Our Islamic religion is about Sunnah and Quran. Learn about both. Islamic religion is not about imams. Imams are scholars and we highly respect them all but we are not their followers. We are followers of Quran and Sunnah of the prophet.

@@khamissoud2489 The deen of Allah never mentions anything besides the Qur'an, at least from the Qur'an.
It tells us to obey Allah and His Messenger, and we do this by obeying the Message.
Unless someone is able to prove there is an external message additionally given to the Messenger, from the main book which claims to be fully detailed and explained, until then tradition is what the Qur'an denounces the mushriks of old of following blindly, altough of course not all is bad, but an appeal to that by itself is wrong according to the Qur'an.
But i do agree with what you meant, i just go even further, Islam is not about an opinion of a sheikh, nor cannons made after the Qur'an was revealed, it's about, in our case, the Qur'an which was the perfection of the Deen of Allah.
About the sunnah, the word sunnah does occur in the Qur'an, and it only refers to the sunnah of Allah, aka his way, which does not change.
And also something noteworthy, we are told that the Messenger of Allah peace be upon him will say:
      وَقَالَ ٱلرَّسُولُ يَـٰرَبِّ إِنَّ قَوْمِى ٱتَّخَذُوا۟ هَـٰذَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ مَهْجُورًا
And the Messenger will say: “O my Lord: my people took this Qur’an as a thing abandoned.”
      (25:30)
This would be the perfect place, if Sunnis or other sects were correct, for it to say "my people took this Qur'an and my sunnah as things abandoned"
But we only see mention of the Qur'an... that is what people abandoned, and today we see they did, people cover up meanings of the words of the Qur'an by using the so called "Sunnah", most of the time making the Qur'an confusing, when actually it makes total sense once you figure out what the words meant when it was revealed.
A perfect example is Surah Al Fil.
The sectarian interpretation is that the Qur'an, out of nowhere, talks about a story which happened before the Prophet alaihi salam was even born... and includes Elephants making an impossibly long trip on a desert, something practically unhistorical due to the amount of resources that would take to do...
On the other hand, when we take out the cover up, we find that the chapter seems to refer to a story narrated before in the Qur'an, the people of Lut:
      أَلَمْ تَرَ كَيْفَ فَعَلَ رَبُّكَ بِأَصْحَـٰبِ ٱلْفِيلِ
Hast thou not considered how thy Lord did with the companions of one weak in judgment?
      (105:1)
Did He not make their plan go astray?
      (105:2)
And He sent against them flights in droves
      (105:3)
Striking them with stones of baked clay.
      (105:4)
Then He made them like eaten straw.
      (105:5)
And when Our messengers came to Lot, he was distressed for them and straitened with unease for them; and he said: “This is a trying day.”
      (11:77)
And his people came to him, hastening towards him; and before had they been doing evil deeds. He said: “O my people: these are my daughters; they are purer for you. So be in prudent fear of God, and disgrace me not concerning my guests. Is then there not among you a right-minded man?”
      (11:78)
They said: “Thou knewest we have no right to thy daughters; and thou knowest what we desire.”
      (11:79)
He said: “Would that I had power against you, or could take shelter in a strong support!”
      (11:80)
Said they: “O Lot: we are messengers of thy Lord; they will not reach thee. And travel thou with thy household during a portion of the night; and let not any one of you turn around save thy wife - there will befall her what befalls them. Their appointment is the morning; is then the morning not near?”
      (11:81)
And when Our command came, We utterly overthrew it, and rained upon it stones of baked clay, piled up in layers,
      (11:82)
      Something to research more.
But yes, i leave the translation i used here:
      reader.quranite.com/verses/chapters?chapter=105
And a reminder, believers have always been a minority, rare exceptions happened but often we see only a minority takes heed when a warner comes.
And the Sunnah of Allah does not change, is a warner comes to a people, and the majority rejects, that place is destroyed...
Sorry if this is long, but i appreciated the attitude, and i just wanted to open up this for you.
(I don't know how you will react tbh, but just know my intention is to find the truth no matter what it is, this was in fact why i came to revert to Islam to begin with, so even if we disagree, we may have a normal conversation, not debate like like people are used to, although i can defend myself in sha Allah)
      Take care.
      Peace

Agree with you music is a double edged sword and just like a knife which can be used to cut food or to cut another human, music too in the right context is relaxing and uplifting but like you say sadly most modern music is very corrupting in what it endorses and the behaviours it encourages and how it manipulates an individual, same goes for film media. You find the ultimate expression of this in the rubbish that hollywood produces

Excellent point it is very similar to what I have heard other Muslim scholars say about music. One said to outright blanket all music as haram makes as much sense as blanketing all food as haram or all liquid as haram. The type of content that one you consumes through the mouth, through the eyes, and through the ears matters.

Music is definitely haram.. I use to listen a lot… every kind… and music definitely influences many… I remember driving and listening to music and the next thing you know I’m doing 90 and just be lost and really into what I was listening, that if a car suddenly came to a stop… I would have not had no time to react…. I use sleep to listening to music love songs… which made me sad and i didn’t know because I was maybe 12 or so…. Or songs or raps with very sexual lyrics…. That made you feel a certain way…. And I would sneak and listen to music, because it was not allowed in our home, even though my parents didn’t speak English or understand they definitely saw changes in me and not good ones… either I was sad or I was angry or i would fix myself up and be all feelin myself as a teenager and would get the feeling to go for walks,,, because i would get this intense feeling that was overwhelming taking over my mind…. To where in school if you would have to know certain artists or lyrics…. And yes as a teenager you want to fit in… so you sneak out and everywhere you go there is music…. If you’re at a party and the music is rowdy…. The crowd will be rowdy…. If it’s sexual… then two or three guys dancing grinding on one girl… or two… kids memories lyrics in one sitting…. But can’t memorize a test answer….. so absolutely music is very dangerous….. and haram…. Yeah people can say… ohhh this song is harmless it’s just a love story…. But emotionally it’s effecting you… or a rap artist or alternative artist is talking about taking pills and feeling good…. This is very haram…. No matter what music you listen to it affects you mentally and emotionally and sometimes physically….. you know when you get a song stuck in your head for days… well that’s exactly what music does… sometimes the wrong one can get stuck…. And you want to go after your ex or someone you like or someone you don’t like or go harm yourself…. This is something that people try to say no it’s not haram but really it is…. I can’t stand any music anymore… sometimes I’ll get tempted and somehow I find myself listening to some old school music…. And I don’t know what caused me to… but then it turns into a marathon… and you get stuck in that zone before you realize you just listen to about 8 hours of music because now and days one song ends and you get another suggestion based on what you were just listening to and you say ohhh man this really takes me back… and your mind goes into memories maybe some happy times maybe some sad times…. And you say to yourself… where did the time go…. Well most of your time went into countless hours of listening to something that has you in a roller coaster with your emotions…. Anyways this is my opinion…

Why is there NEVER a clear answer of IS MUSIC HARAM OR NOT? No one is talking about specific “popular” aspects of music we obviously know is negative, WHO CARES ABOUT CERTAIN POPULAR ASPECTS OF MUSIC; IS MUSIC ITSELF HARAM OR NOT? I gave up playing music, primarily guitar because I thought it was clear cut prohibited and wanted to do right by our Lord and His Messenger but this is insanely hard to tell in a religion boasting to be soo “clear” when those who are supposed to have some authority to dictate Islam’s teachings obscure it themselves! IF I AS A MUSLIM, PLAY MY OWN MUSIC OR LISTEN TO THAT OF OTHER MUSLIMS LIKE CAT STEVENS(BRO YUSEF), NEVER LOSING SITE OF ALLAH ALMIGHTY BUT GLORIFY HIM AND APPRECIATE THE TALENT GIVEN BY HIM TO BE ABLE TO PLAY MUSIC AS PROPHET DAWOOD REPORTEDLY DID IS IT HARAM OR NOT? If so why, and how is it that “scholars” themselves differ on such things that should be “clear” or else they shouldn’t be putting their opinions on things?!! Astaghfirullah!😳🤦🏻‍♂️🙄/👌✌️🤲☝️🤔

The mentions of music have been a bit vague. I'm a revert and a composer, so it was really hard for me when I heard people saying that it was fully forbidden.
However, Islam does promote the use of reason. What I noticed was every time somebody talked about music being Haram, I only heard critiques on pop music, promoting everything a muslim shouldn't do.
My music does not look for that, I use my music to talk about social issues, to be thought provoking and enrich the spirit. Now Alhamdulillah, I make music inspired by everything Allah has given me, and what I have learned from Islam.
I live in Puerto Rico where most people are disbelievers or christians (however most people don't apply their religious values)
And after listening closely to the popular music I understood.
There are people talking about how great they are, the drugs they take, how many people they kill, and thank God IN THE SAME SONG.
Even when I was a disbeliever I thought this was incredibly disrespectful. To God and to the people who actually take religion seriously.
So I agree with what is said in the video. Allah created a complex world with a lot of nuance, so I find it understandable that the answer is not black and white.
I remain a composer, but the hard work I put into music is no longer for my gratification. It is for Allah and to spread a good message among the corrupted music that sadly most people listen to.
      Hope my perspective helps!

Music is not prohibited in Al Islam. You mentioned alcohol as a gradual weening, not so. When it was revealed as prohibited Muslims had to stop. It is true some Muslims did indulge, But that’s not the point. For sure not all music is the same, and Islamic societies have been shaped by scholars and other prominent muslim personalities, But haram is determined by a clear voice, from Allah and is Prophets. It’s a humane condition like any other, to be used in various ways. To say it is prohibited is not tenable.

So... according to the Sunnis, Shiites & Sectarians the number of raka'a in maghrib prayer is definitively known!
And how did this become _"definitively known?_
    NO DIFFERENCE IN OPINION!
    Whose opinion?
Beyond any shadow of doubt, the *raka'a* of the ritual prayers are nothing more than mere OPINIONS of humans who were born hundreds of years after the demise of the prophet!
Beyond any shadow of doubt the religion of the Sunnis, Shiites & Sectarians are based on the OPINIONS of their revered religious scholars, who themselves were born hundreds of years AFTER the demise of the prophet!
Beyond any shadow of doubt the religion of the Sunnis, Shiites & Sectarians have absolutely nothing to do with the Islam of the Quran!
Beyond any shadow of doubt, the concept of *"raka'a* is NOWHERE to be found in the Quran.
So, it is beyond any shadow of doubt the issue of music being haram is ONLY applicable to the worshipers of the religion invented by the Sunni, Shiite & Sectarian scholars.

According to the Hadiths and Quran it is haram. The ayat talks about people who purchase false tails and the tafsir of the ayat reveals this relates to singing.
Even our predecessors, Christians, Jews, in their own book music is marked haram. Instruments were called tools of the devil. In the New Testament it says sign the praises of your lord not play a rock ensemble.
Our Hadiths talk about the prophet Sheeth and look at what happened there. Find a video talking about that prophet and you will change your mind about music.

Doesn't seem too complicated. All music is not the same, nor conforms to negative stereotypes.
Clearly music content that lacks character, morality, etc. is haram.
Also, playing personally enjoyable, or even inspiring, music aloud publicly can clearly be a problem for those who may not wish to hear it or resonate with it.
Point well made about judging its value by the mood altering effect that it has.
