  • This is an HP Elite 8300 desktop computer. Spec is i7 3770 cpu, 16gb 1600mhz ram, ssd, hdd and AMD Firepro 4100 2gb graphics card.
I ran Heaven and Valley reporting back on the results (sorry for sound reduction at this stage). Games I test are Crysis, Fifa 2018, Forza 4 and Fortnite. This machine will also run the less demanding games such as Valorant, Team Fortress 2 and Zula at decent frame rates. Please post a comment if you have any queries.

I have used these for opnsense. Add a network card or two, maybe a cheap ssd. The lenovo ones refuse to boot freebsd in uefi mode, but work in legacy bios mode.

Hi! Did you encounter any issues while upgrading to 3770? I got the same HP Compaq 8300 Elite with i5 3470, requested to be upgraded to i7 3770. There are 2 Samsung DDR3 1600MHz 4GB RAM sticks, working fine. After I swapped to 3770 it turned out that the system boots with only 1 of them plugged - no matter which one, no matter to which slot it is plugged. If you plug both (no matter which combnation - A-slots, B-slots, A+B slots), is does not boot - black screen with 5 short beeps (RAM issue). Switched back to i5 to exclude possible socket damage or dusting - it perfectly boots with 2 sticks of RAM. Did you make any specific settings? Though, I guess, it is not much to be changed in HP BIOS.

Hi, check the available bios updates. Sometimes one is needed for added cpu support. I cannot recall if it was this one or another hp (I no longer have this machine), but a bios update was needed. Update the bios in increments until the problem is resolved. If the os is windows 10 there are no bios files but the ones for windows 7 will be fine.

@@computerrefurbishment9748 Hi, thanks for your reply. BIOS was already updated with no seeming result. I left the PC idle for several days, then 2 additional RAM sticks (that I ordered before) arrived, I plugged them and the machine just booted without any issue:) I even extracted the new sticks and checked if it was able to boot with the older ones - yep, it was OK too. Not sure what was the cause of such behavior and whether the issue was somehow "cured" with filling all 4 slots, but it seems to be OK now. Anyway, thanks for your help!

@@andrewerohin2459 Hi no worries glad all sorted! On the subject of ram, don't forget to use windows own memory test tool.

As far as i know the 3770 only supports 1.5V RAM as some articles suggest online. If those 2 RAM sticks were not a dual channel kit they may have different CAS latency and the voltage could differ even if they have the same speed and capacity. Still, these OEM motherboards are still weird but at least you managed to sort it out. Also you could have cleared the CMOS and be sure the battery is good. I serviced a couple of these computers and they will behave really weird if there's no CMOS battery or if it's very low on voltage. HPs and Dells sometimes go nuts because of it

Hey what about the final zones in fortnite, does it still maintain the frames.. Or do you notice stuttering?

Hi, I did not have time to try that far into the game. I would say cap fps to 30 and put all settings to low. Might be ok. If I get a similar build will try it and report back as I no longer have this one.

The GPU causes a bottleneck to the PC. I recommend changing it to a GTX 1050Ti LP.

Good point but at the time that gpu was out of the budget assigned. The firepro should be fine for games like zula, paladins, valorant, team fortress 2. Possibly fortnite on minimal settings. Older games will be ok. Even Doom 3 from 2004 still looks great!
