    That was an outstanding walk around and feature description. I’m not in your area but I just bought the JD Z345R today at my local dealer. I’ll be using this as a resource when it gets delivered next week. John Deere seriously needs to hire you to do this for their whole line. A link to this should be in the delivery packet to all new Z345 owners. Thank you.

    Seriously one of the BEST RUclips instruction videos I've seen... John Deere should have you guys do corporate videos. Very clear, well organized & complete while still concise - no rambling, stuttering OR bad music with GREAT tips! Seriously - amazing job on this and your other videos! Better than the instructional video that came with the new mower!

    A very good video. I'm waiting for my local John Deere dealer in Prescott, AZ, to deliver my new Z345R this morning. After watching the video, I think I will be well prepared to operate and maintain the mower. I had watched it before and it helped me to make up my mind to buy the mower. I watched it again this morning so all the info will be fresh in my mind.

      They should be able to tell you where it is. There has been a huge shortage on mowers because of Covid and delivery dates seem to be getting pushed back and pushed back. Maybe that’s the case but they should at least give you a solid answer.

    My dad has this exact mower. Mowing the lawn is my chore but I gotta say that mower is definitely good for mowing an acre of land and it leaves a good cut on the grass. I would definitely recommend it. This mower makes mowing the lawn fun for me
    Edit: I didn't know most of those features served a purpose I thought it was for marketing design purposes

    Thanks for replying about the foot deck lift pedal I ordered one for the 345M. Now that I have it at the farm for a couple days I'm kind of regretting not getting a 46 or 48" deck! Reason I'd prefer that to the 42" is when you get near objects (trees, fence posts etc) the bigger deck would be your guide and you'd either brush or nudge the movement around it whereas on the 42" the deck is so close under the machine that the rear tire kind of hits and funky things happen now when I edge etc LOL...I was used to a 48" deck on my previous rider and there's tight spots I wanted to get into with a 42" and that's the reason I bought this! Regardless coming from a traditional rider to this is way different and I immediately took to this! The ride albeit not luxury smooth cause any normal yard-farm isn't baby butt smooth, but the ride is definitely improved and I can whisk around plus the seat and position I'm in is totally comfortable!

      @@WesternEquipment Update, now that I've had more time on it I actually have it mastered to get really close to objects and under things...The cut is super clean and the ride is comfortable and having the 42" is now a savior to get through the obstacles but it's also doing my farm in less time because I can zip around now!

    Are you not gonna mention it doesn't have a gas empty gage???? I owned one of these, it has a faded light that suggest empty, with dust and dirt flying you have no idea whether it's close to empty or empty. When it runs out you'll know. Gotta love it, 3500.00 dollar mower with no gas gage! Pitiful!

    I bought the Z540m, 48” standard deck, & mowed 2 acres of field/grass/weeds, 6’ tall red stalked weeds, wet thick grass, and bogged the mower to a stop, killed the engine. Couldn’t process that much material, with that deck, and standard JD blades. Very heavy machine to push by hand. I found some Kavli blades, from Australia, and I’ve never been bogged down again. When I mowed along side the adjoining corn field, it cut the grass, corn stalks, and ears, after harvesting for the season. Hardly any effort to the machine, mowing 6-7 mph. Hardly any wear to my blades, at the end of season maintenance! I would say these Kavli blades doubled my mowers abilities, saved gas & wear on my belts, and my time. I would use these blades on any of my, or your mowers, to get top performance out of our mowers! Love to see you compare the acre timing with these blades. I think you would be surprised at the time, and finished quality! On Utube, John Kavli site, and Something 2look at, site. The make a great mower, better!

Loved both machines, couldn’t afford the bigger machine, because I was mowing my daughters property, for free, and then will use it in town. Needed easy trailer loading, and small enough too go through my shed doors. My Dealer is fantastic, as is my machine. Thanks, you work for a great organization, enjoy!

    Just got my new Z345R yesterday. The owners manual shows sealed ball bearings for the front casters. Not plastic bushings. I am also 5'10 270 and have had to reverse the levers to gain clearance for my big gut. I wish there was just an inch or two more adjustment in the levers. Now I wish I had a bigger yard. LOL

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  4 года назад

      Yes, your front caster wheels have sealed bearings but where the fork meets the frame has just plastic bushings. I am about your size and weight and have the same issue in some of these smaller mowers. Is your seat adjusted all the way back to make sure and give you the most room?

    9:47 Wash-out port. On my Z525E 54" deck I have found that the wash-out feature works best with the deck at the lowest position. Also, to run the RPM on low for a few minutes then on high for a minute then back to low. Repeat. Keep watching the water for when it starts to run clear. I seem to get "better" results that way.
    Of course, the general consensus is that the wash-out port is a gimmick anyway, so take my comment FWIW.

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  2 года назад

      Probably the best thing to do here would be to buy a small electric pump to suck out the debris. Leaving enough gas in the mower that the debris is hopefully floating in the gas. I would say you could take the whole tank out, but that would take quite a bit of disassembly.

Now I have no apparent power to the switch. No light at the hour meter. Full battery charge. Have I blown the FI fuse? Or should I be looking for a loose wire at the switch. My property has a couple of 30⁰ + hills. Could a zero turn accomplish these sections? If so, would there be a significant difference between the 300 series vs 500 series? Just trying to get and idea of cost vs performance in my unique situation. Seems the 300 is very economical compared to an extra $1200 for next level up Thanks!

    • @WesternEquipment
      @WesternEquipment  3 года назад

      Yes the Z3 would be a much more economical choice. But by going up to the Z5 you are getting a larger wheel base, more stability, a heavier mower which also means more stability, and it also has the ROPS (roll over protection system). With the hills on your property I would definitely suggest investing in the Z5 for the safety aspects, better transaxles, and overall longevity of the mower. All my opinion of course but I think all of these things should be highly considered. Check our video of the updates to 2021 on the Z5 to see some of the things I mentioned. Thanks for watching!

      @@WesternEquipment Thanks for the quick response! So you don't think I would be doing wrong by getting a zero-turn vs a tractor - knowing I have a couple steep areas on my yard? • @WesternEquipment

    I’ve probably watched this video 20 times since buying a Z345R that I’m waiting on to be delivered! I’m shocked at how much lighter the Z345 is across the class. Great review! I just bought a 2019 Toro Timecutter MX4200, which is the previous design from Toro at a dealership for $400 off list price due to the fact that it was old (but new) from dealer stock. Pretty much apples to apples up the scale from the base model with respect to price with the JD reviewed here but is no longer a valid comparison if one is shopping new, because the Toro Timecutter MX models are history. Nowadays, one would have to compare a 2020 JD Z345R with 2020 Toro Timecutter model #75744 or #75745 with the MyRide system. I don't know if there are any changes to the Z-trak, but a whole lot of changes have come to the entire Toro Timecutter lineup.
    When the mower I got first came out for 2019 MY, it was listed at $3,099. The newly-designed 75744 is also listed at $3,099 but can be had currently for $2,899. I got the old model for $2,700, but I bought from a dealership, assembled, gassed and oiled up, checked out, new Interstate battery, delivered, and ready to go. For 2020, the entire Timecutter lineup has a new look and a few more, but not so important features except for one...It now has dampened pumps for a smoother transmission, and I wish that I had opted for a Timecutter model 75744 (same features but newer design) due to those dampened pumps and 200 more bucks. Also looks far better and better traction rear tires.
    Toro sort of goes a different direction with the higher-level feature models than JD, which overall, I think is a much better value. They do not offer the foot pedal standard for any of the 42" models but can be added for a premium; no big deal; but does allow a quicker way to lift the deck which is sometimes needed, but a 42" deck is not heavy. Also true for the platform matt; that's an add-on for Timecutter. What Toro does offer at this level even in 2020 is a 10 gauge fabricated steel deck; a 22.5 hp Toro commercial V-twin engine with an unlimited hour 3 year warranty for residential customers (3 years, limited hours for commercial users); three years on the whole machine and the same center step through area for easier access, which my 2019 does not have. Toro has the same oil change set up but all on the same side as the oil filter. The one thing I much prefer about the JD model is the deck height setting system with the pin. On my mower, I have to count and find the 3" spot every time I lift and reset the deck height. I hate that. I really like the pin system on the JD. I also like the easy access to that flimsy stamped deck. But other than that, Timeuctter has this machine beat to death for the money; especially for 2020.

      I do wish Toro offered the flip up access panel to the deck pulleys like JD, and a foot pedal, and the 1/4" cut increments.
