I didn't know Bellson was this dynamic. Buddy Rich was the preeminent drummer for big bands, also he would guest on The Johnny Carson Show, performing with the band.
Conversely, Louis Bellson didn't get the publicity Rich received, however I can hear other drummer's he has influenced, one is Billy Cobham.
This video is outstanding, Bellson showcased his chops, for anyone who doubted or discounted him, he laid all questions to rest.
