  • Watch the journey to develop a prototype Open Source Smart Glasses, an early version of fully DIY AR glasses. Designed by Cayden Pierce and Team Open Smart Glasses (TOSG), these glasses are designed to be 1. All day wearable 2. Immediately useful 3. Extendable for makers, startups, and everyone else. We are building a suite of cognitive augmentation applications for these glasses and partnering with various research and product organisations to develop, research, and deploy next generation smart glasses use cases.

    Pretty amazing project! I was amazed at 5:43 on how much tech you managed to fit in the relatively small glasses frames! Also- it was neat to see at 9:12 the lightweight glasses transcribing the conversation in real-time, storing it through the mobile app. I am definitely interested in seeing where this project goes, and clicked the notifications bell! 🔔 to hear updates on your new videos!

    Superb video Cayden and you said it perfectly when you stated "some wearables aren't wearable". It's impressive you've been able to fit 1000mAh batteries into your open source smart glasses and I hope this new hardware can help further WIS. Top work.

      Thanks Vuyu! Lots of energy in a wearable form factor is an important early step, so that's why it's in this early prototype. We'll need it even more as more electronics and capabilities are added.

It's tough working alone but I gotta stick to it and make it to the other side with my latest project. This is so cool, exactly what I was looking for. Immediately subscribed. But I do have a couple of questions.
    Once you implement a display, will it be the same type as modern ar glasses such as vuzix? How do you plan to manufacture them?

    • @caydengineer
      @caydengineer  Год назад +3

      Thanks Mick!
      Most use cases don't require high resolution (don't need >= 720p) or high FOV (15-30 degrees is all that's needed). We are currently beginning experimentation with some small size OLED optical modules. Yes, in the longer term we will partner with optics companies to integrate better, smaller, lower power optics module. At this later stage the optics would likely consist of a microLED or microLCOS display and reflective or diffractive wave guide with coupled prescription lens.
      Manufacturing thus just requires integrating (into our smart glasses) optical modules that are received from a partner already tested and optically coupled microdisplay and optics.
      Hope that helps.
