  • The brand new Fujifilm 56mm R WR F1.2 Mark II is finally here! Announced in the last Fujifilm X-Summit in New York City together with the 40MP X-H2 camera, I can now present the lens to you in this video...
    I had the chance to play with it ahead of launch. So I took it to the streets of London day and night to put it to the test. And I must say I am impressed with the improvement on this new 56mm lens. It feels faster and accurate... The issues I had were my own fault as I was forcing myself to shoot at F/1.2 and really test the lens so I often missed for shortage of depth of field, lol.
    But the lens itself excels in every aspect and now has Weather Resistance so it becomes a perfect companion in the streets, not just in studio.
    Sad to have to send this Fujifilm 56mm F1.2 Mark II back to Fuji, but I will buy and then make another comprehensive video for sure. I also need to show you a bit of my studio as I haven't done it yet and that would be the perfect chance. So subscribe and stay tuned!
    Might buy it on Amazon amzn.to/3Tof8q6, we'll see.
    Thanks for the appreciation on my reviews, it means a lot and it pushes me to give you more.
    Cheers.

    I love this style of review. Rather than focussing on the dry statistics, you've actually gone into how to make use of the lens to get the best out of it, and described how it fits into your shooting style! The lens does produce some stunning images, and even though you say it's not at max sharpness wide open, it certainly doesn't look soft. I suspect it wouldn't fit with my style of shooting much at all, but this is the first very fast prime I've ever seen which looks like it could be properly usable day to day. Excellent review, thank you!

      Thanks a lot mate. This 56mm is a beautiful lens, no doubt about it, and a much needed improvement on the previous version that will please everybody. I personally lean more towards the 33mm 1.4 which is now on my camera 99% of the time, but that's as versatile and full of character.
      And let me tell you that I'm extremely grateful for your appreciation on the video style. I'm trying to improve with every video and the feedback from you and other watchers is always very valuable to me! Thank you very much 🙏🏻

    How is the autofocus? It doesn’t have linear motor. The old 56mm struggles with AF

      @fabienb  Год назад +2

      Yeah it doesn't have linear motor and I was surprised when I received it. I used the old 56mm for some portraits you see in the video (not the APD version) and my personal feeling is that this new one is much faster. There were a few situations in the street where this new 56mm still struggled and it was when the subject was already close, almost at the limit of the minimum focal distance of 0.5m: it started hunting and I missed the shots. But the lens I had was a pre-production unit so it's hard to tell if this can happen on the retail version as well. Overall it felt well improved but certainly better with subjects 1m away (again, pre-production unit). Cheers

      @@fabienb ok good to know. I intend to use it for portraits and weddings. So most likely I won’t be that close to the minimum focusing distance

      You'll be totally fine then :) I only had this a few days and couldn't plan any shooting with models in the studio but I may do the old/new comparison focusing on portraits so let's see.
      Thanks for your comment!

    This vs the XF 50 f1? Which has the better AF?

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  Год назад +1

      I haven't had the chance to use the 50mm F/1 so far, so I'm afraid I don't know the answer just yet. But I'm planning to rent it for a project so I'll get back to your question in a future video

    what camera were you using to shoot these on the new lense

      Hi. I use the X-T4. Which one do you have?

    • @boss_hoggbullys
      @boss_hoggbullys Год назад +1

      Xt3

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  Год назад +1

      That's good. The sensor on the X-T3 is as responsive as the X-T4 and much better than the previous models so you should see good results with the new AF on this 56 👍

      ok sorry, i didn't see it on my phone but i can see that you put the data in the bottom left when watching it on my mac

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  Год назад +1

      Hey @boosiefoobar, yes there is actually data available for every image. But your comment raised an important question about the way I add the info so I went to check myself on the phone...
      I could see there was something but the info is maybe too small and is hidden by subtitles when those are activated. So I will look into how to make these better in the next videos. Thanks a lot for letting me figure out this 👍

    Very disappointing, that it doesn't have high end AF. Any plans to order it cancelled.

      Sorry to hear that. The lens is still very good, but I understand your disappointment, particularly if you were thinking to upgrade.

      It still has better AF than the old one.

    • @fabienb
      @fabienb  Год назад

      Yes Niko, it is improved and personally I still believe it is a lens to absolutely have in your arsenal if you fancy shooting at this focal length.
      I can understand the concerns of those who haven't tried the new version yet because on paper the changes may not be enough. But once you try the lens it becomes obvious that the AF is better :)
