  • In this video, Ed Frawley shares a question from the Ask Cindy database. Today's question is about a 9-month-old German Shepherd that likes to jump on and bark at their owner. Ed gives some advice on how to stop and prevent the behavior from becoming a habit.

My puppy does the same thing. He actually jumps up while on leash. Grabs pants and sometime ankles , pulls, bark and growl while I hold the leash. 16 week old boxer. He does this in my back yard and grateful he doesn’t do it while walking on street. I tell him no and pull up on leash but that doesn’t help. From the description of your video topic was hoping to find a solution. Love your advice of what to do to prevent that from happening. 🐾👍🏾

Oh gosh she didn't even have that German Shepherd in my opinion it's obviously a young energetic dog that wants to play. German Shepherds love to play it's probably not getting any of what it really and truly needs what your good long walks some exercise otherwise it wouldn't have to battle her to play. I wish these types of people will get doodle dogs or pugs or better yet stuffed animals

Purpose of a correction is not punishment, it is behaviour change. I like that thank you Ed.

Conditioning. My approach is to first feed ALL meals in the crate. I also use Primo Pads for comfort and ease of cleaning (also very difficult to destroy). It's a process and I don't rush it. All the details Ed provides here are excellent, as always. Summary is, I teach my dogs to love the crate, place bed, etc.
