You’re not wrong about the fashion, several fashion RUclipsrs reviewed Emily in Paris’ fashion and costuming and they were confused and hated it as well. Her fashion sense didn’t make sense with her backstory and hated it. Honestly, just a series around Mindy and Camille would be great. Also, Alfie is so much better than Gabriel as a love interest.
I like Sylvie and Mindy, but the thing is, Emily is supposed to represent a different perspective than either of those two. Someone who is new to a country with good intentions, but makes mistakes while trying to adapt to a new culture. It's the concept of a 'foil'. And older and younger French characters, with two new American and Chinese characters (Emily and Mindy). Like it or not, but that gives more people who watch a personality or awkward adaptation moments they can identify with.
I watched Ninja's commentary on this. The show didn't learn a damn thing, they stopped attacking the french and Asians, but they went after another Eastern European country for "comedy". Now the Ukrainian government is after Emily in Paris. I think Ninja a little bias about Lilly Collins accountability for this offensive shit. She's a producer and she's very aware of the xenophobic and racist appalling behavior. I hold Lilly Collins very accountable. And that's disgusting how the show jokes way too much about a 29 year old Emily sleeping with an underage child. If Emily was a 29 year old man named, Emile, and slept with a 15 year old girl people would lose their shit(Hypocrisy). Emily's clothes are garbage, just say it don't be nice about it.
There are three words as to why this shows "comedy" doesn't work. Too mean spirited. Also I don't think producers have as much power as you think. Sure she managed make some changes and took the criticism well (certainly than how Seth Rogen responded to the criticism of Santa Inc.) But I 100% blame the writers because they write this shit. Not all stereotypes aren't the problem, its the borderline American imperialism and mean-spirited stereotypes that make the show unpleasant. Also shitty characters.
I have read people in Reddit defending the series because "It's a TV show. It doesn't have to be realistic!" 🙄 I wonder where those people are from, because as an European I'm tired of USA mainstream cinema clichés and blatant xenophobia and "Emily in Paris" is the epitome of that. I think everyone can bear artistic licenses like Paris being an idealised version of the reality or the main character getting a job unrealistically. But purposely excluding the cultural diversity of Paris, making xenophobic/racist jokes, and using foreign characters to perpetuate prejudices is despicable. Not to mention the way the show jokes about having sex with a minor 🤮
I love how people defend the rape in Outlander and Game of Thrones for being "historically accurate" even with time travel and dragons (respectively), but here they're saying that TV shows don't have to be realistic. Their defense really just tells me: I'm a crappy person, and I feel attacked when people point out that a show I like is terrible, but I'm going to defend it instead of realize how problematic it is because that means I'm not validated." It's sick.
I still can’t believe this show got Broadway actress Ashley Park in it. You where in mean girls and about to be in the encore revival of “Into the Woods” as Cinderella.
"what we do in the shadows" is insanely good and it deserves all the awards. I'm still laughing at the jokes and it's been months since I watched the series.
Anything and everything Darin Star does needs to have a racial stereotype. Do you guys not remember that sex in the city movie where they go to Abu Dhabi and it’s basically 2 hours of making fun or Arabs and muslims? Recently, the sex in the city reboot dressed Sarah Jessica Parker in a lehenga (an Indian attire) and kept calling it a saree the entire time (another south Asian/Indian/Bangladeshi/Sri lankan attire that absolutely isn’t a lehenga) and now all non Indian folks think a lehenga is a saree. They couldn’t get one Indian person to ask the difference between a lehenga and saree
I'm European. I've been to Paris and France in general, etc. so I thought I'd put my 2 cents in here. - This show is supposedly all about Paris but it's so heavily glamorized and Americanized that the shows countless inaccuracies are laughable. - The stereotyping in this show is UNREAL. French people don't constantly think about sex or want to sleep with everyone nor does everyone cheat on their partners, not everyone is rude, they don't come into the office at 12pm, I could go on. - Every. Single. Man. she meets throws himself at Emily. Not only is that highly unlikely, but it also implies that French men only think about sex and that they only see women as a means to experience pleasure or whatnot. This show honestly pisses me off so much.
At the very least, it would be hilarious if Lily Collins did a cameo in You S4. Like, he walks past her making a social media post about croissants and he makes one of those disgusted internal remarks. It would be hilarious.
I hate Emily in Paris for everything that you said PLUS the fact that I actually live in the Quartier Latin (where most of the series was shot). So this summer it was awful because of all the closed streets. (I live 5min away from "Emily's apartment" And have to go past it to go to work...)
This show feels like something that would have been made 20-30 years ago. How they portrai different ethnicities is just wrong. So sad to see how much potential they had in improving their message and how they depict people - Petra as an Urkranian woman from an eastern European culture is just wrong. But also how they depicted Germans as people who do have no humor whatsoever is very sterotypical - it was very brief - but still offensive I´d imagine. And also how Emily´s thin body was glorified within, as it can be so triggering to people that suffer from an ED. Anyone feels the same?
I don’t think Emily’s body was glorified and for you to jump to that conclusion is pretty harmful to lily collins herself, as she’s struggled with an ED growing up and has since then recovered from it. It’s not her responsibility to make sure no one else gets ‘triggered’ from her body
It was made by Darren Star,. He’s the guy who made Sex and the City, so I’m guessing he’s just stuck in the late 90s/early 2000s in terms of his sense of humor. However, he also made the revival, which from what I heard tried too hard to be progressive, so maybe it’s on the writers for the stereotype-based humor
I agree with everything except for the body comment. People don't promote their body type by just existing. But everything else is on point. This show is awful.
Can't believe just seeing "Emily in Paris" and "You" together in the thumbnail makes my stomach feels funny lol. Seeing people beating up these two shows has become my (not so) guilty pleasure at this point.
I'm actually glad the Ukrainian minister spoke up because just once I would like to see an Eastern European character in Western media that isn't just some petty criminal gag.
I think we're giving Emily wayyyy to much credit here. She's so shallow even Joe would have a hard time projecting his fantasies on her. From afar? Sure. But she'd die two sentences in
Emily in Paris is about a young, pampered, rich girl getting paid obscene amounts of money to live in Paris and play a young, pampered, rich girl. Watching videos like this is as close as I will ever get to watching it. Thanks but no thanks Netflix.
I love the sudden light change when you go into the dark crossover part And I would've actually watched this version of story. This is honestly genious, to have 2 different shows have the same story, but shown from a different point of view and so the whole tone of each show is drastically different
I'm forever going to be bitter that this got a second season and Julie and the Phantoms did not, but watching this video I had an idea of how it can be fixed; Make Ashley Park the star, make her the older version of London Tipton from Suite Life of Zack and Cody. Call it London in Paris.
I still chalk the "popularity" of the show to how it debuted in early days of pandemic so folks wanted an escape to a vibrant, people-filled Paris and willing to ignore how awful it is.
Emily totally only tried to get Camille and Gabriel together so she could feel better about her sleeping with him, it was so selfish I didn't get an inch of her wanting to do right for anyone else but hoping that doing that would solve all her problems!

It would be amazing if the first 2/3rds of the show was filmed from Emily’s angle, and in the last 1/3 we see everything that’s been happening behind the scenes. Where our favorite sociopath is isolating her and killing off those Emily is getting close to
Fashion RUclips can confirm that Emily’s outfits are not fashionable. They note that her wearing so many designers doesn’t even make sense because of her pay grade. Mina Le and Modern Gurlz go over this well if anyone is interested in why fashion RUclips wasn’t crazy about the show.

I watched the first season out of curiosity and the second season just to understand what you and Friendly Space Ninja talk about in your videos. As a French, it's pretty often that content including French people/culture produced from the US is a bit insulting. But this thing with the "Champère" was straight up offensive. I grew up really close to the Champagne région, my parents taught me the value of good Champagne and this is so... I just don't have enough words in the three and a half languages I speak to express how mad it made me. But the episode with the Ukrainian woman was so. much. worse. I felt really sad for all the Ukrainians watching this show...
@@n.m.8728 i know it's been three months but the "champere" was supposed to be a drink to spray on someone, like they do after some big sports victories, they open a bottle of good champagne and spray it all around andi think the idea was that they'd sell both champagne - for drinking, and champere - for spraying
Omg. For someone that has watched sex and the city, this is just Big and Carrie in Paris without the extra friends. This entire plotline has been done.

"How could you make a show about having this romanticized Parisian experience if she's just happy with one dude and there's no drama surrounding it?" May I present to you, Nodame Cantabile.
I dont think she plays matchmaker because she felt guilty, I think that she wants to feel superior to Camille by having a romance with the dude she likes. If Camille stops having feelings for whats-his-name-again, there's no reason for Emily to be with him. Here's my unpopular opinion
Toward the end there, Amanda started doing her crazy eye thing a lot. I think she's snapped and it might be brilliant. Also, as a fan of "You" I would watch the hell out of that idea. I also miss the way it started out.
Emily in Paris became so known because they put it up as a main show and it did not hold up to that shit. Luc and Mindy are the only good part of this show, and they're barely good. The rest of the show just feels offensive and poorly thought out.
I will weep tears of pure *joy* when I come back to this video in the fall, and see other people commenting *"Anyone else here after watching the 'EMILY IN PARIS' x 'YOU' crossover?????!!!*

@@astrident8055 I know, I was sort of hoping we would see her sell her more expensive items and maybe live off of Paris flea markets, etc.
Cool profile pic! I wish Summer was actually important to the plot...
Camiles brother was 17.. But yeh you are absolutely right
@@shelbymckinney8888 Disagree. There's no such thing as too "mean spirited" if it's self aware and it is written well.
@@lunavioleta001 That true I suppose, but its quite obvious that this show is neither self- aware or written well.
@@madimiss look, a fan of Emily in Paris in the wild. With her super fun take. Now we're the bad people. How original.
I still can’t believe this show got Broadway actress Ashley Park in it. You where in mean girls and about to be in the encore revival of “Into the Woods” as Cinderella.
She is in mean girls? The play? I am confusion. Lol.
Me neither, she's way too good for this show, yet at least they have her perform some songs every now and then!
At least Renee from Mean Girls got “Sex Lives of College Girls”
it's like how darren star got sutton foster for that garbage show younger. i noticed broadway actors tend to star in a lot of trash television
Joe would kill Emily in the first episode. She’s the embodiment of everything he hates.
Even worse than Peach.
idk she seems like his type. white, middle class, entitled. i mean he'd totally kill her of course bc mommy issues but he'd be into her first
I have a suspicious this is a reason Amanda wants joe to meet Emily. Technically kill to birds with one stone
The fact this got a second season makes me question humanity
It’s gotten renewed for another 2 more seasons lmao, you should definitely be questioning humanity.
It'll have 4!
@@emilywoods6191 now I know, humanity is even more foolish than I thought
people tend to hate-watch shows a lot, ig that contributes a lot to its popularity so they'll keep milking it.
I wish I could forget that horrible movie.
Mark Kermode's review of that movie was amazing though.
Don't even have to ask an Indian. They could've just googled but to lazy to that.
@@DrGregoryHouseIT dude the Kermode review is more entertaining than the movie 🤣👌
Lehenga doesn't even look like a saree, I swear they're trying to be offensive on purpose...
@@rx500android Maybe that was the joke, Carrie does not know what she is wearing?
"...but it's just a show of Emily being an idiot."
Ah, finally, a show that gets me.
Lmao idk but this got me
Are you in Paris?
I don't even know you, but I'm sure a show with you as a protagonist in Paris would be better than this 😂
At the very least, it would be hilarious if Lily Collins did a cameo in You S4.
Oh no. That is bad.
Anyone feels the same?
you phrased this so well I completely agree
@@solace8355 yes. I fell like everything (or a lot) that didn't age well from "sex and the city" is on this show.
Joe and Emily best match ngl I would totally read a crossover fanfic of them
I've been trying to find ao3 fics of this to no avail.
@@shoujokadyan5502 Maybe you could write that crossover and I could write one too 😂 Joe x Emily
Never seen anyone beat up "You" though? Everyone on RUclips at least seems to like it
I'm actually glad the Ukrainian minister spoke up because just once I would like to see an Eastern European character in Western media that isn't just some petty criminal gag.
That color change at 22:20 with the red lights was awesome, and all the editing of the last 5 mins was 👌
I think we're giving Emily wayyyy to much credit here.
I love the sudden light change when you go into the dark crossover part
And I would've actually watched this version of story.
16:20 Knowing Amanda has watched a simple favour makes me want a full video of her thoughts on the movie cause it would be so chaotic
oh absolutely, that would be a fun episode!
A simple favour is base gay culture, I claim it
@@eliesundesastre9473 honestly the movie was too wild to go this unnoticed by film critics
Emily totally only tried to get Camille and Gabriel together so she could feel better about her sleeping with him, it was so selfish I didn't get an inch of her wanting to do right for anyone else but hoping that doing that would solve all her problems!
Amanda we are all looking for the OC retrospective we know you have in you!
There is actually town in Illinois named Paris... sooo, you never know?
I have never seen this show, and probably won't waste my time with it, thanks to your reviews!
I thought Paris - the american one - was in Texas, like the title of that movie.
@@DrGregoryHouseIT there's a few of cities called Paris in America. There's even one in the state I live in, California, just as there is in Illinois, Texas, Arkansas, Idaho, Kentucky, Maine, etc.
As a student studying fashion, you were in the right for criticizing Emily’s outfit.
IDK.
CAN Emily in Paris be fixed? Maybe.
Would I watch it? Still no.
The show being so boring and oblivious makes the award nominations sting that much more
Yes, saw on instragram that somebody was like "let's combine Emily in Paris and you" I would totally watch it. This would be so damn great😍😂 people obviously want it.
She may have given them an idea 💡 🤣
And they did do just that with their Marvel shows before 😆 so I guess it's not entirely impossible
They don’t have that much talent in writing a good plot 😹 Even a fanfic writer from Russian province would create smth worthy and intriguing, but not those who wrote Emily in Paris.
As someone who has a degree in fashion design, I hated all but one of Emily's outfits 🤣 and even that one was ruined once I saw the shoes they paired with it 🙈
It would be amazing if the first 2/3rds of the show was filmed from Emily’s angle, and in the last 1/3 we see everything that’s been happening behind the scenes. Where our favorite sociopath is isolating her and killing off those Emily is getting close to
Fashion RUclips can confirm that Emily’s outfits are not fashionable. They note that her wearing so many designers doesn’t even make sense because of her pay grade. Mina Le and Modern Gurlz go over this well if anyone is interested in why fashion RUclips wasn’t crazy about the show.
definitely people should support the "You In Paris" season, with you, Amanda, as writer and producer, I guess we would all watch it.
I would actually watch those shows if they mixed them like that. That sounds so much better than what they have going now.
It’s like they are trying win a bet about how many different cultures and people that they can appropriate.
ive never wanted to watch a show more than i need to watch that you/emily in paris crossover. if someone writes that fanfiction please send it to me.
My friend told me yesterday that she started watching a certain TV series...guess which one it was!
I was like "Are you for real? No one likes this show!?!"
I have absolutely no idea how she managed to come across THIS....btw just a couple of hours ago I rewatched your 1st video on 'Emily in Paris' xD what a coincidence!
Imagine the show runners start trolling viewers and ask penn bagdley you shoot a few background scenes where we see him at the restaurant, in the French class at the bakery by the workplace lol that would be hilarious!
I hate myself for watching this entire season in a night. ...but I gotta see Joe talking about her in you season 4
"I'm not shit posting...this is amazing." So true.
I never seen the show, I just watch the reviews because they seem more fun that the show, BUT if they did a crossover between Emily in Paris and You I would definitely watch that!!! Seriously, what you said sounds super fun.
But the episode with the Ukrainian woman was so. much. worse. I felt really sad for all the Ukrainians watching this show...
wait is it supposed to be actual champagne in the show. i havent watched it. i assumed it was supposed to be some kind of perfume 😱😱😱
@@n.m.8728 i know it's been three months but the "champere" was supposed to be a drink to spray on someone, like they do after some big sports victories, they open a bottle of good champagne and spray it all around andi think the idea was that they'd sell both champagne - for drinking, and champere - for spraying
*Amanda voice* I can fix her-
Also I just noticed you hit 500k, congratulations!!! I've been here since under 200 B)
Omg. For someone that has watched sex and the city, this is just Big and Carrie in Paris without the extra friends. This entire plotline has been done.
I don't care about Emily in Paris. Haven't seen it. Never will. So this isn't relevant to this video in particular. I just wanted to throw out there that after my post-Arcane high I watched probably a dozen videos about it, and you are one of only two creators who I decided to keep watching. You have so much personality and energy in your videos that I couldn't avoid subscribing and then watching most of your back-catalogue regardless of topic. So yeah. I'll be supporting your patreon as well here shortly.
I need the fanfiction of Joe and Emily. Get on it Wattpad!
Glad to see you still making content amidst the hellscape that being a social media figure tends to be. Happy new year!
I love how cheating is okay in EiP but it's suddenly not when the show tries to get brownie points with the audience
Is cheating okay in France or not show, decide already!
That was the smoothest transition into an ad I’ve ever seen😂
I can't get over how beautiful you make my name sound. I feel like I've been saying it wrong my whole life lol.
That OC-sponsor transition had me thinking I was watching Dylan is in Trouble for a hot moment there
"How could you make a show about having this romanticized Parisian experience if she's just happy with one dude and there's no drama surrounding it?"
May I present to you, Nodame Cantabile.
I dont think she plays matchmaker because she felt guilty, I think that she wants to feel superior to Camille by having a romance with the dude she likes. If Camille stops having feelings for whats-his-name-again, there's no reason for Emily to be with him.
Here's my unpopular opinion
The french film that is parodied in the letter scene is Jules and Jim. It's a fantastic French new wave film.
Toward the end there, Amanda started doing her crazy eye thing a lot. I think she's snapped and it might be brilliant.
Also, as a fan of "You" I would watch the hell out of that idea. I also miss the way it started out.
The Emily in Paris and You season 4 mixing together is the best idea I heard about for months!!! Will be so hilarious to watch:P
the way you imitated her saying mathieu like a sneeze absolutely killed me
Emily in Paris became so known because they put it up as a main show and it did not hold up to that shit. Luc and Mindy are the only good part of this show, and they're barely good. The rest of the show just feels offensive and poorly thought out.
This video reminded me that back in 2003 I took French at community college and Penn Badgley was in my class.
Yup, the podcast's already out by the time this was posted. The first episode was great, can't wait for the next one!
I haven't even watched half of the stuff you talk about I just love your vibe
I am here for a crossover between two of the worst Netflix shows, which I've never actually seen, only heard about from Amanda the Jedi videos.
okay but like that Emily in Paris and You crossover sounds so good
I will weep tears of pure *joy* when I come back to this video in the fall, and see other people commenting
*"Anyone else here after watching the 'EMILY IN PARIS' x 'YOU' crossover?????!!!*
You + Emily in Paris would be so fun. Its a brilliant idea, and given that Riverdale went full multi-verse, I don't see why these two shows couldn't collide?!

The fact this show got all those nominations and awards screams nepotism and corruption 👀👀
I saw other YTers came out with a review of the second season. Which I didn’t watch and just got excited for your review!
As if I needed any more convincing that awards are bought, nominating this show for best of anything is bull. Except for supporting actress, I agree that Mindy was the best character and I would watch her show happily.
CONGRATS ON 500K!!! You deserve so many more subscribers but I’m so so sooo happy to see your success 💞

that edit of emily's head at 23:01 absolutely took me out
Honestly, I decided long ago to not watch the 3rd season of You or any of Emily in Paris but if there were a crossover I would absolutely watch both!
Just wanted to say it's really cool to see somebody from my hometown as successful on here as you are. You have more subs than the population here haha
OMG, I literally had the same thought, that Netflix should make a crossover and have Joe date Emily. That would be amazing and Emily in Paris would be so much better with her going missing at "Nick's" hand xD.
YAY! Amanda is half a mil strong here on YT. What a journey from 50k at the start of 2020 to 500k by the start of 2022. Literally 10x subs
One of the reasons why Jane Austen's books are so widely renowned as romance despite have none of the 'good stuff' of is restraint. I think Emily in Paris could build a lot of tension that way and be more interesting if everyone didn't go all for it.
It's not just a Christmas jumper. It's a "Mooby's Christmas" Jumper
Acceptable all year round...and i really want one
great video as always Amanda and happy new year
