What a beautiful idea. I have too many projects on the go at the moment, but I may do this at a later date. We have a super king size bed so may have to go larger 🤩
I completely understand! I think it will be a good one, whenever you can get to it. And you'll have plenty of others to see to guide your fabric choices! Check the measurements because you may be fine with the 'bed' size for a super king. It's significantly bigger than my king size bed!
I've never made a quilt but have now signed up for the newsletter so thats the first bit done, thanks for this as its something I have been very intimidated by
It can be very intimidating! Hopefully just tackling one step at a time will help you feel more confident about it. This is definitely a beginner friendly pattern and we are here to help if you get stuck too!
If you've sewn garments, honestly, a quilt is easy street! Especially this one, all straight lines, very systematic, no muslins or fitting involved. You've got this!!
Hi Theresa. I'm in. I've been digging through my stash for fabrics. At first I had in mind to use light-colored prints. But they didn't have enough zip when laid out together in 4-patch rectangles and picking the framework color was challenging. Then I thought of a batik strip set I bought years ago that was called Fireside (earth tones). But they also didn't really shine in the modern pattern. I like that you are using colors counter to what looks good for garments. That's why I tried the light colors and pastels first. But I'm ending up with my usual palette. So my strip set is deep saturated colors and the framework will be an earth-tone stripe. My quilt will be for my husband's side of our king-size bed. I got tired of waking up freezing cold with no blankets while my husband was snoring warm and comfy, with most of the rest of the blankets pooled on the floor below his side of the bed. My solution was to have common fitted sheets but separate top bedding, including comforter/quilts. Now he wakes up cold and all his blankets are on the floor while I'm the one nice and toasty if he keeps pulling the blankets toward the edge of the bed. Another advantage is that it is a lot easier to wash separate smaller comforters/quilts individually instead of the huge and heavy-when-wet king-size quilt. My husband is very picky about dimensions, so I'm thinking he will want about 4 feet by 7 feet for the size of the quilt (not too wide so he has less chance of the quilt hanging over enough to slide to the floor easily). I'm not on Instagram so will send periodic photos via e-mail. Thank you and Sarah for doing this and upping the quotient of fun this summer (and winter for Sarah), Antonia
I'm really excited to see the colors. They sound beautiful! You've got a great plan, and I'm sure your husband will love it. We would love to see photos along the way, so please do send them on!!
This sounds like a lot of fun. I’ve never made a quilt as I don’t think I can sew that neatly but I want to give this a go. I love that it’s jelly rolls and straight lines and a free pattern. I’m really interested in seeing what everyone makes. Thanks Theresa and Sarah for organising the Quilt Along.
The beauty of quilts is in the irregularities (in my opinion, anyway!). When you wash it and the fabric bunches up, I don't think you'd ever know the difference. So glad to hear that you're planning on joining in!! Good luck and have fun!
This will be a lot of fun! I adore Ruby Star Society quilting fabrics, and I’ve already got a quilt on the go using one of their layer cakes…..my 1st one in fact. I love the one that you have chosen Teresa.
Thank you so much, Marion! The colors are so beautiful. I often admire Ruby Star Society from afar with my garment sewing. I've occasionally used their fabrics for garments, but I feel like they really shine on a quilt. I hope your first quilt is going well - a gateway into a new hobby!
This is such perfect timing - a couple of weeks ago I decided to make a quilt for my brother’s bub on the way, but didn’t know where to start! Love this pattern, super excited to get started! Thank you!
Super excited to make my first quilt with you ladies 🎉 I have a granddaughter who will be moving out of her cot and into a bed pretty soon…..perfect timing 😊
I'm soooooo excited for this! I actually bought a jelly roll for this pattern sometime last year but haven't gotten around to making it. This is the perfect opportunity 🥰
I watched this video because I watch all your videos, with no intention of joining in. However...you guys were so fun together and so inspiring I'm now off to measure my bed, look for jelly rolls and download the pattern!! Looking forward to joining in with this fun project 😀
Oh I think I’m going to have to quilt along with you ladies! Hubby asked for a new quilt for our bed at the summer house and this might be the push I need to get it done. This should be fun!!
I will be participating. I will be making a twin size quilt for my daughter. She picked out the fabric (jelly roll) from Missouri Star's website. I am looking forward to it.
Oh, how awesome! Twin size sounds really manageable. It will also be a quilt that she can have and cherish forever. I'd love to see which fabrics you chose!
This is fantastic! I started cutting up scraps to make this the other week then get distracted with garment sewing. Thankyou for a great opportunity to keep going at my first quilt!
Ahhh lovely ladies! ❤ Loved this intro vlog. So professional! I’ll be following along vicariously as you sew the quilts up! They’ll be amazing I’m sure!
Ladies! I'm so excited to see this! I am definitely going to join in. If any of your Aussie participants fancy having their quilts longarmed, I just so happen to know a girl...! 😉😏💙
Yesssss! So delighted to have you on board. You're another one who will probably fly through this one and be waiting for the rest of us to catch up. Haha! And I've been seriously impressed and mesmerised by your long arming. What a fantastic skill to have!
@@LostMyThread It's so fun and exciting! A longtime dream come true. 🥰 And I just may have a jelly roll (or six!) in my stash that will work perfectly for this quilt. 💙
Hi ladies. Well, I’ve downloaded the pattern already 😊 Not sure if I’ll be able to quilt along as per the schedule but I’ve added this project to my long list and I will definitely be following along the vlogs to see everyone’s progress. Shopping for a jelly roll next then……..this doesn’t count as breaking my summer fabric shopping ban, does it 🤔🤣 Interesting collaboration ❤ looking forward to seeing how everyone gets on.
Yay Alison! I’m firmly in the camp of “if the finished item is for the home, the money comes from a separate budget”! Definitely not breaking your fabric buying ban in my eyes 😉.
Haha, I think garment fabric is absolutely it's own thing! I think we're all in agreement that homeware items are too practical to fit into such bans. Please share photos with us once you've picked your jelly rolls!
This is a great idea - I’m definitely considering joining you. I signed up to a monthly subscription quilting box as a Christmas present to myself and then in Feb the company folded 😫. Thanks again ladies ❤
Somehow, I missed this one when it came out. I'm looking forward to following the collab and seeing how your quilts turn out. When I started sewing about a year ago, making a quilt wasn't really on my radar. I think they're beautiful, but it just wasn't my focus. Well, that's changed. Earlier this year, someone else I follow started a quilt along for a quilt as you go project, which really felt approachable to me, and just happened to be the perfect use for a small bundle of fat eighths that my mother-in-law gifted me during Christmas. So, now I'm looking at making a quilt. I wish I could do all the projects and felt ready to do this quilt along, though who knows, perhaps I'll fall to temptation. It's a great pattern, and I love that because it's so straightforward, the fabrics will really take the focus and determine how it feels aesthetically when it's completed. If I don't join in the making, I'll certainly be in the cheering section. 🙂
I think we need to come to all of these things in our own time. I probably wouldn't want to make dozens of quilts in a row, but it can be a nice break from garment sewing. You get different things from it! Don't worry if you aren't able to join in this time. We appreciate our cheerleaders. Please do share this quilt with me and Sarah if you ever decide to make one, one day. And thank you for your lovely comment!
@@LostMyThread I was surfing Instagram and saw your stories, and checked the hashtag, and it gave me a big case of FOMO. Not sure when, or what I'll start with, yet, but I do know that I'm making my husband a Standing Tall throw. His favorite color is green, and I know have in my possession a jelly roll full of lovely light to dark greens. Not sure what the background will be, but I'm going to make him go shopping with me to choose that. Everyone's quilts are going to be so beautiful.
@@callitags it sounds like you're most of the way there! I'm really looking forward to seeing the quilts come together. The variety has been fantastic!
I’ve got a jelly roll and an old duvet cover for the backing but I’m in Last Sewist Standing so can’t buy the batting yet. Seriously considering asking Mr CG for batting for my wedding anniversary gift in August 😂
Ooh, you're certainly most of the way there! It sounds like it was meant to be. I agree with Sarah, I think a lovely quilt for your shared bed is a suiting anniversary gift!! Maybe not the anniversary gift you had in mind, but one that will eventually be something to share.
Great idea - haven't thought of making a quilt but maybe I will think about it. I'm sorry but I have to ask - are your hands green? Or is it just the camera?
No way!! I'm sure that I found my Art Gallery ones listed on a fabric website under 'jelly rolls'. It seems to be a commonly used term, even if incorrectly. Looking now, some sites talk about 'Moda jelly rolls' and 'fabric strips', but some are outright calling them all 'jelly rolls'. I'm guessing that Moda have the copyright on the term, but it certainly seems like the quilting community has taken that name on. Good to know!
This could be a great scrap buster if you had a stash of 2.5 strips. This is going on my bucket list ❤❤❤❤
Absolutely!! It's a great design. I hope you enjoy making it, whenever you do!
