I love how he keeps in his Cornelius character... keeping his facial features alive with crinkling his nose, etc. That's what made the make-up work so well.

Yes. If this was 1974 then he would be playing Galen on the Planet of the Apes TV series. There were subtle differences in the makeup between each of the three ape characters that Roddy McDowell played; Cornelius, Caesar and Galen. I know this makeup isn't Cornelius because the hair is too short.

Planet of the Apes was a weekly TV show in 1974. Believe it or not it replaced The Brady Bunch on ABC. After finishing a days work on the Ape set he probably was driven to the Carol Burnet show. The two studios are a bout 15 minutes away from each other.

It's rather nice to see a few classics brought back to TV such as 'Are you Being Served.' Some people think American actors are the best. I disagree. Perhaps it's just a case of they might have more actors? I agree with you though. Love British actors. Such charm and witt usually. They make even those most depressing situations hilarious. Helps with my depression. I love Roddy McDowall and John Cleese. Top of my head they'd have to be top 2.

@@jefferyevans7773 I never thought of Roddy McDowall as English, but of course he was. I think you just notice the Englishness, so it seems better, especially in "posh" roles. Daniel Craig is the first "tough guy" James Bond (Connery had a coldness, but it was never thuggish), it's just something Americans tend to do better, as far as we are concerned.
The ancient realms bit is probably unfair to Americans, as they're based on stories older than the US. Put a Brit in a western and you get the horror of "Silverado".

I totally agree with you.. the best comparison is: 1999 Star Wars Yoda.. with the later Cgi-Yoda...
There is something organic.. living thing in it.. when a blessed artist, with love to his work, creates a masterpiece with his own hands.. its very similar to creating new life.. and with other talented people.. puppetmasters or actors like Roddy McDowall .. the new creature turns into a breathing, pulsating, feeling creature.. Its a much bigger magic in it, than the cold cgi, which even if its also buildetld by artists, the animation is often so artificial.. cold.. soulless.. We feel that its nothing but deas algorithms which moves this artificial "thing"..
Also there is a human side on handmade things: we appreciate work..and the love for work..
You can feel how much heart flow into Cornelius.. Zira.. or like i mentioned even the Yoda-Puppet, or E.T. ... thats why we feel something about those creatures.. On E.T. we can cry.. some also on Yoda when he died.. we have a relationship to this creatures.. because we feel them alive.. really alive.

Lots of time, especially on TV you'll watch a scene and you'll have no clue at all it's full of CGI. Your comment is stereotypical and ignorant as hell. The latest Planet of the Apes movies have superior ape looks, with much more expressive emotinal faces where you can actually see the acting come through. There's a reason Andy Serkis earned an oscar for his work fool.

We laughed together during the entire dance routine!!!!!!!!! The first movie WAS on 📺 sometime later and i watched IT with and my father and her and she laughed at almost the entire movie because she thought it was a comedy!!!!!!!!!!! My father couldn't figure out why until i told him during a commercial!!!!!!!!!! He understood and had to explain to her that it wasn't comedy but serious science fiction!!!!!!!!! She finally understood!!!!!!!!!!!!! 👌 that's ALL for now!!-!!!!!!!!!!
