I came across MKT two weeks ago. In Those two weeks, I’ve purchased 3 Praetorian’s, the wife and I completed the Medford university program, and have continued to educate myself on the brand, their product, and the owner. For the record, I see eye to eye on 90% of what Greg Medford thinks and portrays on all of his “rants”. Please continue with the great content.
I love everything about Medford Knife and Tool, including Greg, Amy, and their knives. I own quite a few Medfords, and they are all extremely well made and functional. One of my favorite knife companies.
Medford is a great company! I own multiple Medford’s. Every time I have bought on I have sent him texts to the number he provides on the cards and he has actually carried on conversations with me about the knives I have bought! I will continue to purchase Medford’s and be a fan of Greg and the Medford team!
I was ordering a slim midi marauder from Amazon a few days before Christmas. I called and left a message because I wanted to make sure it was legit (It was super cheap). Amy got back to me Christmas Eve night, checked out the product and confirmed it was legit. That really impressed me. Also I like the fact that Greg is super opinionated and doesn’t bitch down to everyone’s criticism. I discovered MKT in almost the exact same way you did so I agree 100% with what you said.
For a long time people couldn’t look passed thick stock. The geometry counts and how steep the grind goes down towards edge is key and especially the degree of edge bevel.
I have one and i like it. The over 4 inch blade is what was the main apeal to me. Larger folding knives are hard to find. Made In USA ones of high quality anyway. It's not as nice as a XM-24 but less money and it is made very well.
I recently discovered your channel and subscribed. I really enjoy your approach to your videos. For me, you provide practical and useful information. I'm currently looking at a 187 and your perspective is very helpful. Thank you
regardless of personal opinion of greg... the man builds a solid knife with very Premium materials these days with impeccable fit and finish most of which is done by hand... that said.. I love Greg
I have a DLT exclusive DPT 187 with the PVD coating and it will drop shut with just the tiniest shake and glassy smooth. I do think the uncoated version looks alot better though.
One of the first Medford’s that I like. I prefer lg knives. I’m tall so I have lg long hands. I’m sure this is probly out of my price range. I’d just go Military too be honest
Metal complex, remember the old days when you articulated your thoughts 😂 just teasin, keep up the awesome content says I, as I rewatch one of your older reviews while i contemplate my first custom
Since the beginning I felt some irrational pull to a Medford. I have a variety of knives including cold steels which are great hard use knives. I feel like a Medford is more of an art knife for me and I have plenty of function knives. This particular knife is attractive because of the price and materials. Also you comparing it to a sebenza is a definite compliment. My concern more will I regret getting this model as opposed to a praetorian which is more iconic to the brand. I suppose a micro praetorian fits me the best.
I've owned both the praetorian T and this 187 now. And honestly, the Praetorian T has that "holy sh*t" factor initially, but after a couple weeks, it just becomes another knife you could sell to buy something else you want. After I got mine, it just made me want to sell it and buy the full on Praetorian Ti. Everyone is different. Thats just how I feel.
A .165 is a great idea. It’s kinda the same theme he has done with the marauder and the praetorian. Hopefully they will do the same. The slim midi marauder has been a huge success for them.
I love Medfords as real heavy users...but one problem is that you mostly find tantos-but in my opinion you need a dp blade if you really want to use it
They may be a few stronger locking systems than a Framelock but: a well built Framelock is that simple and has as less parts as possible...which means it will work. Point! It doesn't depend if its muddy or anything it just Locks
Do you have an On Belay? You mentioned you bought 5 Medfords. I'm about to pick one of these 187DP up but I'm curious how it compares to the On Belay? (Other than D2 steel)
Starting to appreciate his designs a bit more. Even subscribed to his channel. Looked at a bunch of older videos in the last two weeks; plenty of controversy... Greg mentioned a "life-style" purchase and that struck me. Still think the warranty matter is idiotic with questionable customer service.
OD Green, Vulcan blade, I've been carrying it 6 years and it's done everything I've ever asked it to. You do not need another pocket knife. Unless it's another Medford.
Not being able to service the knife myself without voiding the warranty is idiotic. I get it but still idiotic. If he can't trust the end user for something so routine then that shows what he thinks of his customers. Or am I missing something?
Who knows. There are many knifemakers who operate the same way for a number of reasons. For now, we either choose to buy from him anyway, or just leave it and buy something else. Maybe down the road it'll be different.
@@metal_complex Yes, we have the freedom to choose. But when there are certain conditions/restrictions of a product then it needs to be pointed out. Criticism can be healthy...
I think criticism is healthy too, as long as it isn't a complete denial of any other qualities. For some, there will be enough justification to make a purchase. And for others, there won't be.
I'm seriously looking at getting one of these. Purple show side, blue clip side, flamed clip and hardware. Satin, s90v. $510. I've got an angel on one shoulder and a devil on the other. Guess who's gonna win?
@@johnj.baranski6553 I did. And it's fantastic! As thick as the blade stock is, it still glides through magazine paper. I'm officially a Medford fan now and will definitely be buying at least one more in the future.
I have an infraction for sale with LTK--- I look at that knife as a velvet hammer. Its super overbuilt, but slicker than whale shit -- killer action & the best lockup Ive ever seen on a framelock --- ever.
The best lockup you have seen? Lol. You can't really judge lockup on a visual. Ya you can see how early or late it is but medfords have such a steep blade Tang they are known to slip. I have had my share.
Bought my first Medford last week. Bought my 3rd Medford today... still looking for a few more. You were the first person I heard mention his “controversial opinions” and I figured he must be a communist because what else would shock knife people? After a little more research he sounded like your average Trump supporter. He and I probably disagree on quite a bit but I’d rather find the common ground and that’s definitely knives.
Overall blade length is what the cops use when they're checking to see if the blade you're carrying is legal. Cutting edge length is, of course, the length of the usable cutting edge.
Good presentation & a good looking knife overall. However it still does not make me the least bit interested in a Medford. They seem well oversized & heavy with no gain in capability. Even with great geometry & excellent steel it has no more ability to do tasks that I would consider doing with a folding knife than a PM2 or a Griptilian in premium steel. I don’t care what anyone likes, carries or uses. Just not for me at all.
In one comment, you come down on Medford's lock geometry, and in another, you're on me for not properly explaining the added value that comes with hand ground blades? Pick a side and quit being a troll.
🤦♂️ because no one knows if you're in support of Medford or against them. A hand ground blade on a folder is meaningless in value if you don't trust the lock. Speaking of that, where are you getting this info? You mean YOU don't think their lock geometry is good? Or do you have actual video evidence of a Medford framelock experiencing lock failure under *normal* use? Just saying something like "it doesn't have good geometry" or "look at the angle of the tang" is useless. Seriously, if that's what you're gonna come back with, save it.
Greg Medford is absolutely a horrible person and an outspoken racist. That’s not an opinion, that’s a fact, which we’ve all had a chance to see. I do like a few models of his knives though and I try to separate his views from the product. If you look at owners of jusr about any company you’ll find crappy people… that’s just life. The knives have come a long way since he was stacking 5 washers into a knife to try to get the tolerances right… lol.. I have a slim midi and I really like it a lot. I gotta say though this kind of sounds like a paid review, just the way you’re correcting yourself any time you come close to saying anything even close to negative.

I’m very interested in getting my 1st Medford in 2019-2020. Doing a great job offering more steel options and more everywhere user friendly designs.

Awesome craft. Greg and team make the best. Cry once! Get one now!
only thing they still missed is to have a cutout or at least a relief on the show side to access both the hole and the framelock
Thats so funny its 2023 September 3 and im buying my first MEDFORD and its the exact same model with VULCAN FINISH 8:19
Im not sure stock thickness has much to do with paper sliceing--- there many vids of people shaving paper with axes (Cliff Stamp)
Frank : Good point!
geometry and apex sharpness are 2 different things. mix them together and you have something truly amazing
Incredibly intelligent review. Very good articulation of your thoughts. Subscribed

Great video thanks for making so many I think what you are doing is great!!!
Medford is also using s35vn

Interested in selling the 187
i still think all his stuff is too overpriced. if i was looking for a big knife i'd get a fulltrack or something
Also a great choice!

Fucking brick.
you get one point for using actual high end stainless
