    That brass piece with a little lever on it and a hole in it may be off of a powder flask.

    Don't believe the brass part you found is a "lock slide." Looks like the broken end ( finial) of a trigger guard to a possible 18th C. trade gun or musket /rifle. Was there a small hole in the part that came down? If so, that's where a bin passed through to hold it in the stock.
