I thank you also. The only family I have left is 320 miles (each way) away. At age 69 with two cats, one is diabetic I don't feel up to making the trip especially in late December in the northeast US. In the evening Timmy, Hershey and I watched White Christmas (I have it on disc) and called it a night🎄❄️

My dad had a stroke two years ago on Christmas. During dessert. Luckily, my BIL is a cardiovascular surgeon and recognized within seconds what was happening. But believe it or not, we are all thankful for that day. Had he been alone or sleeping when that stroke happened, he might not have made it.

I'm glad he's ok. Mine had a stroke on Christmas Eve morning in 2008. We spent Christmas visiting him in the hospital while he was sedated. He was released a couple of weeks later and had a heart attack a week after that. Back in the hospital for another couple of weeks. He only lived 8 more years after that, but I'm grateful to have had those 8 more years with him. Unfortunately I was young, dumb, selfish, and had my own issues and wish I could have appreciated him more during that time, but I'm still grateful to have had him around for 8 more years.

    • @mommy2libras
      @mommy2libras 17 дней назад +3

Dude, do you realize how many employees forget to remove those things, especially during holiday shopping season when it's super busy? I bought myself a coat because I didn't have one. The only reason I noticed the security tag was still on there was because my husband & I dropped off the stuff we'd bought there at the car because we were going into the mall & I wanted to wear my new coat, knowing it would be much colder when we left a few hours later. I took all the regular tags off and boom- security tag still on there. Had to bring it right back into the store, wait 20 more minutes in line to get it removed. I've noticed that at least half the time, they'll forget about those tags if you don't remind them when you're checking out. And if youre not used to shopping for stuff that has them or just aren't thinking about it then you won't remember to remind them. I had at least 2 other encounters while shopping this year where I had to remind the cashier to remove it because they'd forgotten. I think a lot of folks don't think about it as much anymore because we're used to shopping online a lot more.

As an adult, things I don't miss during Thanksgiving or Christmas:
❌ Being expected to spend my time, money, or gas on the road traveling for hours and hours for a single day visit
❌ Being ordered around to do chores while others sit around and socialize
❌ Having my privacy invaded with pushy, demanding questions about why I am/am not doing XYZ
❌ Having to smell cooking aromas I find repulsive and sit at the table, averting my eyes from dead animals on platters, while eating next to nothing because I'm a longterm vegetarian but everyone always just "forgets" about that
❌ Being "delegated" to clear off the table after the meal, put the food away, and do all the dishes while everyone sits around and socializes
❌ Not having enough money for a hotel and told to sleep on the floor with a blanket because everyone else is using the beds and couch but "you're young and strong" so it's OK if you're forced to sleep on a hard surface
❌ Trying to extricate yourself as quick as possible the following morning to avoid being the maid service again
After my first 5 years of adulthood, I just started saying NO and stopped going. Never missed it, either.
Instead, I made my own holiday traditions!
✅ Prepare my own favorite vegetarian soup in the crockpot to cook for the day
✅ Go hiking and birding the entire day at my favorite state park
✅ Eat my finished soup for dinner with my pet birds, in peace
✅ Going out for coffee/tea with my best friend on Christmas eve and having it at our homes with others friends on Christmas
    Much better!
Best wishes to all here for better day ahead - we all deserve that ❤

That first bunch is, at best, thoughtless, if not deliberately mean. You're better off without them. PS: I always make a note if my guests have food allergies or preferences, and try to make a main dish that'd suit them. It's not that difficult!

    • @EyeSeeThruYou
      @EyeSeeThruYou 10 дней назад +1

@@pncwho Yup, I know the "pitfall foods and drinks" in terms of my friend circle.
One can't eat bell peppers, no matter how they are served. She gets terrible heartburn.
I and another friend are both lactose intolerant because we stopped eating dairy products (if you had the enzyme and stop consuming dairy, you lose the enzyme and it doesn't come back).
Others are diabetes-aware so I pick things that are very low or no sugar to serve.
To me, that's part of friendship - you know them so well, you know exactly what they can and can't eat. 🥰

Good dishes, like Spode, need to be hand washed. No one wants to do that, including me (78F). My children and their spouses didn’t want the china we carefully shipped from Ireland to Illinois in the 1970s. I sold it and was glad of the money. I plan to have the sterling silver tableware melted down. I’ll enjoy that money too!

On December 19th my beloved and I were in a car accident (the person ran us off the road because he had poached a deer and was driving like hell so he wouldn't get caught), resulting with us rolling and flipping her SUV into a cornfield. I ended up paralyzed from the waist down. Then on the 20th she was taken off of life support...

Too many of these seem fake or the result of not raising children with respect.

So many questions! I would like to know what kind of parent blames their children for pneumonia? It's probably someone who always blames others for stuff. Also, the rule for fresh meat (re:filets) is 3 days in the fridge and they have to be cooked within that 72 hours window), begging the question: how long were the steaks sitting in the fridge? So many security tags left on stuff, too. Merry Christmas, kids!

Mom of the 16yr old who cooked. You have the emotional maturity of a toddler. Because YOU didn't like your Christmas gift you decided to ruin Christmas for your kids. SHAME ON YOU! I bet you'll wonder why they don't talk to you anymore when they're out of the house.

I've got a great one! 2 days before Christmas I was cutting a sweet potato and the knife slipped cutting the outer aspect of my left hand creating a huge, deep flap. 8 stitches later I thought at least it isn't my right hand. Cue Christmas Eve dinner, as I was removing a very large, made from scratch, lasagna. The bottom collapsed the pan flipped face down on the oven door and floor, lol. Scooped up what was on the door and called it lasagna casserole😂😂😂

I didn't cut myself but apparently all the cleaning & prep work were so hard on my hands that about 2 days before Christmas, I was in pain and couldn't touch anything because the skin on my thumbs and first 2 fingers of each hand all have multiple splits- like a bunch of quarter & half inch, very deep small cuts on my fingertips. My genius self had decided we were doing a shrimp boil this year. I slept those first 2 nights with my fingers coated in Neosporin & wrapped, trying to get it to heal but no dice. So yesterday I had to rewrap everything because they'd just gotten worse and wear gloves. Luckily I craft with resin & need tight fitting latex or nitrile gloves so I have a whole box of really good ones but when your fingertips are all wrapped up under the latex, it makes handling anything extremely difficult. I couldn't feel anything or hold anything right. Plus I was just sick anyway. So I ended up boiling the shrimp by itself- the easiest part- and the sides were whatever I'd prepared beforehand & the meat & cheese my husband cut up for the day. No one went hungry at least.

When cooking/baking with foil pans & the contents will be heavy...
ALWAYS!!!!!! Use DOUBLE or TRIPLE foil pans!!!!!!
      Example...... lasagna, turkey, roasts ........

@raallen1468 we survived! Just laughed it off as the holiday misadventure, lol. One year our microwave went out the morning of our 30-40 people gathering, that was a quick trip to Walmart where they only had countertop microwaves so I had to cook around a big box! Something every year, makes for laughs.
