Second vidja we ever shot with Willi. But it was the first song we heard of his that blew us away. We had the honor of recording WC's opus "What the Rocks Don't Know" at Western AF HQ of Laramie, WY. This is when we knew, he was the master of his craft, maybe his genre.

I sent this to my 71 year old father. His response was, "Amazing, this guy is a hoot." And that is about the best compliment anyone could ever get from that grumpy old Marine.
My pop is 72 year old salty ass dozer operator and had a similar reaction
Hope I'm as awesome as your grandpa when I'm 71 if I make it that far
@@deadair801 ,aas,
Who wants to live till 71?@@deadair801
This guy is on a whole another level.
Seriously.
Real shit
Word to that! Blown away right now
Unreal
I think he left levels behind.
This played after Colter Wall, I'm ashamed to say I almost skipped it. So glad I didn't. Damn good noise!!!
Trevor Lyons thanks man
This is unreal. From el dorado arkansas and you remind me of home brother
"damn I found Jesus in a BBQ line" Is the funniest fucking thing I've heard all year. I'm sorry if that wasn't the intention of that lyric, but something about it is hilarious to me.
That’s my favorite line in this as well!
like a hardcore preaching of Appalachian soul pain, spoken by a one man band doing interpretive chair tap dance. I feel it❣️
He’s from Kansas, let us have him. Y’all Appalachians have all the other good acts right now. Sending love from the Midwest.
Every single song of this guy should be featured in some movies
The fact this isn’t being performed in a large scale set just adds to the feeling of the song
This gives me serious "O brother where art thou" vibes
I don't know what just happened but I'm glad it did... Wow!!
This is one of those songs you want to continue on forever.
So beautiful, brother. Keep being uniquely you.
Well after twenty-nine years, I can say
I never thought it'd turn out this way
I stumble and I stutter, stutter and I cry
Ain't gonna figure out a reason why
The song hurts my throat, the banjo cuts my side
Hear the road cryin' out to the railroad ties
Road cryin' out to the railroad ties
That well love your light don't show
Down by the truckstop highway glow
Lord knows where I'll go
When the road cries out what the rocks don't know
Road cries out what the rocks don't know
All my friends in Arkansas, all alone in Maine
Six-to-one, half-dozen's the same
Back-Bay sailin' or the Great Divide
Mississippi deep, Rappahannok wide
Angels wings on a Wal-Mart sign
Angels wings on a Wal-Mart sign
And well love your light don't show
Down by the truckstop highway glow
Lord knows where I'll go
When the road cries out what the rocks don't know
Road cries out what the rocks don't know
Kansas City rib shack baby you're mine
Gimmie the pig the cow and the swine
My weight is my love, my shimmy, my shine
Damn I found Jesus in a barbecue line
Damn I found Jesus in a barbecue line
And well love your light don't show
Down by the truckstop highway glow
Lord knows where I'll go
When the road cries out what the rocks don't know
Road cries out what the rocks don't know
Well, I'd like to see the world in livin' color
But one color's just the absence of the others
To get the whole spectrum of horror and elation
Call good time numbers at a Conoco Station

I've only just found WesternAF and Willi Carlisle and funny enough woke up this morning humming his song "Cheap Cocaine". He's a unique talent.
I listen to this song at least 3 times most days
I never comment. But what a great lyric. Wow. Road cries out what the rocks don't know. Pro.
I live in Cincinnati too.
Sometimes the internet is a beautiful place. Thank you
Brotherly love relief and truth

Pretty dope for how minimalistic it is in terms of instruments. I'd like to hear some strings and drums too, u got a great voice!
This is amazing
Damn I found Jesus in a BBQ line!
Seeing Willi the night before Halloween I am beyond thrilled.
My boy! You quietly sing to me so I appreciate you and your heart 😎
the view count needs to be higher, this guy is exactly what most folk and country bumpkins have been looking for.
Im from san Francisco where theres no country music. I never really got into it until i discovered your channel. God bless you sir, some fantastic music here. Thank you
This is next level original. Custom builds some taps for those boots.
You're damn right. I noticed that foot tapping too.
@@lwb256 I think he invented that. So original and authentic.
This is art.
Watching Colter Wall 'Cowpoke' and saw the link at the end, and then it disappeared. Typed your name back into the search before I forgot it. Glad I caught this, good stuff.
Western af subscribe it's worth it
A year late, but my god I love this
That’s what ya call them hollar blues
This needs another million views. Great artist, great tune.
Thanks!
This guy is some good shit
Only 102 comments.. Sad. @willi_carlisle good job dude.
When the road crys out what The rocks don't know
All a color is the absence of another
My speakers don't go as loud as I wanna jam these tunes!
Good to see another brother that travels east.
Paper route is gonna love this tonight
Just a fella, his boots, harmonica, and his choice polished wooden spoons.
Coming from Greece this probably couldnt have been any further away from the musical roots I grew up with. Nevertheless, I have watched this video at least 15 times, mesmerized and smiling for 3 minutes every time. Music is so awesome and so is Willi Carlisle.
Kansas City rib shack, buddy you’re mine
Gimme the pigs, the cow, and the swine
My weight is my love, my shimmy, my shine
Damn I found Jesus in a barbecue line
Hands down, my fav part. Your music gets me through so much, Willi. Sometimes it makes me tear up but it still helps so fucking much. Thank you!
Mine too. I've written (and forgotten) dozens of verses to this song over the years, but when I wrote that one, I knew I had to keep it.
@Willi-Carlisle Always tear up at Dry County Dust and The Arrangements. Damn fine show at Caffe Lena in Saratoga, New York, in May, Willi! So glad I went, the eight hour round-trip in those thunderstorms was worth it! Thanks, man!
This is what should be on country radio
This guy puts on an amazing show
Yes, More please!
His energy is contagious!
Running your own race to perfection!
This cat has never left any points on the field.
Yeah, WILL I. this is great...looking forward to seeing you play live.
This reminds me of a beer that's sat around since 67'
Amazing
Best WAF vid to date! Watched it twice back-to-back and it was even better the second pass through.
A piece of clarity in a world of dissolution
Good lord take it easy

Seeing Willi once more March 1st BOY HOWDY HOTDOG!
I saw him in May in Saratoga, New York. Drove four hours one way in some nasty rolling thunderstorms, and the same coming home. Worth it! He is wonderful, laugh and cry and get sucked into his spirit!
Willi deserves so much respect for his talent. Keep digging into his music.
Excellent song, extremely underrated.
Just keep being you!!! It will connect with the people that matter.

Fucking, wild. I wish I had the word for the walmart and conoco parts. Everyday, yet somehow out of sight until the right reflective moment.
Great shit man!
I love to hear the bones played 👍
Speaking of bones does he have wood?
Love that harp' work!
What in the actually F ! Willie this is the best of the best ! Western AF !
Love this so much!
Wait till this guy discovers the guitar! 😃
Check out his song "cheap cocaine"
Yeah this guy is honestly a savant on instruments , he plays fiddle, guitar, spoons, harmonica
He is definitely trained
i have no clue what he’s talking about but i know exactly what he’s talking about
This is honestly amazing, such a brilliant performance! As much as I adore it, if you want a laugh, change the playback speed to two...
This is awesome. Talented 💪
Amazing.
So good!
We need more authentic Ozarks musicians like this
Yessir, we do. Luckily they exist, but the largest majority of them fellas don't want to be internet famous. Just go to any of the smaller local Fayetteville and surrounding area bars on like a Tuesday or Thursday night, and I promise you'll hear them fellas every week. It's what they live for. I'd suggest looking up Jesse Yingling of the band Left of Center for a good start of some good ol classic Ozark country rock.
Wow amazing love this guy❣️💖🌟💯
Man this gets me giddy.
i love this so..
thats soo great..
i like this kind of video.
Honestly you might be my new favorite artist. If your in Arizona let me know
Good job.
Holy fucking shit. 🎉
I cried when i heard this
I wish there was a boot boosted version somewhere i could download....I just wanna hear this live and then I can die
I have never heard this guy before but am really hoping I can find him on vinyl somewhere. He has such an amazing sound.
Country lost something long ago and this man found it
Wow! Just wow!
