My 1980 RD400F last of the air cooled RD's fully restored engine has had a full crank rebuild, rebore new pistons rings seals etc ready to run in :-) .
Awesome looking bike! You guys overseas always got those cool looking stripes on the tank and in America we get plain ! We quit getting the RD in 79 very sweet looking bike you have there they are the best! I have got RD'S from 74 -79 only missing the 78 also, 85 RZ 500 love the two stroke Yamaha's!!

Hey dude sweet looking bike I got a 79 Daytona , I thought the 1980 RD400 looked almost like the Daytona but didn't have the Daytona name on it and they did away with the points . Yours looks like a 78 RD400 but hey I could wrong.
Sorry bud but you are wrong it is a 1980 RD400 F , admittedly in the video it has the wrong 400 graphics on the side panels, they were soon replaced with the correct ones without the black infill in the zeros.
It has an 1978 E model fuel tank on it as well. The "F" model was 1979 The "G" model was 1980, and identical to "F" except for paint job. The "F" and "G" models also had a different-looking engine - they had a "ram-air" head. I personally sold all these models and years brand new back in the day.
Hi sorry but you are wrong mate. We never had the Daytona shape over here , the 1980 rd400f had electronic ignition and other cosmetic changes compared to the 78 models.,We then had the rd350lc take over in 1980. I have now fitted allspeed expansion pipes to make it sound better, Thanks.

Had one exactly the same, very sadly missed.
I had exactly the same bike, even down to the colours, back in the mid 1980's. You could get them then for £400. Now they are ten times that.

I had an Yamaha RD400 but I had RD250 side panels on it with my L plate flapping from the rear until I passed my test.
John Anderson. 6 fins on the barrel of the 250 & 7 fins on the barrel of the 400.
this was one easy way to know the capacity.
