I love how you guys look at this show. So many people, especially the big creators online don’t understand what’s so great about the bad batch. They want those flashy lights and only the big spectacles and cameos and characters so bad that they miss what’s so great about the series. They couldn’t have cared less about hunter or omega from the start that they refuse to take the visor off and see the great aspects of this new kind of Star Wars because that’s not why they tuned in to begin with. It’s honestly really disappointing that so many people are missing some fantastic content. So excited for the next season

I like how the finale episodes added weight to the filler episodes. Crosshair was like 'you buggered around the galaxy doing odd jobs when you could have rescued me.' It added weight to the choice that TBB chose not to rescue Crosshair

He did mention that but he also mentioned their board with all the chalk markings on it too. Are you possibly referring to the chalk board missions line in your comment perhaps? It went like this: "All those missions together...and you threw it away." He's referring to the missions they did together back when he was still with the Batch, wasn't really about the missions they did after he was no longer with him.

Um, that bit at the beginning was EVEN BETTER than the original tattoo removal bit from a few weeks ago. Didn't think it could get any funnier, and yet it did. Well done. Also, hawt Howzer shirt. Also also, I love Greg's commitment to Halloween; my favorite season, so I dig it.
I am completely on board with your theory about Crosshair trying to hurt Hunter emotionally because he "takes things so personally" - it makes sense like the way my brother accuses me of being thin-skinned and unable to take a joke, and then purposely teases me to press exactly those buttons.
Yall are also so right about "I understand you but don't agree with you" being such a common theme in Star Wars.
Ok if you've read this far I'm grateful for your attention. I just love your whole discussion of the slow-burn storytelling style, because it's how I recognize it and it's so nice to see someone on the interwebz appreciate it the way I do. I've kept feeling like people who say BB was mostly filler and boring were just not paying attention to the subtlety. People seem to be too used to lots of action and really quick and obvious character development, but that's not what this show is. My husband pointed out that it's a lot more like British shows like Doctor Who and older stuff like Star Trek Voyager and DS9. I think he's right, and it's really refreshing to see something more subtle and drawn out coming to the fore. I also think your assessment that the Disney+ shows are being used to stitch the movies together is spot on.
Filler! Michael is right, the filler in this season was much better used than in other shows. You always see at least one of the guys or Omega learn something in each episode, even the "filler" ones. Whether it's Hunter learning to do the right thing in the tactical droid episode or Echo learning that it's time to let go of the old war's battle lines in the Separatist senator episode. Every episode contributes to them learning to understand and maybe eventually forgive Crosshair.
LOL your 5-year-olds joke probably hit badly because you went soooo hard on it and drew it out for soooo long. I'm a tabletop gamer, and yeah in my comment on last week's video I was like "It's a shame Michael is so wrong" (also a joke, meant tongue-in-cheek) but seriously one dude ripping on tabletop games isn't going to ruin my world. I'll just be over here with my fellow 5-year-olds in our little club that you can't join cos you're 6 :P (legit though why does anybody listen to the audio only version when there's an awesome video version? Why wouldn't you want to appreciate Greg wearing pants? Oh and the set is cool too I guess)

I’d like to add a theory to Crosshair’s character development: his behaviour up until the point where he was injured in the engine explosion was very harsh and aggressive towards the bad batch, however after the injury he has been slowly softening towards them.
He sustained his injury to the right side of his head which is the same side as the inhibitor chip. Was his chip damaged in the explosion and this has allowed him to start to fight against it somewhat? The chip is still there but it is damaged and malfunctioning.

Agree 100% with the weaving analogy & "filler episodes". The loose threads of Rex, Howzer, the Martez sistahs, Cad, Fennec, Ryloth and maybe even Muchi & the dianoga? (ok, maybe not the last two) :P Nipples are canon in SW :D The convo starting at 42:24 lol. :)
I have a feeling they'll also do more weaving and cross weaving between live action shows and the Bad Batch, so we may not have to wait until BB S2 to move their story along. I still need to visit Galaxy's Edge!

I felt he was kinda stunned that even though all that happened they still either trusted him not to kill Hunter OR just did NOT want to fire on their friend.

The reason why that mountain at the end is cool and important is that it was confirmed to be Mt Tantiss on the planet Weyland from the Thrawn Trilogy (see the Star Wars Explained tweet). I don’t know how much you two like Thrawn, but that’s a huge thing. With this, plus casting rumors, plus what we known about the Mandalorian-verse future, it’s pretty close to certain now that Disney is setting up a new Thrawn campaign, which is massive to us Legends and Thrawn lovers.

Honestly, I love it when the writers want to let loose every now and again and just explore some fun, wacky stuff in the universe. Star Wars is perfect for that sort of stuff! There's no need to be so serious and dark all the dang time when there's a mountain of unexplained, ominous, ambiguous, vague and mysterious things happening there too, constantly!! Fun Fact: It was revealed, during the Untold Clone Wars panel, that the D-squad would've eventually returned to the show, but this time they'd participate in a sort of Top Gun homage arc featuring Rex, R2 and an epic rivalry between the clone pilots and clone ground troops. One of the writers, Brent Friedman, hinted that that unfinished arc, involving Rex and paying homage to Top Gun, would've been their "most darkest & wackiest adventure" in TCW yet.

I really enjoyed this first season of The Bad Batch. They did leave a lot on the table that will be addressed in future episodes and I'm ok with that. I love the connections to both Clone Wars and Rebels as well as the Easter eggs for the Sequel Trilogy.
Seeing how the Empire is dealing with Raxus (a Separatist world) and Ryloth (a Republic world) was really cool where you're watching this fledgling Empire cement it's hold on the galaxy and gathering the massive amount of resources they need to build the Deathstar. I have a feeling that could cause some trouble down the line! 😊
I'm curious to learn more about Omega....there has to be more about her than being a replica of Jango Fett minus the Y chromosome.

First time since the firing of Carano that I feel disappointed in our fan base again. There’s a seriously willful ignorance of a lot of what the show does great. People rush to call every episode filler, but in reality only the Rancor and Pantora one were boring at all. Even Infested is a great episode with just the wrong place in the season. 14 out of 16 episodes is not a bad ratio at all. Compared to what we got in two seasons of Mando, this show has had much more plot and character work in just one season.

This may be me being the odd one yet again but I'm even more excited for season 2 than I was back in 1x10, to say an episode. I don't know where they'll be taking us and that's exciting! For me, of course. I'm also tired of all the endless theorizing and I won't be doing it anymore. I don't want to resent creators for not giving me what *I* want. It's their story(ies) to tell. So I'll be there when they come back because I'm super invested in the characters. I care deeply for every single one of them. Gimme the story you want to tell as long as these characters are well developed.
I was one of those that though Cross had taken his chip out after Bracca but all those shots of him rubbing his head... nah, it's still in. Which makes it all even more heartbreaking because he is STILL a victim of the Empire while he's acting like their pawn. He's redeemable, of course (if anyone can make him come back it's Omega. There was weird something going on between in the finale) but I wonder how they're gonna make him earn that redemption. Which I guess if a biased question to ask because we pardon the Rebels for doing exactly what he's been doing (but like, the Empire is full on nazi. Ffs). Dunno.
Anyway. I became a SW fan just last year during lockdown and you guys have been the first community I've been a part of and so far, so good! I just want to talk about what I like and hear different opinions and perspectives without fanboys/girls going for my neck whenever I raise my voice. So thank you for being so inclusive, Greg and Michael. It means more than you know.

I think Crosshair has his chip, but its complicated. I think them cranking the intensity of it's programing destroyed the chip and it was taken out. Crosshairs nature is different because it's now burnt into his personality rather than bing just a personality overlay like the rest of the clones. It hasn't always been part of him but it is now regardless. I think in time they will be able to reverse some of the damage but he will always be a bit off the rails because of it... he'll get over it though.

Disney has been involved in Star Wars development since A New Hope. Disney lent George all the extra props for the Cantina scene and the giant skeleton in the Tatooine Desert to save their production. It is a relationship that led to George opening Star Tours in the parks and after that many of their film production staff were shared in development of the Prequels. George very much started developing a narrative that would attract Disney which led to him making Clone Wars. The latter seasons leading up to Clone Wars being "Canceled" is when Disney started REALLY getting involved working with George to curb the narrative towards what we are seeing today. The lightsabers the padawans built on Illum in that one arch and all the connections in Clone Wars that would have been impossible to plan without some sort of long term structure. They are identical to what ended up in Galaxy's Edge.
They don't tell directors these things like JJ cause the truth in story telling is you really really don't need to, same with the actors. The writers just have to be acquainted with the story group and the artists that move from each film/tv/cartoon like Doug Chang (who's been around since EpI) to re-enforce these background narratives. Directors are tools most of the time, like the Queen of England.
I recon one of the things George snuck in the Disney purchase contract was "If you want Star Wars you have to do these stories verbatim, but you have to take the bullet and say I had nothing to do with it. Fans are total relentless sociopaths."... then ended up becoming a majority stake holder in Disney... so I guess he still kind of owns the franchise and could easily pull out at any time... you know if he didn't expressly love what they were doing lol.

Astute and really well written. I completely agree and I think that while direction by committee proved to not work so well, the general plan is still in place

@@RexinAround I agree I think it definitely cost them compared to what they could have done with a better structure... but honestly there is a level of charm for me in the fact that until this point the ST era of development really had a lot of the same complications due to production problems like Harrison being a loose canon filming ESB and them being forced to write an escape clause to cut him from the narrative if it came down to it. I am upset that we could have gotten better sure but I have an appreciation for what we got personally.

Which is exactly why there was already a "substitute" for TCW when Rebels came out not too long after the show's cancellation. It's a shame though. What writers like Brent Friedman have revealed was that the show had 40 episodes left to go. Just 2 more season's worth of scripts left and the show would've truly been complete. A damn shame. I'm glad that we got the true and original conclusion to the entire show at least. It had a proper finish finally, even if it wasn't wholly complete.

@@Vandicoup As someone who works in animation; that is going to be the case with every well developed show no matter the circumstance. I can give examples on entire story archs that were shuffled with no idea if they would ever come back to it. One REALLY big adult cartoon.

@@peterslavik1449 Indeed. I think I sort of am aware of this. I've always heard about all these potential & official Clone Wars ideas that would either be scrapped from making it anywhere past the initial concept/idea-creation phase or just become unfinished/incomplete during any of the actual levels of production pipelines like that Boba Fett v. Cad Bane arc, Quinlan Vos & Ventress arc, etc. And oooo, spill the beans! Haha, jk. Not sure if you are allowed to. ;) And thanks for replying btw, haha

As an Iowan I can garintee that corn fields are not as fun as Disney. It is really close, but still Disney is better... just slightly.

Finale made me mad and I think it would have operated better as a mid season event than a finale (so 25 episode season). Waaaay too many loose ends
