The game also got a pretty big update a bit ago that added new areas to the game and completely revamped the first level, I think that's what's going on here.
There's something especially unsettling about a creature you know is watching you but doesn't immediately attack you. Your mind can be the scariest played in horror games...
thats how herobrine was originally supposed to be until the community ruined him. he was supposed to merely lurk in the edges of render distance and then move back into the fog whenever you try to get closer and mess with the world a tiny bit by adding small sand pyramids in water and mining small tunnels in the sides of stone and sometimes stripping the leaves from trees. he was never supposed to chase you down or attack you or grief your builds. He was never supposed to set things on fire or put traps or creepy signs. he was just kinda there watching from a distance and the only other things he did was mess with a few naturally generated things a tiny bit. just enough to creep you out and unsettle you but never enough to make you freak out and run screaming.
I like to believe that the “creatures” you see in the backrooms are just other people trying to find their way out. But, you are too afraid to confront them because of the atmosphere the backrooms brings. The fear of something else keeps you alone.
I'm in the camp that the monsters are the backrooms trying to create people but not understanding how, and that the backrooms itself is the same way that it grasps some concepts of the real world but not how it all fits together.
I like to think the backrooms is in the quantum realm and that every other monster is also another player but that they are diffrent to you due to the warping of the quantum realm.
I've only helped with minor stuff, but the Dev is stoked that people like you are giving this game love. I hope you play his next chapter once it comes out

Idk any of the actual lore behind the back rooms. But I like the think that (in this version at least) there are no monsters. But there is the occasional person that’s been down there for awhile too and they peek around bc they heard you. But they’re equally scared of you as you are them. Like walking through a wooded area at night is terrifying but coming across another person alone in the woods you think they’re a killer they think you’re a killer so you’re both freaking out and panicking but also needing to keep an eye on each other lol
Tbh I much prefer that idea. I enjoy the idea of these "off" places devoid of life only receiving visitors, who would likely be wary of eachother based on the situation. Despite the simplicity of the idea, I much prefer it over these backrooms entity things getting made for "levels".

I love that that the game makes you scare yourself, its like you expect to be scared due to the little shadows and movements that your mind just turns it into like the scariest thing you've even seen. Just the feeling of being on the edge of your seat makes everything so much better especially when it come to things like movies and games it just adds so much more to the game or movie in its self.
Its fascinating to see how a video game becomes very in depth with our minds to the point of scaring us down to the core. Jackceptieye's reaction in 12:49 really comes to show how a game can start to mess with our heads to the point of causing real fear to show within ourselves. I believe he was not the only one who felt fear at the realization that he was no longer alone.
Liminal spaces don’t really mess with my head that much, so I think what really finally drove the “the back rooms drive you insane” concept in for me, was when they give you fake outside for the first time. That’s legitimately fucked up and gave me goosebumps.
But that’s the ploy of the backrooms to lure you further and further, to let your mind think there’s progress, to have you give up on hope only to embrace hope once more until… Nah but In all seriousness going into a room and finding other scratch marks next to yours would be the scariest thing
This is a fantastic interpretation of The Backrooms - it really nails what it's going for. For a more traditional video-gamey Backrooms experience, I suggest Enter The Backrooms, which is actually a game I've been developing for over two years. The final major update is dropping this weekend and I'd be honored if you played the game!! :)
This is 100% the best backroom game out there, it really shows what a backroom is supposed to be, not being chased by monsters but walking through deserted corridors
5:30 making a vertigo shot in a video game?! that’s so damn cool (film school student here lol) this game is BEAUTIFUL. i really want to make backrooms content someday
Please do and film it with an old camera! Maybe VHS, maybe miniDV, whatever comes into your hands! The first-hand oldschool effect is much nicer than anything you can replicate digitally I feel
But that’s where the unsettling horror of the backrooms come from. Being completely alone somewhere so familiar but so foreign is terrifying. It gets you on your toes, makes you insane, it makes you see and hear things that aren’t there.
Kinda sad you didn't get to experience the mall level in the old version, I found that level really interesting because it's something we haven't seen before in the Kane Pixels videos (which this game takes heavy inspiration from).
The lack of ambience (sounds 4:13) is why some people said the minecraft overworld was creepy in early versions (and why things like herobrine were made) you onow that you should be hearing something, anything at all, but all you hear is your own footsteps and eventually, the blood pumping through your ears. Studies conducted on those who went through white room torture showed that after a certain amount of time, the body is so starved of ambience that it no longer tunes out the sound of bodily functions
One of the definitions for the word "Complex" is actually "a related group of repressed or partly repressed emotionally significant ideas which cause psychic conflict leading to abnormal mental states or behavior" so that's cool
Okay, but can we talk about how COOL that IRIS logo animation was?! It was so smooth... Also, if you're enjoying the backrooms games, I highly recommend Anemoiapolis to everyone! It's in beta/demo version at the moment but it's still cool in demo mode.

It is so ironic that Sean doesn't perceive his natural accent as "oozing sex appeal" when the Irish accent is undoubtedly THE sexiest accent in the world!
I had a dream not too long ago that was sort of like the backrooms. Except it was more like time was frozen. I felt no hunger, no exhaustion, no need to expel bodily matter. And it felt like I was trapped there for years. Every now and then I'd come across a small hole in the wall or porthole in the ceiling that would open up to the real world. Just big enough to stick a limb through part way. I've never been more relived to wake up...
im literally so excited for the iris project ngl I cant wait for it to be released - all the horror games sean has been playing I'm so excited for his own video too
wait, has this game been updated? i had a very different experience with this, some of these rooms i didn't even see. anyway, I clicked on this SO fast because I love this kind of content from you!
I've always wondered why in this version the monster never attacked. It really plays into the theory that they just used to be humans that got lost and maybe the monster is on your side.
i love this game. the other backroom games just have a monster chasing you and pretty much the same environment. but here, the suspense, the diversity!! lots of love and effort into this game. i think if the player stayed in that final house they might've found another survivor. it looked like someone human was getting ready to rest in there.
I love how there’s no monsters it’s just you endlessly traversing the Backrooms all alone but with your mind playing tricks on you and making you think something is there, when in reality nothing is there at all, truly fascinating
The monster just waved you hi and then leaves is the best thing ever happened. Not being chased by s monster but walking to a room with nothing but emdless loop and elevator
Sean if you haven't seen the whole series of the backrooms videos that Kane Pixels did I really recommend it, he goes into tremendous detail with it and gives really interesting explanations and even touches upon the idea of the monsters being victims in one of the later videos!
I definitely think this is my favorite attempt at a backrooms so far, mainly because it utilizes the aspect of the backrooms I always liked, the space itself. Other backrooms projects with monsters are just much less interesting to me. Plus this one is much more referential of the very first backrooms images and not of the growing backrooms wikidot, which I think is admirable. I think my ideal would be some sort of blending of the two styles, the levels described on Wikidot, but without 90% of the monsters.
Kane Pixels truly is a mad genius for launching a truly unique brand of Horror. This game was a great Backrooms sum. A perfect madhouse of mindless wanders and head traumas created. Thank you for the video, Sean!
this game actually seems really cool for the backrooms found footage, even if there are no monsters in the game. my fear would be the darkness cause you don't know what is in there, it's terrifying.
This designer understands the back rooms, large vast open endless corridors and rooms that have no connection to one another and no direct route, most other games I’ve seen of the back rooms has doors that close off each room, denying the viewer the ability to see its endlessness!

Oh no Seán is back in his horror phase
You can actually see his clothes tugged though
Can you imagine being an entity in the backrooms, and randomly hearing an Irishman screaming?
Also, we need a coffee shop in the Backrooms.
"the fuck was that"
“Goddamn it it’s him again, he keeps making content out of us!”
A shop that keeps showing up like the dude's shop in RE: Village.
Almond water coffee??
@@joeycski I wonder what that would taste like XD
Bruh imagine if there was a backrooms vr game….hell nah bro.
Game Devs: "Write that down, write that down!"
If you play RecRoom on VR, there are some pretty good Backrooms creations that are agailable to play.
@@ryuuthefrog3775 VRChat has one of the best backrooms vr experiences imo.
check steam. inside the backrooms is vr as well as normal. me and my friend played it all in vr. its also multiplayer.
Dreams on PS4 has a bunch of VR backrooms levels. I honestly think this one was in the game as well
I thoroughly enjoyed this video
really inspiring videos
Hi
Hi
Great
👍
I love how the "Long Long Man" bit has become a staple part in Jack's franchise.
Liminal spaces don’t really mess with my head that much, so I think what really finally drove the “the back rooms drive you insane” concept in for me, was when they give you fake outside for the first time.
That’s legitimately fucked up and gave me goosebumps.
If I were in a place like this I wouldn’t be running, I’d be creeping from room to room scratching the wall in an effort not to get turned around.
But that’s the ploy of the backrooms to lure you further and further, to let your mind think there’s progress, to have you give up on hope only to embrace hope once more until…
Nah but In all seriousness going into a room and finding other scratch marks next to yours would be the scariest thing
" I guess I'm all alone in the backrooms, me and my sweet booty have no where to turn to"
I've never related so much to a sentence before
You've been to the backrooms naked?
@@ZACKARDO you havent?
@@Cyozgaming nah i spend my time in the frontrooms
@@ZACKARDO really? Because I’ve only been in then bathrooms
I’m only ten minutes in but I like how no matter how much scenery changes you go through you don’t feel like you’re making progress
"We're not in the backrooms anymore, we're in the bathrooms" lol I chuckled 28 mins into my cardio session watching this
Jack in the backrooms: "You have great interior decorating! Who's your designer?"
This game feels like it’s actually the back rooms video.
Top Tier 🔝
This is a fantastic interpretation of The Backrooms - it really nails what it's going for. For a more traditional video-gamey Backrooms experience, I suggest Enter The Backrooms, which is actually a game I've been developing for over two years. The final major update is dropping this weekend and I'd be honored if you played the game!! :)
Omg it's the CosmicCrowMC man the developer of ETB himself!!!
SEAN, THIS REQUIRES YOUR ATTENTION
@@ItsBunnyBuns Thanks for the support! :D
@@APSTP You know it! ;)
yo I played your game! its easily one of the best backrooms games out there, keep up the good work
man i wish "come play with us danny, we are so fucking bored" was actually a line in the shining, that had me rolling!
I loved it when Jack said "It's Immersing Time" and immersed all over this game.
This is 100% the best backroom game out there, it really shows what a backroom is supposed to be, not being chased by monsters but walking through deserted corridors
You made a copy of that
I love that it also shows the other levels of the backrooms instead of just the yellow halls like most games do lol
Jack: “Thats bait right there” *proceeds to go for the bait* - such a typical Jacksepticeye thing to do 😂😂😂
i read this right as he said it😆
5:30 making a vertigo shot in a video game?! that’s so damn cool (film school student here lol) this game is BEAUTIFUL. i really want to make backrooms content someday
Please do and film it with an old camera! Maybe VHS, maybe miniDV, whatever comes into your hands! The first-hand oldschool effect is much nicer than anything you can replicate digitally I feel
This is a perfect slow burn horror game. A shame that Vinny Vinesauce somehow missed everything like the shadows peaking around the corners
But that’s where the unsettling horror of the backrooms come from. Being completely alone somewhere so familiar but so foreign is terrifying. It gets you on your toes, makes you insane, it makes you see and hear things that aren’t there.
The visuals in this game are stunning, it looks so realistic
Kinda sad you didn't get to experience the mall level in the old version, I found that level really interesting because it's something we haven't seen before in the Kane Pixels videos (which this game takes heavy inspiration from).
@@pgWave. oh, I assume its fairly hard to get to then?
The lack of ambience (sounds 4:13) is why some people said the minecraft overworld was creepy in early versions (and why things like herobrine were made) you onow that you should be hearing something, anything at all, but all you hear is your own footsteps and eventually, the blood pumping through your ears. Studies conducted on those who went through white room torture showed that after a certain amount of time, the body is so starved of ambience that it no longer tunes out the sound of bodily functions
One of the definitions for the word "Complex" is actually "a related group of repressed or partly repressed emotionally significant ideas which cause psychic conflict leading to abnormal mental states or behavior"
so that's cool
Every time I see that Seán publishes a new video, my heart does a backflip of joy
Same
Okay, but can we talk about how COOL that IRIS logo animation was?! It was so smooth...
Also, if you're enjoying the backrooms games, I highly recommend Anemoiapolis to everyone! It's in beta/demo version at the moment but it's still cool in demo mode.
*THANK YOU, GREEN BEAN!!*
Honestly, I hate to sound harsh, but: *What the fuck, JSE Community?*
_For YEARS_ viewers have been thirsting for, theorizing about, and constantly nagging Seán for Ego Content. Now he’s about to deliver- on a massive scale, mind you- and there are hardly anybody talking about it.
And this is weeks of some people, particularly on the JSE Subreddit and worse, on Evelien’s RUclips Channel- shoutout to how goddamn rude this is- literally screaming :
_Where’s Seán? Why isn’t he uploading?_
I think people have forgotten that Seán had every intention of starting this two years ago. Then COVID happened.
Along with everything else that’s happened to him physically, mentally and emotionally.
He also received definitive diagnoses regarding his ADHD and Generalized Anxiety.
I’m sorry if my reply sounded negative, but I’m glad you’re excited about _I.R.I.S._
@@Lesley_RedRhody Agreed.
Also the amount of toxicly positive people "Sean is the best, only makes the greatest content ever", "So glad he is taking a break, he deserves it, hope he will be ok soon"
....UUUUUUH!
@@Lesley_RedRhody Yeah. Though I’m still soooooo hyped for the ego stuff. It looks so official, this production. Everyone else is either excited but not commenting it or idiots
@@BotHunterCZE how is any of that toxic? they're glad he's taking a break and hope he returns well to make his usual quality content? nothing toxic about that, not everything is bad or negative.
@GreenBean Hell yeah! Anemoiapolis is amazing as fuck. I can’t wait for the full game.
the water area looks exactly like the setting of a recurring dream i have. like essentially spot on
It is so ironic that Sean doesn't perceive his natural accent as "oozing sex appeal" when the Irish accent is undoubtedly THE sexiest accent in the world!
16:46
Sean: starvation would kick in, in the backrooms
5 seconds later, diner hall
I had a dream not too long ago that was sort of like the backrooms. Except it was more like time was frozen. I felt no hunger, no exhaustion, no need to expel bodily matter. And it felt like I was trapped there for years.
Every now and then I'd come across a small hole in the wall or porthole in the ceiling that would open up to the real world. Just big enough to stick a limb through part way.
I've never been more relived to wake up...
The “Oh, and now I get to go to dinner, OH NOOO” got me laughing
I would definitely watch a backrooms movie starring Sean. I think it would be so cool!
Jack: "I'm not going into your house I was raised better than that"
Jack less than 5 seconds: "I'll go into this one though"
im literally so excited for the iris project ngl I cant wait for it to be released - all the horror games sean has been playing I'm so excited for his own video too
wait, has this game been updated? i had a very different experience with this, some of these rooms i didn't even see. anyway, I clicked on this SO fast because I love this kind of content from you!
I guess it must've. Still neat looking, but I hate the new running animation
I freaking loved the part with the twins from the Shining. Sean never fails to craco me up
This is the best jacksepticeye hair era yet
Did he dye his hair darker or is it just me???
So excited for the IRIS stuff!! The logo is so cool! Been hoping for something like it for years, and I’m so glad it’s finally happening!
read that as iris
I've always wondered why in this version the monster never attacked. It really plays into the theory that they just used to be humans that got lost and maybe the monster is on your side.
i love this game. the other backroom games just have a monster chasing you and pretty much the same environment. but here, the suspense, the diversity!! lots of love and effort into this game.
i think if the player stayed in that final house they might've found another survivor. it looked like someone human was getting ready to rest in there.
waiting for some wiki enthusiast to enter screaming and crying because “NO SCAWWYY ENTITIY CHACE!!!”
14:25
Sean: That's a misdirect!
Dylan: This guy gets it.
😂😂😂😂
New fear unlocked: the back rooms
dunno if anyone else noticed but by the end of the video jacks shit messed up and it aint connected to the rest of the vid anymore-
starts at 15:49
Atmospheric horror always seems so much more appealing to me than monsters and jumpscares. Quick editor blink twice if you're being held hostage.
Sean if you haven't seen the whole series of the backrooms videos that Kane Pixels did I really recommend it, he goes into tremendous detail with it and gives really interesting explanations and even touches upon the idea of the monsters being victims in one of the later videos!
Kinda missed hearing Sean get louder & less controlled as his anxiety rises.
Imagine Being A Monster And You See Jack Screaming Like A Maniac
18:54
"Poor irishman quotes Homelander from The Boys, immediately regrets it!"
I think my ideal would be some sort of blending of the two styles, the levels described on Wikidot, but without 90% of the monsters.
nah bro the way he reacted when he felt his collar be pulled, that actually gave me a heart attack
Same here 😱😱
Kane Pixels truly is a mad genius for launching a truly unique brand of Horror.
This game was a great Backrooms sum. A perfect madhouse of mindless wanders and head traumas created.
Thank you for the video, Sean!
The fact that this game has a filter to make it look like an old camera makes it look so realistic
I would 100% be walking that slow, I’d be so scared to find something around every corner..
I think I would do that and then just find a corner and cry lmao
this game actually seems really cool for the backrooms found footage, even if there are no monsters in the game. my fear would be the darkness cause you don't know what is in there, it's terrifying.
3:27
Jack:Hey Kane. Make a backrooms movie one day
*1 year later*
Kane:WE'RE MAKING A BACKROOMS MOVIE EVERYONE
I was about to comment that!
Lol
I love the ending. Just the camera getting out, how it clanks when hitting the pipe. It really hits.
Really liked the snippets of your project, too!
I don’t know why but anytime jack uploads a video i always have like a inner child joy
Fr
I mean… it’s your childhood.
Same here
Same haha

This designer understands the back rooms, large vast open endless corridors and rooms that have no connection to one another and no direct route, most other games I’ve seen of the back rooms has doors that close off each room, denying the viewer the ability to see its endlessness!
6:42 jack is tilting his head like he was gonna be able to see more of the building
“Let’s make a backrooms thing together” PLEASE LET THIS HAPPEN
