    I've spent a week trying to figure out what was wrong with my device. Turns out this was the issue. I was even using an OS linked from the main site, it apparently just isn't supported on these newer models. Thanks!!

    Thanks for the comments Peter. There is a third memory manufacturer that will be used in the near future and it could result in similar issues. One to watch out for if you purchase any more units !

    Hello, I don't know if you are still reading this, but my PI 3 B suddenly stop working.
    I was using raspbian (normaly) and I used the OS shutdown button (since Raspberry don't have a "logic shutdown", just to see the difference. Since this, it never booted again. I've tried using noobs and even another sd card, but the green light doesn't blink, its always off.

    Thanks, the link on the Quick Start guide just refers to the downloads section on the Raspberry Pi site rather than a specific distribution but I understand your point.

    Hi I’m new to the PI and it worked fine, I set up the wifi
    and the mouse and key board worked fine so I ran the updates and that worked
    fine. So today I went to install a camera on the pi and before I did anything I
    noticed the wifi does not work no mouse
    or key board and when I reboot the pi when the config is streaming with all the
    lines that say “ok” one is in red and states “failed” but it streams to fast to
    read what has failed. Do you have any suggestions?

  • @doublehaven
    @doublehaven  11 лет назад

    Hi, if the Pi starts up and runs then shuts down it may be a hardware issue. This is a problem that affects a very small number of units. If you have one of these it will randomly shut down to the red light only but readily re-start on removal and reconnection of the power supply. However a common problem is also that the power supply in use is not sufficient when under load and that can cause the same issue so please try another known good one before returning.

    That's good news.There is a difference in the boot code for the two chips and the latest version of Raspbian Wheezy that you have works with both the Samsung and Hynix versions.I haven't tried it but I think you could probably replace the bootcode on Occidentalis with the one that works with Hynix chips.There is some reference to this process on the Raspberry Pi website.

    I checked the SD card, it wasn't working anymore. So I got a new one, and formatted RaspBMC on it. It worked perfectly. I guess the SD card broke. Oh well. I'm happy it's working again! And no worries about replying so late it's fine.

    Thanks for your positive comments ! The information was released on various Twitter feeds and on the Raspberry Pi site under the heading of "Public Service Announcement" after we noticed an increase in returns. The usual problem is that someone already has a working Pi and swaps the card into the new hardware, it doesn't boot and they believe it to be faulty.

    I got a raspberry pi 2 B+ with a lexar 16GB microsd. I extracted raspbian in there and everything. It still won't turn on.
    The LEDs are both solid.
    What do I do?

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  8 лет назад

      Hi, it will likely be either a software, SD card or power supply issue. Please ensure that you power the Pi through the micro USB socket, preferably with the official power supply. If you read the thread below several people have had similar issues. The Pi is very rarely at fault.

    Hi doublehaven, i bought a rasberry pi starter kit from komplett.no.
    I've double checked and done the installing of both noob and wheezy two times.
    Ive tried different HDMI cables, different TV's, also tried the video cable output, tried pressing 1 2 3 4 on all of this setups, tried a different SD card with both noob and wheezy. Ive tried using a cellphone charger just to see if it runs too. I've tried using a HDMI to DVI converter and tried that on a monitor.
    Nothing appears. What can i do? :(

    Hello, I need help! I just bought my RPi 3 and tried connecting it to my laptop using a lan cable. But, the problem is my pi is not being recognised by the PUTTY. Also, upon the start only the red led is on. I thought it could be because of the improper installation of NOOBS on the sd card and so i formatted it and reinstalled NOOBS several times but the situation is still the same. I also used 3 to 4 power supplies but still of no use. Can you please suggest what can be done..

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  8 лет назад

      Hi, a red light alone indicates it is not booting. The Pi should not be directly connected to another computer through the LAN port, it needs to go through a hub or switch (unless you have a special cable that is crossed over).
      Have you extracted all the zip files to the card in exactly the same file structure, this is a common problem ? Also some SD cards don't work with the Pi, a list of compatible ones can be found by a Google search. Power supplies are another problem area and I always recommend the official power supply. It costs a fraction of the price of a Pi but is dedicated to the job.

    • @ravis176
      @ravis176 8 лет назад +1

      Hi, thanks for your help! I figured problem was with the power supply indeed. I ordered the official one so everything should be OK hopefully.

    Hello. I'm seeming to have some trouble with my raspberry pi 3 b+. When ever i put my retropie card in only the red light will come on. But when i slide in my raspbian card I get the green light but no picture. Could you please help me out?

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  7 лет назад

      Hi, looks like one card is booting but the other not. If the green light is flickering it's a good sign the Pi is running. I have seen units that boot but have no HDMI output in the past. Although rare it is possible. I would try a different display if you have one and don't discount a faulty lead, again rare but possible.

  • @doublehaven
    @doublehaven  11 лет назад

    Thanks, but please be aware that even with an approved card that some combinations of hardware are not compatible which is why I suggested that you try a different card if possible. Are you 100% sure of the power supply because this is a common issue. Are there any LEDS lit at all and if so is there a pattern that they flash in ? If you do decide to return for replacement please can you refer to this conversation in the paperwork and I will feed back what I find.

    hey. My raspberry pi 3 model b was working about 2 hours ago and unboxed it 2 days ago.
    I got this for my B-day and I'm really disappointed.
    what do think that happened? and do you have a solution?

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  7 лет назад

      Hi, you don't say if there are any LEDs on or not but if the unit had been working failure through normal use is unlikely. Normally it's either a power supply issue or SD card not inserted correctly or corrupted. I only recommend the official power supply as it's specifically designed for the Pi3.

  • @doublehaven
    @doublehaven  11 лет назад

    Hi, apologies for not getting back to you sooner. It sounds like you may have a hardware issue that has developed over time but could you please try burning a new image onto your card because we have seen instances of file corruption that will result in the problem you describe. The power supply is also a common issue but you say that you have tried alternatives.

    Hi!
    My pi wont boot.
    only the red light is on, and nothing is blinking.
    i put all the NOOBS files on my PI
    (raspberry pi 3 model b)
    im using hdmi to my smart tv as a screen output
    my phone charger as a power source
    my gopro sd card (32gb ultra)
    ethernet cabble.
    what is going on?

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  8 лет назад +1

      Hi Bas, make sure the files are unzipped before you copy them across. Just copying them wont work. As you have a Pi3 a phone charger is not recommended, power supplies are a common reason for no boot and the reason there is an official power supply for this version. Most problems are either software or power supply related.

    • @BasDeBlock

      Hi! i found the problem! i used an extension cord on my charger because it wont reach my desk, but when i just plug it in the wall it works! thankyou!

      do you know how i can dual booth Rasbian and RetroPie?

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  8 лет назад

      Hi, that's good I thought it may be power supply related. I haven't run a dual boot system in the way you describe as normally I just swap the SD cards over but have a look at Berryboot which may do the job. The new Raspbian Pixel is out now and looks very nice.

      D0C H0L1D4Y The best way is to download and install NOOBS onto an SD card and boot it from that. As the Pi doesn’t have an operating system it doesn’t do much without and you can’t tell if it’s good or bad. Good luck :0)

      D0C H0L1D4Y I always use the SD Card Association formatter. It’s a free download if you search for it. Then download the NOOBS from the RaspberryPi site and copy all files across to the card and follow the instructions on the site to complete.

    Hi, just got my Pi, it's a B+ but I'm unable to boot. The red and green led stay on and are bright. Formatted my SD card using the sd card formatter. I tried the raspbian image. How do I make it boot?

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  10 лет назад

      Hi, normally when power is connected the red LED will flash momentarily and the green led will start to flicked as the Pi boots.I have never seen a case where the red and green LEDs stay on continuously.The two areas to check first are the power supply, make sure it is connected through the Micro USB connector and you are not attempting to power the Pi any other way. Also try installing Raspian from the NOOBS front end.

    Dear doublehaven,
    red light, green light. Connected HDMI, Wi-Fi dongle, Mouse, keyboard and SD card from Kingston for 32 GB. Installed NOOBS once and didn't work, then formatted and burnt Raspbian to the SD - didn't work, then formatted the disk and reinstalled NOOBS...still doesn't work.
    I also used multiple HDMIs, multiple screens and tried plugging the apple block with cable from my Samsung phone...also in Raspbian I tried putting in Config "HDMI hotplug something or whatever"...nothing works...

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  8 лет назад

      +Wonderful emir Hi, have you tried booting without the wi-fi dongle present ? Also I have found that some mice and keyboards can stop a Pi from booting. If the Pi boots the green led will flicker like a HDD light on a PC. Power supplies are very critical, almost always I find that software, SD cards or power supplies are the issue with sometimes the keyboard, mouse or other accessories plugged into USB causing the issue. The chances of getting a faulty Pi now are very low but it is of course still possible. Good luck :0)

    (Raspbery Pi Model B+) While I feel like I know the problem, I want some input. So, today I was messing around with some Pi's hoping to set-up some servers, I simply plugged in my Pi and when I noticed it wasn't starting I went to touch it, I touched the SD card and got electrocuted. Shortly after smoke was coming from my Pi so I unplugged it. I had 2 other Pi's so I plugged them in with a new SD Card freshly formatted with an img. Both booted up, this one here will power on but it can't seem to read the SD Card. I'm suspecting that there is something on the Pins or the SD Card reader itself is fried. However, it doesn't turn on unless an SD Card is in so I'm assuming it knows it's there but can't read correctly. Can anyone shed light on this subject?

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  8 лет назад

      Hi, from what you describe the power supply you are using could be faulty as there is no way it should be possible to receive an electric shock from the Pi. The Pi will not boot without an SD card as the image holds the operating system.

    • @ZeSquare
      @ZeSquare 8 лет назад

      My other two Pi's work just fine, anyways I've figured it out already. The MicroSD Slot was completely fried. Pi is useless to me now sadly. T'was a long journey though, it's been through quite a bit haha.

    Hi, I have no experience of the Sandisk SD card you have, it is possible that this is the reason your Pi won't boot, not all SD cards work with the Pi. Do you have any other cards available you can try and did you unzip NOOBS before installing it on the card ? This is a common mistake.

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  10 лет назад

      Hello Lander. If you have a Pi with a Micron memory chip it is important that you use the very latest version of NOOBS. Older versions may not work. Most no-boot problems are related to the software or SD card in use and sometimes the power supply. If you have a kit the supplier of that should provide support for replacement of the Pi if required.

I make sure to turn on the TV first aswell as to put it on HDMI 1 before powering on the pi ,yet nothing, I know I could go on o the card to write down some codes but I can't do that my sdcard does not let me access the OS because it is locked as I said I need help please :'( , I haven't been able to use my pi

      +RagnarokGaming Hi, this sounds like an issue with either the SD card or software as if the lights are staying solid the Pi is not booting. The card should not be locked down, I don't understand why this should be. It is unlikely the Pi would be the issue.

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  10 лет назад

      Hi, it could be that either the software is not installed correctly, the card is not compatible with the Pi or the power supply in use is not sufficient. It could also be that the devices plugged into the USB ports are causing the issue. Are there any LEDS on at all and are they steady or blinking ?

    • @alexanderhardjo1238
      @alexanderhardjo1238 10 лет назад

      Thanks for responding. Btw, what I put in to my sd card was NOOBS_v1_3_7 as the instructions told me to. The SD card should not be an issue because I already checked for the compatibility of it. When I inserted my SD card, PWR and ACT LED were blinking. PWR LED kept on while ACT LED was blinking then it was off. And nothing happened after that, the screen remained black.

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  10 лет назад

      Hi, the NOOBS version should work so a few other suggestions. Did you unzip the files first before copying them to the SD card ? Another thing to try is a different operating system like RaspBMC that comes with its own installer. You write the installer to the SD card and boot the Pi whilst connected to the internet and it sorts itself out. That will eliminate a hardware issue.

It is a possibility that the latest NOOBS does not work with all combinations reliably and further investigation is needed. Thanks

    Hi I have found it increasingly difficult to get raspberry pi customer suport. Today my Raspberry pi 2 came in everything in the box looked in order so I downloaded noobie and put it onto my formatted as recommended sandisk ultra 32 gigabyte. I rested it on the static plastic plugged it into my computer monitor with my hdmi plugged it in and nothing showed it was just blank. Both the power and act lights were one solid color and nothing was happening. someone please help.

      Noobs needs to be downloaded and unzipped to the SD card. I haven't used a card of the size you have with I Pi2 so don't know if there are any compatibility issues. Look at these aspects first and that you have the Pi2 compatible version of the software. To have a Pi2 faulty out of the box is extremely rare.

      doublehaven I unziped the file I have even tried plane noobs lite. After that I tried the Sandisk Ultra plus of the same size, and it still hasn't worked.

      I just checked and can confirm that if the red and green LEDs are on the Pi is not booting for whatever reason. It will do this even if there is no SD card fitted. Have you checked your power supply and anything plugged into the USB ports is not affecting it ? How are you powering the unit ? It is possible you have a DOA unit but as I said this is extremely rare so eliminate everything else first.

      Hi, firstly do you have and LEDs lit and what type of power supply are you using ? Also if you have a Pi with a Micron memory chip please ensure that you are using the latest version of NOOBS.Are you using HDMI or composite ?

    • @MrDeltaLink
      @MrDeltaLink 10 лет назад

      Hi, the LEDs are not lit, and i am using the stock power supply however i have tried others. I am using HDMI. No idea with the memory chip

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  10 лет назад

      Hi again, even if the Pi does not boot you should see the red power LED lit. If it isn't lit the chances are that power is not reaching the unit for whatever reason. You mention that you have swapped power supplies but if you are using a separate lead have you changed that too ? I have seen faulty leads, power supplies and ones that don't connect properly if the Pi is in a case ?

    I have
    Raspberry pi 3 b
    A charger designed for it
    Samsung 32b (old and used i just formatted it)
    PS4 hdmi
    And it doesnt even boot Im trying to make it an emulator with retropie and (i have made multiple attempts i already erased all of the files)
    Only the red light shows up nothing more

      Bah Boobay Download it from the RaspberryPi website and the instructions are also there. All you have to do is unzip the downloaded files and copy them all to an SD card. Insert this in the Pi, power up and it will boot. It will partition the card and give various options for the operating system. If you downloaded the lite version the Pi will need to be connected to the internet, I always use a wired connection via Ethernet.

      @doublehaven  9 лет назад

      Hi Todd, if the Pi boots but there is no signal out of the HDMI port I would try re-installing the NOOBs software but also check the power supply is working correctly and the SD card is properly installed in the slot. It is more likely one of these things than anything else.

    I've just bought B+ and copied NOOB using my LG phone to Sd card. Now i see red and green Leds always on and nothing more happnes( TV doesnt see signal)

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  9 лет назад

      Hi, I have not tried copying NOOBS to a card using a phone but suspect that it's either the copying process or the SD card itself that is the likely source of the problem assuming that you are using the vary latest version of NOOBS. This is important as the previous versions that worked on the type B don't work on the B+.

      right now, ive already bought SD Adapter and new power source (5V 2A) and still the same. Im not going to loose this battle and Im going to buy new SD CARD

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  9 лет назад

      Ludwik Bukowski Does look like it may be an SD card problem, the B+ is an extremely reliable board so the chances of it being a fault with the hardware is unlikely.

    Hi,the last monday I got my pi3,but since the first time don't work,only the red light are on,I never seen the green light on,tried to use a 16gb class 10 SD,and a 8GB sd but nothing happen,I prove Rapsbian,Recallbox and others but have no lucky,now I am downloading NOOBS from the Pi3 website,and this is how I do
    1-Format the SD Card with SD Formatter v4
    2-Use the .img file with Win32 Disk Imager v1.0 or use Etcher program to put the .img on the SD card
    3-When I finish all this,just unnplugged the SD and put into the pi3
    Is something wrong with this steps,can you help me please?
    Now my last hope is NOOBS D:
    Nice video,and thanks for your help,greetings from Argentina!

    • @doublehaven
      @doublehaven  6 лет назад +1

      Hi Emmanuel. I think your issue is the software installation. There is no need to use the disk imager. Please try downloading NOOBS and unzipping it, then just copy all extracted files to the card you have formatted with the SD Card formatter. There is no need for the imaging step.

      It will likely either be the software installation or SD card. Not all SD cards work with some versions of Pi. It is possible it could be faulty but unlikely. The red light only is fairly common.

      Unfortunately it does not work, I tried with 3 different SD with several operating systems and what supposedly should be easy is not, a few days have passed and it is a disappointment and I lost count of the times I formatted the SD in both SanDisk and Kingston and installed Raspbian, Recallbox, Berryboots, NOOBS also thank you for answering, greetings.

      Hi, some earlier Pi B units were affected by this and would also run for a while and shut down at random. Units affected would be around 2 years old.

      +Jessie Lopez Hi Jessie, I am not aware of any issues like this with Pi 2 , it's a very reliable product with a very low failure rate but it is possible that your has developed a fault. Please try it with another power supply if you can and with a clean software install as these are the usual reasons for apparent faults.
