Hello from Tasmania Australia. I felt compelled to say, “Hello & Thankyou”.
I can’t believe I haven’t found you until now, but glad I have. I wish you had reviewed the Silver 100’s.
I’m just in the process of setting out to build myself a small system after a hiatus from Audio for a while due to the fact I’ve been living in transient mode for a few years. I’ve just bought a rural shack on a few acres overlooking the Tasmanian coastline and have a small room which I plan to set up. So far, I have the Listening chair, a retro coloured Stressless recliner…..& that’s as far as I have got 😂. The Silver 100’s are on my ever expanding shirt list. I basically just want speakers, amp & turntable. I might also DAC it, but that’s not a priority as vinyl is where my heart is.
All said, I look forward to exploring your Channel, this was an excellent straight to the point review, even a convict could understand it 😂
      👍🏻

Tarun I've got to say, your approach to reviewing equipment is simply excellent. Same format every time, a little bit of the philosophy behind what you're reviewing, technical, sound quality. And you're never afraid to say something is better than something else. Also no overly flowery subjective language that means nothing. Good on you, man, thanks for doing this!

@Audio123 , you are certainly entitled to your opinion. He has not steered me wrong, and I value his opinion. I have purchased several items on his opinion, and they have matched his reviews. Granted, not every one has been perfect, but my ears are different. As to being paid by the companies, he reviews, I don't believe this to be the case. Call me gullible, but I like what I have from his reviews.

@@Audio456 , I certainly do buy off opinions, as I can't listen to everything, but the difference is whether I keep it or not. As to my opinion, I voice it when I think it is necessary, and if someone doesn't like it, that is their prerogative. If companies reward him, then he is doing a good job and deserves his reward. I do believe he is honest and not overly influence by sponsorships, if at all.

I restarted my audio journey during the early days of Covid…and my experience with a pair Monitor Audio Sliver 100s (perhaps the generation before this one), was one of your former variety. Paired with my 40+ year-old Bob Carver C500 Solid State Power Amp…I sat on my sofa in a game of Russian Roulette, winching each time I took new music for a spin wondering if my ears were about to bleed, or not….even with a tube preamp driving the rig. Perhaps bad synergy…but it was a bad restart of my audio journey. I sold them off quickly and I might have had two demons happening there…bad component matching and the previous generation speakers. …As you describe the new series…I think even these would be too "lively" for my listening preferences…but I get that you kept an open mind and pulled an enjoyable experience from this new Monitor Audio offering! BRAVO! 👍🏼

A typically informative and insightful review Tarun, thank you. I do have a soft spot for MA as I've owned speakers from their Radius, Apex and Gold series in the past. I do think that the Silver series represents the sweet spot in their range in terms of finish and value and I actually prefer their gold dome C-CAM tweeters over their more expensive ribbon siblings. MA's build quality and finish are absolutely first rate. And they produce such a wide range from the 50 to 500, centre and di-poles for home cinema enthusiasts, they have a great deal to offer at their price point and have something for every person and every room.
As far as highlights from Munich's show goes, I did spot some very interesting new components and speakers from Quad. I adore Quad's house sound, owning the Vena II and Artera Play+. But Quad are introducing a range of components that appear to be above their Artera line: the Platina series, including a 200wpc amplifier, and their new Revela speakers, which if the limited photos I've seen are anything to go by, look absolutely stunning. I have enough confidence in the brand that I think these two ranges could be something really worth checking out.

First of all, Having found your channel a few weeks back I would like to tell you that your presentation is probably the best I have come across and your understanding of how to express the various attributes of equipment is second to none. Or Wow am I hooked.
I am not surprised at your findings on the Monitor Audio's, seems to me that they have perfected the art of building speakers with an abundance of clarity, of course, you will need to move upmarket to get the full range of tonal abilities and so I would suggest trying the MA 300 silvers and then their platinum range, you may then find what you are looking for, I personally have experience with Musical Fidelity Amps and MA speakers. You may have the chance that I won't, so maybe one of these class D amps like the Purifi Eigentakt stereo amp and MA speakers could be a great match.
There are a lot of your videos to get through, so maybe you will have found the time by then.

Another excellent and informative review Tarun which characterises this channel. I have the MA Silver 100 6g paired with my Exposure 2510. Although I’m sure I could upgrade to more price appropriate speakers, the performance is such that I feel it would need to be a significant investment to achieve noticeable improvements. The combo is good at relatively low volumes as well as high since the 8’’ driver produces quite a full, rich tone at low levels. I also don’t feel a subwoofer is essential which it would likely be with some other speakers. It has left me in a quandary regards what might pair better with the Exposure and proves I guess, that there is no perfect component or combination. Keep up the great work on the channel.

I've gone open baffle recently, with my Monacor Katana M-1 kit and my Decware ZM15M self-build clones with the Betsy baffle. Just today I listened to both the Monitor Bronze 100 5G and Silver 50 7G. The Bronze was quite good for its price point and had more bass. The Silver sounded much more refined and enjoyable to listen to. The improvement was quite a bit more than I would have expected from the price differential. I'd love to hear the Silver 100's but nobody stocks them locally. I also heard a pair of Paradigm Founder 40B's. They had much more bass than either, and sounded great, though they cost twice as much as the Silvers. In the $1,000 to $1,500 price range the Silver 50's are very solid contenders.

Hello Tarun! Having been to Munich, I must say that true innovation at moderate prices is hard to come by. And yet - there are two speakers I suggest to look at. The first will be an obvious choice: The Mofi Sourcepoint 10 sounded spectacularly good all around in Munich and is in my opinion an absolute price breaker. I was there on Sunday and my wish to compare them to the newer and smaller Sourcepoint 8 was not granted. Maybe you can step in via RUclips. My second suggestion is a new horn speaker that will be brought to market later this year by the Avantgarde Acoustics of Germany. It‘s called the „Colibri“, relatively small and relatively less pricey than their other offerings. They sounded more than OK, unfortunately the music played was slightly „esoteric“ so a final verdict is difficult. Making these suggestions I notice of course that they are way more expensive than the items you currently review. However, they are not too unrealistic to afford for many people. Which brings me to another subject as far as Munich is concerned: Prices for many components are no longer understandable in any way. In many rooms, the feeling of being offered snake oil prevails. Thanks for your excellent reviews and greetings from Germany.

These are on my audition list. I have the Roksan streaming amp and would think there would be a synergy between the two.
I would like to ad that Monitor Audio are easy to contact for advice unlike some other manufacturers.

After a short discussion with Monitor Audio they recommended to rather go for the 50 silver than the more expensive 100 silvers.
Anyway, their service is tops. I would highly recommend the as a company.

Hi Tarun - Until recently I shared with you that same bias regarding metal cone drivers. Without ever having heard them I'd convinced myself that their sound would be bright and lean. Several years ago I was disabused of that notion after hearing a pair of Monitor Audio stand mounted speakers at an audio show. The presentation in that hotel room tended more towards warm and rich than anything else. I'd never have guessed I was listening to metal drivers. Thanks for another brilliant review. How about a review of the new Falcon Acoustics M10? Or the Graham Audio LS5/9?

Great review, and great speakers. The Limited edition ones are beautiful too. One question from me: Is there any chance you'll be doing a review of either the Wharfedale Linton 85 or the Willsenton R300? I have seen no comparative reviews of the R8/R800i and the R300. I'd be very intrigued to hear your thoughts on the R300, as you have experience with the R8 and the R800i.
Again, thanks for the time and effort you put into these videos, I genuinely love your reviews.

Hi Tarun, welcome to my wonderful world of MA. What took you so long? 😂.
For as long as you’ve been banging on about your ProAcs, I’ve been drivelling on about my GR20s. How ironic then that on the day I pick up a pair of speakers with a reputation for stellar midrange, you step into my world of clarity, definition and punch.
Great review and I’m glad you liked them. I did try the earlier gen of 100s in my small room but the matching wasn’t right with the amp and the room. It just overpowered at about 50Hz. Pity, they were lovely.

A review of the Silver 300 would be an interesting one. 3 way using the same driver technology (not the 200 that is a 2.5 way).
With regards to amplification, I have enjoyed Roksan and MA speakers in various guises over the years, and before MA bought them. Roksan amps typically have enough grunt to keep lower dipping ohm speakers behaving themselves.

Hi Taran. Have to confess I'm a big Monitor Audio fanboy. Still own the old RS6 floorstanders, now consigned to the attic and only used when I get bored.
Yes, totally agree about being tricky to match. The RS6s dipped to 2.5 ohms and with a low powered amp the whole soundstage can suffer. With the right amp they really spring to life. The Silvers are, IMO, the sweet spot of the MA range. Powered by the Leema it's a real musical hoot!
By contrast, last year I demoed Gold 100 alongside the Dali Rubicon 2 and I was disappointed.
Not sure if you know but MA have taken over the Roksan brand which sounds like a tasty combo, having heard the Kandy K2 with my RS6s.
Yes MAs are fussy to get the best from them. Once you do, though, hang on to your collective hats. 🙂

I am looking at these to replace an old set of B&W 600 series bookshelves. The amp they will be mated to, is the Rotel A11 Tribute, I have yet to listen to them but I know that from what I have heard, they will be a match made in heaven. I don't want to generalize, but I have never had in issue mating Rotel to any British gear.

Thought I'd mention other amps, apart from ones Tarun tested, that work well with MA Silver. I've had my RS6s since 2005 so demoed many. My favs are in no particular order:
Arcam is great, although avoid entry-level models.
    Creek
    Roksan Kandys and Caspians
    Leema Acoustic (for obvious reason)
    Midrange Yamahas
    Audio Analogue.

I tried a MA Silver 50 6th Ed in my system and concur regarding clarity, offering a good combination of detail and resolution for its size. I do not know if the improvements to the 7th gen improved what I didn't like (from memory) such as it sounded like a small speaker its size and could come off a bit dry, still it had attributes I enjoyed. As to getting a smaller version of the MA Silver 100, it was not and probably designed as supporting speakers for the larger lines. The Silver 100 sounded large, heavy dynamic swings with a solid bass with punch. The upper mids and treble could come off as sounding too compressed on the larger speakers though I mostly enjoyed it overall. Not a speaker for late night listening as you will constantly adjust volume, but if one wants a loud performance, the Silver 100s will do that.
As for the smaller 50s, I thought it competent and per the review, the 7th gen likely added some improvements you can hear. The one issue I had with the 6th ed. is that with sibilant passages, while controlled in excessive sss sounds, they chirped...like a bird. Hopefully the issue was fixed in the 7th ed.
I think the comparison to the Dali Menuet SE is fair. For me personally, I preferred the Dali Opticon 1 and Martin Logan 15i over the Silver 50 6th (returned), keeping the two models mentioned. While they may be considered class leading at their price point in clarity, personal preference, equipment matching and room, not to mention source and music come into play. One can prefer somewhat less expensive or more expensive speakers which is why a good listen and comparison is necessary in one's room and equipment.
As to fit and finish, in my experience it is first rate with MA, the speakers look fantastic.

Tarun I am so impressed that your reviews contain comparisons, but what I would like to see is: MA silver 50 vs MA silver 100. What the bigger brother does better and what is missing, or what is a tradeoff for being bigger of the same breed.

I've had MA silvers (a much earlier iteration) for 15 years - I'm not sure whether any DNA has survived into the model reviewed here but I have been very very happy with the sound...periodically I've considered chaning them but have never found anything in a similar price range to justify the switch...they've survived a few amp changes and rewarded small upgrades such as slightly better cable and interconnects (nothing silly). Now they're "part of the family" which demonstrates another aspect of hifi independent of sound quality - I simply love them and probably won't change them although they might migrate to the conservatory from the listening room - if I can find something I like more!

Just another little suggestion. Not sure if these new Silvers are the same as my RS6s, but you should be able to remove the tweeter grille with some blue or whitetak. If you can it slightly improves HF detail

I spent multiple decades working in the audio industry. At a time when things like soundstage, imaging, and recreating the closest experience to a live performance were the desired goals. Unlike today when the average consumer pursues portability and convenience, sound quality is farther down the list of attributes. I must have read 1000's of reviews during those decades and feel I learned one thing. Numerous credible industry-employed reviewers would make comments like, "We hooked up the speakers/equipment to our test equipment and were extremely excited with its performance specifications/test results. But upon conducting our listening test we were immediately disappointed in the sound quality. Oddly, I've never seen someone state, "The specifications were so darned good, I didn't bother to listen. Ultimately, listening is the true test and specifications can be less significant, This is why audiophiles lose credibility with me. Too much emphasis put on numbers on paper. Your comment that you never gave Monitor Audio speakers serious consideration was based on what you had heard "about them" and not what you heard from them. Audiophiles seem to be the group that is harmed most by their echo chamber community. Forging opinions on other people's opinions when they should just take the time to listen.

Pulled the trigger on the oak black Silver 50 g7's. My only concern now is my perfectly working Topping VX1 being a bit on the weak side as a DAC/AMP setup that has no input to add a subwoofer and only 25w/channel (near field listening so low volume most of the time). So far my options for a replacement unit are the loxjie A30 and the NAD 3020(ugly but supposedly sounds great).
