Huge congrats on your first work trip! You’re allowed to bring small scissors and knitting needles on the plane. Plane knitting is honestly my favorite knitting time so I hope you can enjoy it! I recommend something simple that you don’t have to think a lot about and that doesn’t need too many accessories (stitch markers or cable needles)- I’ve lot quite a few stitch markers on planes!

I used to say I would never knit socks on magic loop! Then, one day, my hands started cramping with my 9-inch and I retried magic loop. It's been 3 years since I made the switch and I'm never going back!
Also, I'm from Chicago! If you have access to a car, I highly recommend Wool and Company. It's about 40 minutes from O'Hare. If you are able to go, I would also suggest a little trip to Harvey's Tales which is about 15 minutes away from the shop. It's a super cute book store! 😊

Needles should be no problem in the US, and scissors up to 3in blades are allowed as well! You’re gonna do great! Knitting will help keep you calm through any anxiety ❤️

I love knitting socks on a plane. I get nervous and it’s nice and calming. I use 9 inch circulars which I find nice and easy for the plane. I hope you have fun even if you’re scared!

knitting needles are specifically TSA approved 🥰 but as a frequent knitting flyer, here's another tip: TSA is more strict with scissors but you can bring either nail clippers or a small dental floss to snip your yarn with the blade! i also recommend casting on beforehand so you don't have fiddle around with is and just enjoy the knitting ☺️ but thanks for the reminder, i'm also headed to a work trip next week and didnt even think to look up local yarn stores!!

How brave to be taking a flight even though it is scary!
It's not exactly the same, but maybe my experience can help you. I have generalized anxiety, and when I am struggling with it I talk to myself in my head and say something like "These are anxious thoughts, they are not mine and they are not in charge of how I feel." Then I try to think of a replacement thought and say it in my head ~*~with conviction~*~.
It might sound silly, but if I can draw a line between myself and the anxious thoughts and acknowledge that I do not have to agree with what the anxiety is trying to convince me, it helps me to take more control of how I am thinking and feeling. It gets easier with practice too! Also everyone says this but for me it really is true, taking nice slow deliberate breaths - big ones that make your belly go out- really helps me a lot.
Sending you love! You GOT THIS!

I would definitely plan to bring some stockinette knitting with you on the plane. I get very nervous flying and I find that it really helps me so much.

I’m currently knitting plenty of socks for the colder months here in middle England. So looking forward to Autumn ❤

It’s so funny to hear about your thoughts on flying!!! Because you were once my virtual fly buddy LOL. Meeeeaning I binge watched your episodes throughout the Denver airport for like a 4 hour layover once. We walked many terminals, ate chipotle and chilled in multiple gates. So here are some good flying vibes ✨✨✨ and my suggestion is def have some knitting and some podcasts for distraction :)

Girl I love your book recommendations, I feel like you have a real relatable way of telling the experience of reading them. Also cute socks!!

I've never had an issue bringing knitting on a plane in the US!! I can also rip most fingering weight yarn without a scissor if you're worried about that...but a scissor with a tiny blade is specifically TSA approved. You will be ok!! If you can choose your seat, sitting around the wings is usually less bumpy in my experience :)

I always love your bookish sections at the end of the video; and definitely with you on bride being more romance that leans into fantasy. I think I even heard the author say on a podcast once that all her world building / decisions about fantasy where guided by what would serve the romance most, so probably a different approach from the full on fantasy books. Curious to hear what you think about your next books and hoping you’ll get to enjoy your work trip ☺️

Loved hearing about your reading! I think I might have to try Brandon Sanderson, I need a good author!

My husband loves Brando Sando so I read Tress and Yumi and the Nightmare Painter. Then I jumped into the Stormlight Archive - just finished Way of Kings yesterday, it is CHUNKY and slow moving for the first 3/4 but worth all the setup. I really recommend Yumi and the Nightmare Painter too, I liked that one even better than Tress.

I LOVE Brandon Sanderson! I have almost all of his novels hahaha, can’t wait to hear your thoughts if you do get to read Mistborn.

You can take anything knitting on the plane - TSA approved! (Knitting, tiny scissors, yarn, keys, etc). I would not take your most valuable tools though.. specifically needles and scissors, just in case.

My problem with magic loop is I always end up with ladders😢 if I could find a way to avoid them I might be converted. For now, 9inch circs it is

I felt the same way about tress! Especially the first few lines in the book! It was so lyrical and beautiful. Unfortunately I also felt the same about bride 🥲 while reading it I was like “wow I’m obsessed” and then after I finished, especially after the “knotting” experience I was… quite put off and realized I didn’t enjoy it as much as I thought I did 😂
Dance of thieves is one of my favorite books though so I’m excited to hear your thoughts next time!
