Album: For Trane
Name: Violets For Your Furs
Cause I bought you violets for your furs
And it was spring for a while
Remember I bought you violets for your furs
And there was april in that december
The snow drifted on the flowers and melted where it lay
The snow looked like dew on the blossoms
As on a summer day
Yes I bought you violets for your furs
And there was blue in the wintry sky
You pinned the violets to your furs
And gave a lift to the crowds passing by
You smiled at me so sweetly
Since then one thought occurs
That we fell in love completely
The day I bought you violets for your furs - Видеоклипы
Johny Hartman is too good for the average listener....not commercial enough...he is I feel the best jazz male singer ever......and yet most people have never heard of him! That's life in America...where idiots who can barely carry a tune make millions...and true gifted artists barely make ends meet!
@Steve Williams anche da noi, quí in Italy. Ma non importa, chi sà ascoltare non ha bisogno di classifiche.
Preach brother. I've made that exact rant. Even in the quizzing/jeopardy community of which i am a part i complain of too much emphasis on pop music and LGBTQ not enough on the unsung great Jazz artists. Some other great lesser known artists: Louis Smith/Stardust, Blue Mitchell/Ill Close My Eyes, Etta JONES/The More I See You & There Are Such Things, Beverly Kenney/It's A Most Unusual Day. Some of the more well known artists i enjoy for their rich tone and lyrical qualities are Dexter Gordon, Clifford Brown, Bill Evans, Vince Guaraldi and Kenny Barron
and it occurs with our leaders too, eh?
Super voice highly underated!
A new song for me! And sung by the great JH!
Johnny, Johnny, Johnny....I saw you many times..but, not nearly ..enough...and then you were gone....
He was always really balanced. Perfect arrangements mixed with his voice. Coltrane chose him for his record in 1963 because both they had the same silky approach to ballads. They seem to breath in the same way. Great!
the song which hartman's first gift to my ears. then we never seperated
the greatest jazz vocalist .
Thank You Johnny Hartman - You Made Being In Love Wonderful....Forever......Thank You!
AllMusic Review by Scott Yanow
This CD combines together parts of two sessions recorded in Tokyo by the warm ballad singer Johnny Hartman. Although titled For Trane, the vocal recital only has three songs associated with John Coltrane ("My Favorite Things," "Violets for Your Furs," and "Nature Boy") and the majority of the selections are actually taken from an unrelated session in which Hartman was matched with trumpeter Terumasa Hino. The music alternates between ballads ("Violets for Your Furs" and "The Nearness of You" are high points) and swingers and, although Hartman does not really improvise, his voice (still in its prime at the time) is appealing. Considering his slim discography, Johnny Hartman's fans will definitely want this one.
Beautiful with Johnny Hartman.❤️
well said, I agree totally. thank you.
Damn wish i could sing bass. Like him.
Recorded 01 December 1972 in Tokyo. Composers are Matt Dennis and Tom Adair from 1941. Reissue producer was the late, great Michael Cuscuna. Issued on CD as Blue Note CDP 7243 8 35346 2 3 or BMG Direct Marketing D 104095.

The girl in the red dress approaches the man and asks:
- I'm late?
- Two minutes.
- Forgive me?
- For the delay?
- No, the gun pointed at her belly.
- Um ... I realize that you are the type that goes straight to the point.
- I do not like wasting my time.
- Only at the clock.
- Are you always so sarcastic before you die?
- I do not know, this is the first time that hill.
- Brought the envelope?
- Yes
- Where is it?
- In my room.
- And why you left there?
- I thought the night would have a bit of pleasure before business.
- And what made you think that?
- First the environment, then the music and finally the three glasses of whiskey I ever made.
- Paid?
- No. I think I'll let my death and these doses into your account.
- Because this conviction that will even die?
- Change your mind?
- No, but I can only be bluffing.
BANG! BANG!
- Never bluff with an armed man. Friend, ta here ... can keep the change and call the IML.
