David, thanks for this great video.
    It presents several personal challenges:
1 your playing is so awesome I forget to pay attention to the different riqs
    2. I have a Cooperman riq like this one, so that sound is what is in my ear--hard to displace it with other sounds
    3. Everyone wants a Kevork, but no one can seem to get one
I also have your riq DVD, which is wonderful

Really nice chops, some really nice Riqs too! I got my first Cooperman Riq today, but I ended up with one of their hybrid models. (I bought it used, locally. They don't come up for sale very often...) It came with several sets of zils of different materials and thicknesses, which was kind of nice! It sounds great, I just hope I can play it like a regular Riq...

Thanks for sharing this info. I was frustrated not knowing what to buy. I just bought a Glen Velez Remo but is too heavy for me. It could be a good idea to add the weight info of the tambourines in the video. Have you thought about doing this for other types of frame drums?

Lightest good quality riq is Lev Elman not featured in this vid ... Eli Huli is not to heavy but expensive ... kevork have differnt weights ... these three plus norbert eckermann are best riqs around , cooperman riq sound good but uncmfortable to hold

this is a great instrument. To me bongos have too much tonality/flavor and can dominate a mix and tambourines don't have enough richness and are kind of generic. And this is a great percussive instrument that sort of strikes a balance. I know that's a kind of white/eurocentric perspective, but for whatever it's worth I think the Riq is great.

For me the riq resembles the Brazilian pandeiro in that balance, what a lovely family of instruments
