This 5k PARKRUN was an ABSOLUTE DISASTER! - Beeston, Nottinghamshire

  • Beeston Parkrun is a well established Parkrun's in the country having been established in April 2014. It's a popular course attracting an average of 270 runners each week.
After visiting some tough courses in the past few weeks, I was hoping to set a pretty fast time today, with the course profile being a relatively simple rectangle, with a very limited amount of elevation (under 10 metres total).
Unfortunately today my body and the conditions had other ideas. My legs just had no life in them from the off, struggling to get anywhere near the pace I was hoping to set today.
While waiting for the run to start this morning I got quite cold and increasingly wet. Once the run started I struggled to get warm, which meant I was practically wishing the run would be over as quickly as possible today.
Facilities here were okay, we struggled to find the car park but found space on the road alongside the canal path. There were toilets near the start, which opened at about 8:30. There was a cafe near the start / finish, but unfortunately we didn't get to experience it today, we we prioritised getting warm and dry post run.

Definitely come back when it's not raining! we were 273 finishers today which is more than we expected given the rain, but a couple of other local events had cancelled so we probably took a few of their participants.

Thanks Ruth. I will do for sure! For the record, I thought you and the volunteers did a great job, it just wasn’t my day today. I’d probably put a bit of pressure on myself to get the time I wanted today and when the conditions and my own issues didn’t go my way I just felt a bit crappy about it.

Yeah we all have crappy days - don’t worry about it and don’t be hard on yourself :) and I certainly didn’t see it that you thought the event was a disaster or anything! I really like the video and description and stats and you’ll probably get a subscriber in me now lol

Those 5 training days on the trot probably contributed a lot to the lack of umph on this one. Calf tightness is a real nuisance, to put it mildly. At the moment, mine will use any excuse to tighten up!
    Better luck next time 👍🏻🏃‍♂️

Bit of a click bait title. Your run was a disaster (in your eyes), not the parkrun.

I don’t think it was intended that way - he’s being hard on himself for having not the best run (we’ve all done it)

The title is written ‘from my experience’ as you say. Yesterday was a disaster with regards of what my intentions were for the day. It was one of my slowest Parkrun’s I’ve ever done, and I went there hoping run run about 5 minutes quicker. My hope on my channel is that people are interested to follow my running journey so my titles are generally written from the point of view of my experience. I grant you, there is an element of ‘bait’ in the title, but matter of fact and boring titles generate far less interest and views. I think I am clear in my video in my post run analysis that the day being crap was down to me and not meeting my goals. I make a point of saying it wasn’t about the course or the volunteers. It is in fact, the first Parkrun video I have done where the race director has reached out to me and asked if I would like my video to be shared in the run report and Facebook group, normally it is the other way around, so I don’t think I have caused offence to the Run Director or volunteers, and if I had, I would of course make changes.

Certainly no offence caused to me as RD on the day!
