I said this before but I’ve never (I’m 60) seen a woman change so much thru pregnancy and every video feels a bit miraculous. The words that you have so come into your own are the ones that keep coming to mind. The confidence you have now is just so cool. I think when us women are younger we have a tendency to almost apologize for our lives. Make ourselves smaller in many ways. It’s like you’ve absolutely shedded that nonsense and seem very whole. I love it!!!

@@ElsaRhae I don’t think I fully experienced this until menopause but fully fitting in my own skin is honestly the most important thing that’s happened to me. It’s just so neat that I’ve been able to witness it so clearly in someone I don’t even know. Also, I’ve been watching since very early scamp days

@ElsaRhae I had to chime in here… Amen! Love seeing you both like this, frustrating moments and difficult moments alike, but the authenticity, the truth, the raw… the worlds needs more of this. Our young people need to see you both as shining examples in a sea of so much “fake” and “pleasing” culture. This is life, and the success of life. Thank you, love every minute of every video!

I’m a Hispanic man with a family of my own, and for many years, we lived in a home that we had worked hard to pay off. Before that, as a teenager, I bounced between apartments with my mom and sisters. Those places had plumbing, electricity, and gas, but getting them wasn’t easy. We had to work hard for every bit of comfort, all while dealing with random people we didn’t get along with-and let’s not forget the neighbors.
Even earlier, as a child, we lived in Texas during a time when technology was almost nonexistent. Life back then was simple-no cell phones, TVs, or audio players. If we wanted music, we made it ourselves. Entertainment? We had to create it. And when we felt like being social, we went into town.
Watching your videos brings back a lot of nostalgia for those days. In some ways, I miss that simpler lifestyle and even dream of going back to it, though I’d love to add solar power to the mix. God knows my daughter couldn’t survive without her Roblox, but combining that simplicity with today’s technology could be incredible.

Elsa, Meal prepping is such a great thing to do. I didnt have a baby but major surgery and prepped 3 months worth. Ended up really appreciating the varieties vegetable/protein soup. I used a combo of canning jars(which you can freeze , put less in google it!) And food saver/zip bags ( not as enviro friendly) but sometimes you won't want dishes. Also pepper or cayenne pepper in soil keeps cats out.
So exciting baby is coming, such a blessing ❤

In reference to the kitty's using a plant pot, I've had that issue before. I solved mine by making dome shaped toppers with chicken wire. It works great esp when you stake it on each side. BUT: someone told me to poke plastic forks down in the soil. That sounds easy too! After my babies, I made a lot of crock pot meals, but that was the 80's- lol. Good luck, you're gonna do great! How wonderful, a baby girl! I just got a grand baby girl named Alyce after me😊

I , personally, was 21 and had never even baby sat an infant . My husband and I were definitely clueless in so many ways. As long as our baby boy was still breathing it seemed like a good sign😊. I read the Doctor Spock book religiously , it was the parents handbook of that day and answered many questions. Very helpful. Still very scary time when you have a wee tiny baby dependent on you to do the right thing. We were so in love with this baby !

Yaass Elsa & Barron! The ultimate meal prepping, meat prepping ;-)
We've lived in an off grid tiny house the past 8 years and just before my first came we got our chest freezer, suuuuch a game changer as a full time parent. Even just cooking double and putting a meal away in the freezer, it feels like total self care. I also like prepping bone broths, and 'ingredients' for meals too, really helps. Nice work team!

I just remember my parents and their friends and other family members all joining together to process the meat but also spend the evening with their loved ones. They’re in their sixties and still do this tradition almost every year, I live far away now so I don’t get to participate but it’s still heartwarming to see the process. You two are so hard-working and resilient! Thank you for being honest about the challenges involved in living off-grid.
We lived for 10 years with a 25-foot Airstream and GMC Yukon equipped with solar and propane heat/fridge power so we could live off grid at least part of the time. Being able to solve the problems that inevitably came up took time and work. But, it was worth it. We feel like we can handle almost everything. But when people told us, "You're living my dream," we'd smile and, if they truly were serious, we'd give them an overview of all the decisions, big and small, that were involved in making it work. We'd encourage them to try but to be aware that romanticizing the life will lead to a rude awakening.
Wishing you both a safe and healthy season with the impending arrival of your daughter! :-)

You guys are so amazing….. I would not be strong enough to live off grid.. well maybe if I wasn’t in my 70’s and had some one to share it with…. But you guys really make it look easy❤❤❤❤happy baby … and make sure you are not messing with the cats litter box ❤❤❤❤❤

Elsa, Elsa, Elsa! lol.....I always thought you were an amazing woman, but look at you now! Just stay off the roof, lol. I am so glad you are preparing for the days after giving birth. Having a completely new dependent human to love and take care of is mind blowing by itself. You can never be prepared for everything, but you sure as heck can make it an easier transition. You will all benefit greatly from all the hard work and effort you put into it now. Looking forward to the day you introduce your daughter to your RUclips community. She is one lucky little girl. You two are going to be incredible parents. Can't wait! ❤

    Barron,
    You're fine.
For the duration of Fatherhood, you will be constantly learning and "switching" from one thing to another.
When time allows, take time to write daily. You will have another book to publish in no time.

Not your voice going up 10 octaves when you said, "I'm about to lose it!!" You are so fun and funny to watch! I had white knuckles the whole time you were on the roof!

I love how you listen to your body so well...and you are already such a wonderful Mama! Keep up the great work. I used to say the getting up to pee is basic training for waking to feed your newborn...the brain is able to function on broken sleep because it has had a gradual entrance to it. Barron is a good father providing in ways that are best. It is refreshing to see parents like you two and to even look forward to what this little lady will be received into!

Your off grid homestead is so awesome! You guys have done amazing work!
Try glass containers vs. plastic - there is a lot of concern about heating/reheating food in plastic containers...and your cats are SO CUTE!
Also, look up cat wall perches - to keep the cat food high enough to keep the puppers out of it. Lots of cool options (like a climbing rock wall for cats) that might appeal to you

Laughing to myself when you said “oh my god theres no more gas in the generator” following speaking about the relentless nature of off grid.
What a perfect representation lol! I have been off grid for 5 years now and the amount of times these situations happen!

I used to enjoy meal prep when I was in my apartment & working. It’s definitely a well planned adventure. I had my freezer loaded! One thing I did buy was the huge bags of shredded cheddar & mozzarella. Lots of ziplock bags, a handful of cheese, & they all went into a couple of bread bags then into the freezer. Enjoy the process Elsa!

Post partum meal prepping...what a great idea!
The thing with living off grid is as you expand and improve all things, some things will fail until you get it all figured out! Definitely a learning process, from troubleshooting to actually fixing the issue at hand. I can honestly say that when I was pregnant I still did pretty much everything and anything that needed to be done (was alone) and just listened to what my body was telling me. You are rocking this Elsa! Wishing you all the best in the next few weeks!

It’s fun to have challenges. Not all the time. Definitely it is not fun to come home to find that your day is not done. Barron you are such a nice man. You go ahead and tackle new things and find your way through the tough things that probably wouldn’t be your first choice of puzzles to solve. We know it’s off grid living, but that doesn’t mean you can’t complain. You can and should complain. Complaining is a way we keep our mental balance. My husband’s “job” is to listen to my complaints and compliment me on being an over comer. 😊

I've been making marshmallows for 10 years. To get them to be less lumpy, as soon as the mixture is done whipping very quickly scrape/ pour it out of the bowl with a rubber spatula and work as fast as you can. It starts to set very fast. The less you mess with it, the smoother they'll be 😉

Elsa, you are doing great! You always work so hard (you both do). Taking care of the house, the fur babies, the plant babies, and yourself all while Barron was away hunting. That is very tough to do.
Barron, even when you don't feel like writing because you lack mental bandwidth for a new book or something, you should still write for yourself, even if just to get stuff off your mind. You are a Jack-of-all-trades like my Grandfather was; you know a little bit about a lot of things, and that is awesome!

Btw Elsa you are one bad ass Momma to be clearing those solar panels of snow. Makes this 71 yr old woman who just climbed onto her van roof to do the same feel so normal, dang that roof was slippery 🤣

we put a shelf PLUS kinda shelf like steps to put the cat bowl on... our older baby doge (10yo blk GSD) passed in june and lo and behold my SO handed me another on in july! she is 9 months old now....and can jump up all those "shelf" steps to eat all the cat food for poor 4 yo Ginger. (a tortoise shell feral my older doge saved from a pile of debri on the side of our road.) I now have to reconfigure our small small little house's window ledge shelves....we live in a regular house but it is small old hunting lodge off house from the mid 30s. MAN, new full of energy puppies are keen to eat that dang cat food!
