Your Eden rise is so beautiful and healthy. It’s the best I’ve seen, which isn’t many. You have provided so much good information to the point where I’m going to take my gifted rose 🥀 plant out of the ground and plant it in a container. The open bottom sounds like a great idea for it. I didn’t have a complete idea when I put it in the ground, but as time has passed, everything is more clear of how I want it done. I received my long stemmed canes at an unexpected time, but I’m thankful to have it. I’m glad I came across your video, just in time before the roots become deeply embedded into the ground.
Thank you for this video, your Eden Rose is beautiful. I really appreciate you sharing your experience with clay soil and how the rose roots grow. I have the same problem with clay soil. Bought some roses two years ago and planted them and noticed they would bloom real nice, then die, bloom real nice again and die off. I couldn't understand what was going on (knew something isn't quite right) figured it had to be the area they were in. I pulled them up. I'm slowly learning that roses will have to be in soil that can breathe and is well drained, my front yard isn't that way. So placing them in a box or in a large plant bowl will be efficient and productive. I have hydrangeas planted in that area which seems to be doing fine for now and I put them in a good soil, such as, cow manuever, worm composites and they seem to like it. The soil is too heavy, kind of smothers the plants. I'm going to buy some Eden roses and learning about how to care for them is really nice. I appreciate this video and your helpful with your teachings!
I was wondering why you have so much in pots. Thx for the explanation. I spent a few years amending my soil before starting my garden, but I too, have much clay. Some of the Austin roses thrive and others not so much. Just planted two eden (they're tiny) and can't wait for them to start climbing. Such pretty blooms. Loving your videos!
Hello fellow rosarian! Thank you for sharing your experience in growing this rose. Even though we are in different gardening zones, it is very helpful to hear your observations. In my zone 6b, I found the start similar: a little slow the first few years. As it matured, it became vigorous and the flower display is more gorgeous with each new year. Initially, I was disappointed that it didn't have fragrance, but I have found that it improved with maturity. It has a light, pleasant fragrance. In my zone, I have not found it to be continuous blooming as described by some websites. I am growing it as a pillar and only keep 5-7 main canes, depending on how winter affects the plant. Do you have any thoughts on the strategy for growing as a pillar? Are you planning to keep yours as tall shrubs shown on video? Thanks again for your post.
Yes, I agree with you, the blooms started to have a light scent to it. Mine bloomed 3 times this year with the most blooms on the first flush in May, July and very few here and there in November. Since this video, I have trained it to fan out a little bit so hopefully it will give out more lateral canes next season. I would imagine it’s very difficult to train on a pillar since the canes are so thick and hard.
Thank you for sharing all that information. My Eden rose is almost 12 months old. I haven't seen 1 bloom yet from any of my eden plants. when did you see your first bloom? They say to have patience but mine is running thin!😅 I will try the chicken manure and alphalpa meal. Ty!! I
Beautiful roses! I found your channel and it has good content. Can you please tell me the LxWxH of the rose box? Also, did you line the insides with something? Thank you in advance!
This is a bottomless planter and the size is 21”x21”x14 and I lined it with heavy duty weed barrier landscape fabric in hop to keep the planter lasts a longer. I just stapled it from the inside.
Thanks! Yes, I deadhead the spent blooms down to the next nose. No pruning at all, but I’ll probably clean it up with a light prune soon and hopefully it will send out more basal shoots
Beautiful ! I was deciding between Gertrude jelkyl or eden . What do you suggest ? I am looking for the one which blooms more ? How are the blooms does it bloom spring to fall ?
Also till which month do you fertilize . Is it ok fetilize in august . Not sure when they slow down . Sorry if the question is silly but I am totally new to growing roses . So not sure till when they bloom in 9b
So sorry for relying late! It’s really depends on what your preference is. Gertrude is always the first one to bloom in my garden and the fragrance alone is worth growing it. Both Eden and Gertrude repeat blooming about the same 2-3 times/season and the first flush always sent out lots of blooms for both plants. Eden however only give a very light scent as it matures more and the blooms last a long time vs. Gertrude has very strong fragrance but the blooms last about 4-5 days. I fertilize after each flush and will stop fertilizing my roses at the end of September my 9b zone

Eden is my favorite I have a few planted last year but it’s nothing like yours.☹️ Thanks for the info.
Thank you for commenting! Eden likes to be in full sun.
Lovely 🩷
Where did you brought them
Looks beautiful! Hope to get one someday! ❤️. What fertilizer do you give? How is the scent?
No scent and I usually feed my roses with chicken manure, alfalfa meal, rose-tone and fish fertilizer
How many hours of sun does it have during the day?😍
About 5-6 hours
Gorgeous!!! You had mentioned you didn't prune back . Did you deadhead the spent blooms?
Thanks! Yes, I deadhead the spent blooms down to the next nose. No pruning at all, but I’ll probably clean it up with a light prune soon and hopefully it will send out more basal shoots
Gorgeous!!!!! I would buy or trade if you have any cutting😁. I’m in California

What's it's id name?
Eden climbing rose
what are dimensions of planter box
Thank you for visiting. It’s 21”x21”x18 and I dug a hole about 6” deep below the planter before I transplanted the rose into it
The rose is beautiful, but you’ll never get it out of that container if you need to move it.
It’s there to stay and it’s in a bottomless planter so I’m not planning to remove it bc the roots are growing into the ground
Seems being by your door and window that it's going to outgrow that spot.
Beautiful
Thank you!
