This past Sunday was my 1st Spartan race. It was quite the introduction with all the rain and mud. However, it was a good time! Thanks for posting this video! I'm gonna share 😊
Thank you!!! And congrats on your first Spartan race! What a race to run as your first. It was no joke out there. Glad you had a good time. We did too. Hope to see you out there on the course in the future - AROO!
@@OCRKings Thanks! Yes, I'm inspired to do another. Perhaps, a Super and then a Beast.
Right on
I have my first in 4 hours! Congrats!
Hope all went well and you had a great race!
Thanks guys for always having some seriously awesome content! I have my first Super this sunday at Bigfork and you guys have been the best guidance hands down. If you make it out there I hope to find you!
Thank you!! Good luck this Sunday, be safe, and have a great race! unfortunately we won't be out there is weekend. Hope to catch you on the next one - AROO!
Im doing my first spartan race this saturday and going in completely blind and alone!! Thank you for showing this video so i know what to expect 🙈💖
Excellent glad the video could provide some insights. Good luck at your race this Saturday! You’re gonna do great!!
Thanks for posting this. I raced solo but this was a great way to share the race with my wife. This was my third Sprint and I'm going to do my first Super in October. I'm good for that as long as the October one isn't in mud like this. The mud really added a greater challenge. Like normally going downhill is when you get to rest a little bit. But in mud, every step was delicate so that was tough as well.
So true! The mud added such a unique dynamic to this race. It made it a memorable adventure, that's for sure. Good luck on your first Super! Hopefully the weather will hold out, but anything can happen, esp. if it's at Mountain Creek.
I've never been in spartan race. Is there any training you need to prepare for this?
Running helps, as does working pullups into your workout routines. Beyond that, if you can practice climbing a rope and/or the spear throw, that really helps too.
Thank you for sharing this video!
And great job!
Thank you! And thanks for watching!!
💪🏾💯Good Morning 🙏🏾 🌄 Big Props to the guy who ran the course and filmed this damn,,I've a nephew who ran last year and running this year damn, as much as I hate mud I'd consider running 🏃♂️...
Thank you!! And if you can get out this year, definitely go for it!
I've got the Aussie Gold Coast Queensland Spartan coming up this weekend. Super + Sprint on the Saturday. The Beast almost killed me last year. Thanks for the great video! 👍
Excellent, good luck and have a great time at your events!! And thank you!
I was there. I love looking at this footage it takes me right back there. We are here. Arooo.
Aroo! Sorry we missed you there my friend. See you at the NJ Beast?
@@OCRKings you got it brothers, already got my pass. Please let us know what wave you guys are running. I will pick that wave. Looking forward to taking on the beast AROO. You guys are awesome. Great content.
Thank you sir! We'll keep you posted the closer we get to the date.
This specific race will forever be in my top 5 spartan races of all time. That mud that day was unreal, so freaking fun and great course design.
Totally agree. That mud was next level, and the crappy weather on top made it a very sloppy and very memorable race!
This is why you are the best in the business boys, nice work!
Much appreciated!
Looks like it was a messy blast! Wish I could have joined you fellas.
Even though it was a muddy slog, it was really fun. So much mud. I am still hosing off the gear in the driveway, and that's after it's been out in the pouring rain for several days now. Sorry we missed you, catch you on the next one!
Can't wait to try my skills .great program
Excellent! Have a great race and a good time out there!
Tengo 59 años y lo escribo aquí me estoy preparando para una carrera Spartan..CON TODO SI NO PA QUÉ RESPIRAR
Good luck in your training and have a great race!!
Awesome!
😁
Great work! So much mud!
Thanks!
Your vids have helped a ton guys! I volunteered at Olympus Saturday and after seeing the mess decided to bankroll my free race. But now you've shown me what I missed! :)
Excellent! Thank you for checking out the video, and thank you for volunteering. Hopefully your future race will have nicer conditions, and perhaps we'll see you out there. AROO!
@@OCRKings 😍
Congratulations on your race with this great time as we like them and your magnificent medals! Always on top of your videos / Félicitation pour votre course avec ce super-temps comme on les aime et vos magnifiques médailles ! Toujours au top vos vidéos ! Arrow Arrow Arrow
Thank you so much!!!
Love your videos, guys. Anyone else getting a Warren G vibe here? Regulators, mount up!
Thank you! And HA, I am whistling the hook right now!
Seems the rain help clean up some of the goop. Saturday looked much worse when i was running the super. Good work gentlemen. Oh, and thanks for the advise on previous vids.
Thank you my friend!
Awesome race 5k, extra muddy I see myself in the video. GREAT TIME
Excellent! And agreed, it was a great time!
That mud, WOW!
Yes, it was a mess out there!
Great rope climbing technique. That is a struggle for me. Your slow and steady style looks very effective. I will try that.
Thanks! I used to do arms only, but the step on the rope technique (j hook) really takes the weight off the arms and makes it way easier. You could stand on the rope all day. Hope it works for you as well - AROO!
Yeah and I’m looking for those shoes that the man in the yellow shirt had on while rope climbing
@@yamanhunny Hi there, just responded in another spot, but figured I'd post here too. The shoes are the Inov8 X-Talon Ultra 260 V2 Trail Running Shoes. You can find them on Amazon here amzn.to/42gy9Pj or on the Inov8 website here www.inov-8.com/us/x-talon-ultra-260-v2-mens-trail-running-shoe
I'm doing the one in Cincinnati in 2 weeks, looking forward to the challenge
Excellent! Good luck at your race and enjoy!
I'm thinking about doing these my self
Excellent, go for it!!
Watching this after Spartan Race in Kyiv, Ukraine. Started my OCR journey in April
Excellent! Glad to hear that you began your OCR journey, and we hope your Race in Kyiv went well! Welcome, my friend, and thank you for watching!
Wow! What a mess out there! Good job.
Thanks!
I wanna do it this looks like pain but fun at the same time
It can be really fun out there at times. Well worth the effort. Thinking about doing a race? You should try it!
@@OCRKingshow easy is it? Everything except the forearm exercises look easy
Wow great footage guys. What a mess. I love it 😜. More cowbell!! Was it really that quiet? Or did you edit out some volume? Usually i hear more motivated noises. Maybe its just me. Aroo. Thanks for sharing this with us
Gotta have more cowbell! There weren't as many bell obstacles in this race. With the rain, and them being caked with mud and gunk, the ring was really really low. Everything was muffled it seemed.
I usually find myself cheering everyone on. On down hills I'm usually reminding everyone not to waste a good downhill. As I jog past them.
Hey guys, quick question: I'm going to go pro my race for the first time. Which is better, a head mount or chest mount? Thanks.
Great question - head mount is better, especially in muddy conditions like in this video.
Go pros have come so darn far...m this footage is fantastic
Thank you sir!!! The weather was so bad, it was a struggle with the cameras. Tough to edit around.
@@OCRKings Naw I expected a lot more rain covered lenses. You two did great as usual
Thank you!
Hey, i see you hav unsual headstrap for GoPro that is secured to your t-shirt. Could you share where did you purchase it?
The thing we use to secure our headstraps to our shirts is a construction hard hat tether. I'm pretty sure it's this exact one: amzn.to/3ELW6Vs
WOW it sure did get muddier since the Super on Saturday! Probably burned twice as many calories just trying to power through it lol great video as always guys!
Thank you my friend!! It was crazy out there, but definitely memorable. See you for the Beast at Mountain Creek?
I will be there doing the Ultra to finally get one of those oh so beautiful purple belt buckles! If you guys are gonna be there then I will almost surely catch ya on the course. Gives me even more motivation to keep powering through now!
Right on!
Thank you so much for posting this. My friend and I are super nervous, and this helped a lot. This is our first race, and we are on our way now!
Awesome! So glad to help. How'd it go!!??
@OCRKings it was so much fun! So much rain and mud made it much more fun. We hit all our goals too! I'm signing up for another one for 2024. I had a blast!!
Awesome! Glad you had a blast, and hope to see you out there in 2024!
How long roughly did this take ya? These 5k sprints? Trying to time out my day for next weekend.
And in your experiences, do the heats start on time? Cheers
This particular race was a mess. The mud and the mountain resulted in a time of 1hr and 25min (ish) to complete. Normally for us, with battery changes and lining up the shots, and our typical slow and steady pace, a Sprint takes us around 45min or less. And sad to say, for most of our experience, heats start late by 7 to 10minutes usually, and at worst 30 minutes late (which is very rare).
@@OCRKings appreciate the response
@@Kyles_Money No problem!
Plus looking at that video a lot of the obstacles are for sure doable
Agreed, they certainly are
Hello, I Love this and would really Love to do this with my two physically fit sons in their 30’s, but I am a 62 year old mom with limited ability due to Parkinson’s, I sure would like to prove to myself and others that I’m still a capable badass!😉
Any suggestions on what race to do??
Thank you!
You could do a race with your sons, that would be great! Help each other and stick together. Any obstacle that is no go, the hell with it, skip it, especially in an Open wave. If there are penalties like burpees, perhaps one of your sons could do them on your behalf. Also, Tough Mudder is not a bad idea either. There are no penalties there at all. You could do as much of the race as you want/can, and bypass anything you might want/need to with no burpees or extra laps. I think the best part would be to do either race together with the family. The togetherness I think would be the best part.
I‘ll be running a Race in April. What shoes do you recommend?
I‘m usually a track and street runner so my running shoes are probably not appropriate to this, nor some medium hiking boots, right?
I‘m so excited about this challenge! First time running 10k in competition, I‘m in the best shape of my life regarding strength.
Awesome and we hope you crush in in April! If we were buying shoes today we both agree we would buy the inov-8 Mudtalon Speed - lightweight, decent drainage, and really agressive treads. We are both running in this shoe this year.

Thanks for the vid. Glad yall are back out there making obstacle videos for us. 👍🏿💪🏿🫷🏿
Thank you my friend!!
Awesome job guys! Good to see the boys back in action!
Thanks! Glad to be out there doing what we love. Hope to see you at a future race. Aroo!
“Is the goal to arrive as quickly as possible at the destination, or simply to walk comfortably?
For these, perhaps either
Wow, the mud! Your grip must have been a huge factor.
Grip strength was key on all the rig obstacles. I fell off every one of them, they did great.
@@jeffjakubowski9323 I'm hoping for sunshine during my first one in June. Fingers crossed.
Absolutely! Grip was a big factor, especially on the metal bars. We both were surprised on how slippery the monkey bars were and those new bars on the z wall. Super slippery. The pipe in the multi-rig gave us pause as well. Solid grip and slower more deliberate speed saved the day.
This was the first race in a long time that I thought I was going to fall off the monkey bars. It was really surprising how slippery it was. I can't imagine what twister and olympus would have been like. Crazy!
way to hit that spear throw 👍
Thank you! This was our first time with the new target lay out. We kind of like it. Have you seen the new target set up, and what are your thoughts?
@@OCRKings I have a 3 bale set-up in my backyard and used a hula-hoop to simulated the plywood cutout!
That is a fantastic idea!!
best in class
Thanks!
In low light and terrible weather, gopro's are usually terrible! how did you get such good footage??
Ha! Thanks! Trade secrets my friend!
Is it muddy on purpose or was it because of the rain?
It was unbelievably rainy that weekend. It is usually somewhat muddy out there, but not normally like this. Tons and tons of mud due to several inches of rain.
im gonna be direct
both david and tony capacity is limited for spartan race
respect for partiicpation and initiation !
👊👊
Do you go as fast as you can or is that not really possible with so many people on the course?
Great question! We tend to go at a consistent, medium pace. The elite runners might push to go as fast as possible, but we are slower and more deliberate, esp. when it comes to the obstacles.
Good work guys, though Oh Our Phlegm would have jacked this too, like everything else
My goodness, at a loss for words
I am planning to challenge it with my bro~but first of all i am 235 lbs now..how many lbs should i lose first before the tournament??
If you have good upper body strength, you probably don't have to lose any lbs. If you're tall and 235, you will probably do great as is. If you run and strength train, you'll be fine. If not, definitely get out there and run and train pullups (since those are the muscles you'll use most during Spartan). The lighter you are, the less weight will be pulling on you when hanging from stuff like the rig and monkey bars. It's up to you to gauge your level of fitness and balance out weight, strength, and endurance (for the running part). If you are in good shape overall, then you are good to go.
@@OCRKings thankyou for the advise..I am a gym person usually go to gym 3-4 times a week ..I noticed some of the obstacles are abit difficult for me such as the rope climbing ..my upper body strength is not bad but I think my lower body is abit over weight..I think so that losing some weight would be better..at least 40 lbs ..because when I do lat pull-down in the gym my max is like 180 lbs 6-7 reps..
First comment! My first top 10!
Awesome! And thanks for watching!
@@OCRKings Watch every video. You guys are great! These race videos always get me pumped right before my next race! Keep up the great materials
Thank you!
What kind of shoes did the man in the yellow shirt have on 7:52
The shoes are the Inov8 X-Talon Ultra 260 V2 Trail Running Shoes. You can find them on Amazon here amzn.to/42gy9Pj or on the Inov8 website here www.inov-8.com/us/x-talon-ultra-260-v2-mens-trail-running-shoe
Are you allowed to walk it? Do people do it?
Yes you are allowed to walk, and many people do. As long as you complete the race before the course is closed, it's all good.
It's amazing how many people are trying to rip off your format
It's a great big Internet, plenty enough for everyone
How did the shirt size run this year?
Good question. I think they are decent vs normal T shirt size. Damer and I both got large and they seem to fit just right, not too tight, not too loose.
@@OCRKings Thanks! I’m doing my first ultra in Fayetteville this weekend and if this goes well I plan on doing the tristate NJ Ultra next.
Awesome! You are a monster, multiple Ultras in the same season! Let us know if you are doing the NJ Ultra. If we do the Beast, perhaps we will see you out there.
What's your secret to keeping mud out of your camelback?
Good question! Short answer is we haven't found a way to keep crud out of the pack, but we can keep our stuff dry and mud free by putting the stuff back there inside a sealed Ziplock bag. I had my jacket in and out of the pack inside one of these: amzn.to/3pa7vcP Ziplock Big Bag size large. This is only for gear mind you, not for the water bladder. The only real add on for the bladder is for the bite hose. If you don't have one already, a "dust cover" is a must. It keeps the mud off the end of the hose and out of your mouth: amzn.to/3NCcLQO
Not trying to be rude but this looks super easy
ok
Can’t you just skip it all?
And also the course looks fairly easy with the exception of any and all forearm exercises
You could skip it all I guess, yes, but that would defeat the purpose of doing one of these vs. doing a road race. Also, there are penalties for skipping/failing obstacles, typically 30 burpees each. This course was up and down a mountain. If you run mountains often, then yes, probably pretty easy. It only had 1300' of elevation gain packed into 3miles, with pouring rain, and 6" of thick mud.
This looks easy asf lmaoo
Alright david goggins
Nice!
😂
Coalzxr plu
ok
Hmmm .. yeah definitely not interested in all that thick mud. No thanks!
Ok 👍
