I know nothing about RC Helicopters but hearing the details about the hobby and your experience with it over the years is really interesting! If you have any other perspectives on other hobbies I'd be interested in listening to more!
The RC hobby changed A LOT in the last 10 years. Nitro is kinda nonexistent for most RCers nowadays since brushless got so more easier. The Flight Controllers and Recievers as well. All of them are equipped with Gyro Stabilisation, Panic Recovery and so on
Great video mate, I really enjoyed this. I'm pretty well in the same boat and am looking at getting back into RC Heli's after about a 5yr break. I started off Electric (also never liked nitro) back around 2004 with Mikado 10/16 and MA Ion-x. Over the next 10 years I progressed into more modern flybarless 550-700 heli's, with flight controllers like Helicommand. Like you, I prefer slow 3D/Acro flying and don't have the thumbs for smack. In around 2015 I got into FPV Aircraft (racing drones and planes) and this shifted my focus away from Heli's. In the meantime I've still enjoyed flying RC planes (gliders, 3D, and floatplanes). Now I'm kinda over the FPV-thing and I'm looking at getting back into heli's. My biggest current problem is that most of my battery packs are 6-12yrs old so I'll probably need to look at getting some newer ones. Plus get rid of any that are a little puffy, lol! I'll probably start off with a couple of 6s-5000 packs and get my Blade 550 w/Helicommand going first. I also have a Blade Nano S3 micro that fly's ok, but is way too underpowered and twitchy to 3D, for me anyway. Between your video and a visit to a local heli event last weekend (Boomstrike 2024 at LARCS, Queensland) I'm now a motivated to get back to the darkside! Thanks again mate and best cheers from Australia. Like you, I've been into PCVR since around 2016 and I've spent a lot of time and $'s on that (eg. i913900k/rtx4090 PC with a number of current headsets). I mainly VR with flight sims like xp11/12 and msfs2020, plus also RC sims like RF9.5s and Aerofly RC8/9.
Good luck getting things going again! I'm running the same CPU/GPU combination for VR. They have worked very well on my Varjo Aero and Bigscreen Beyond.
I'll watch videos on this, for sure. Interesting stuff. I love the way you've set this array up. You have great organizational skills. Are there any local restrictions on where you can fly these?
I'll only be flying at FAA designated FRIA sites in the area and one in particular which was my airfied before the legislation got here. That said, the other two sites I've flown at in the area are also FRIA sites.
Designated flying fields are great. But if you live in a more rural area where you may not have access to one, you can fly them in any large open space, preferably one with grass because this WILL save you on parts when you crash. Also, starting with a 150-200 sized heli is ideal. They don't cost as much, and the parts are very inexpensive. OMP M1, M2 and GOOSKY S1 and S2 are IMO the 4 best mini/micro heli's to learn on. They will grow with you, and lead you into the larger 400+ sized helis. There are 3 types of RC helis. Co-Axial, Fixed Pitch, then the 3rd one is the one where you see the guys flying 3D are called Collective Pitch. Collective Pitch is what you want to learn on. Fixed Pitch gives you a good idea of the basics of heli flight, but it's a waste of time as you have to sort of re-learn when you go from Fixed Pitch to Collective. If you are really interested, see if there's an RC Club in your area. If there's a Heli group, even better. You can go to the site and talk to the Heli guys and see if you might like to get into the hobby. Helis are awesome to watch, but some people might not like flying them, because they ARE difficult. BUT they are so rewarding... I had my first successful flight, meaning NO stabilization mode, on January 30th 2023. Since then I've gone Heli Crazy, and now have 12 Helis in my fleet, the largest being an SAB Goblin RAW 580. I just started building my first "Kit" helicopter 2 weeks ago. The Goosky RS4 Venom.
@@AnythingEverythingRC-rc1yc Sounds like you are having fun!!!! I have new batteries arriving today and I'm getting ready to update my transmitter's old software to something much newer. I'm also going to try out a Spirit GTR with my DS-16. Should be interesting :)

@@markkovalcson7243 Thanks. It makes sense that they would have dedicated airfields.

@@AnythingEverythingRC-rc1yc Wow! You know a lot of about this stuff. Thank you for taking so much time to write this.
I have a zero time OS max .40 nitro motor heli engine if anyone's interested , came out of a concept 40
