Comics separate the casual, fair weather fans from people who wanna enjoy and dive into comics. Like actual combat sports fans vs people who root for the famous person because they're recognized everywhere.
1:14 unfortunately yes, for example, spider-man in the main comics for example had a storyline a couple years back called “One More Day (OMD)”, it ruined the character for what it was and the majority of spidey comic fans hate it, BUT it is indeed canon to the character as for how you tell what’s “real” and “fake”, there’s no such thing, or at least not in the context you’re thinking of. There is no “filler” in comics, or at least none that isn’t canon i can’t speak for every comic company out there, but for DC and Marvel for example, they use the multiverse. One comic Spider-Man is an omniscient god and the other has a brainwashed wolverine killing the x men, they’re different universes so it’s all canon, just to their respective universe. Same for DC, the Injustice games are their own universe, so everything that happens there is canon, just not to the main timeline/continuity manga is a lot easier to follow in that regard, one manga with one storyline in one continuity with all the characters you’re going to need to know. No tie-ins, no ridiculous retcons or reboots, just a straight path from the beginning to end
Don't forget to mention how even though Marvel and DC use the multiverse, they still have their canon main timelines that everyone pays attention to the most. Like Marvel's 616 universe, idk what the DC equivalent would be if they have one
Every artist/writer has free reign to make whichever character as weak/strong as they want to for their story. Which is why Some Supermen can pull planets and others lose to Batman
Superman doesn't just lose to Batman tho. He was weakened by Kryptonite, so it wasn't inconsistent with his character. It's bothersome when writers take creative liberties with characters they don't understand. Netflix's Avatar is a perfect example of this.
@improbablyyourdad8458 the Kryptonite thing is weird too. Cause main Superman fought and beat superboy Prime while he was on a planet of kryptonite, when Superboy Prime, who is already stronger than Superman has no weakness to Kryptonite at all. And he’s beaten Metallo 1v1. who is def. Stronger and faster than Batman. Not coming at you just saying comics are so inconsistent that even Superman’s only weakness changes how much it affects him
Comics are more extra than manga most of the time. Like right now there's a comic where the Justice League is fighting Godzilla and Batman just randomly pulled out a giant Mecha to fight him like what??? How'd he have that shi prepared already. That's why I like Batman fighting his own villains instead of alongside the JL
It’s because Flash and Cyborg helped him, if you have somebody to help you that moves faster than the speed of light and a walking super computers than it would actually make sense for it to be built that quick.
Also dc/marvel comics specifically have like 80 different writers for 1 character where as manga has 1 author Manga is a straight line dc/marvel comics are a ven diagram in a web graph
That was one of the reasons I liked death battle can’t read every comics, but they can do it for me and I will just agree and disagree depending on if it makes sense or not
Alot of yall are just casuals who don't know anything about the characters outside of the movies and shows, which is fine. It's alot to keep up with in terms of just movies and shows let alone comics when these character are like 50 plus years old, so it's understandable for everybody to not to know everything. But if someone is educated on the comic history you just gotta step aside and let them have it because they've taken the time to further educate themselves on the full history of these characters. 🤷🏽♂️
Further proof why I will never discuss comic book characters and stories with fans who elect to limit their knowledge to movies, TV shows and cartoons.
That’s why the whole point is to compare characters who will never get written to fight each other. Then you just use facts provided from previous stories to make your conclusion.
The thing about comics is that those many versions of the character are technically canon. If you wanna narrow it down to only one version of the character, you’d have to only be talk about the character from a single series they have. Like how Batman has Batman , World’s Greatest Detective, The Dark Knight, Justice League, etc. Like if you wanted to scale just his Dark Knight shit you would only talk about his feats from that. That’s the only way to “only talk about a single version.” Otherwise if you’re talking about the character in general you have to use everything he’s done in canon.
Which is tiring cause new writers can write the character however they want for a new series/timeline. At some point, all comic book character should be treated as gag manga characters
Manga and Anime fans really only know these comic characters from the movies and they wanna talk about them. Like, you can't talk about a character you don't really know anything about. Comic characters have DECADES of stories and feats and only when you know a significant amount about those can you actually start making claims.
Completely agree. Yet those days I think most people have agreed comic book characters are way too OP. Especially because of RUclips shorts involving comics and Death Battle
Then just say we talkin about the movie versions then not everybody has the time or patience to catch up on decades of comics I'd rather read all of one piece 💀
@@bigred212 If they don’t have the time or patience that’s fine, just don’t bring the comic characters up and we good. Anime fans should specify they’re talking about the movie versions of the characters.
To any powerscalers out there who don’t know comics: Marvel = everything from the main timeline (Earth 616) is canon. Meaning the Spiderman from Amazing Spiderman #1 in 1961 to today is the same Spidey. DC = Main timeline is Earth 0/Prime but unlike Marvel, rebooted once in 1985 in Crisis on Infinite Earths. Soft reboots have happened like Flashpoint and Rebirth but generally speaking everything in Earth 0/Prime after Crisis is canon. Everything else is straight goofy shit to give ppl who don’t read the mainline comics a book to pick up like Marvel Zombies, Injustice, Superman Red Son, Kingdom Come, and Batman vs the Predator
@@Dzo-pp2zp that’s true I was mostly thinking of the goofy stuff like Batman vs Predator but I realized there were more well known stuff so I listed that instead.
Thing is though those stories crossover. Injustice is Canon since supermans son visited that world. Marvel zombies is Canon. Unless it's what if. It's Canon too the wider multiverse and those things can and have came into the main 616.
Spiderman is the perfect example of comic bullshit. In the 90s bro beat up a herald of GALACTUS. Now his fans never shut up about how doc oc as Spiderman punched Scorpions jaw off 🙄 saying he can beat anyone if he's serious.
Actually that was the 80s 🤓 But seriously in that fight he got crazy lucky and that was acknowledged. Anyone who cares more about feats then context probably spends less time reading comics and more time watching powerscaling bs on youtube. They'll claim otherwise to try to improve their credentials
Most comic fans aren't as into power scaling. We're there for the stories, and can see when stuff happens that messes the story up. The really annoying people are the guys that have read a little comics but get most of their info from RUclips "who would win" contests and try to pass off as real comic fans
Comic book fans will have you hashing out the differences between enhanced strength and super human strength but it makes sense so you can’t really say anything 😅
Correct me if I am wrong, but from what I seen with comic book Canon, these companies only require them to maintain specific parts to comic book characters and as long as that is done to their desires, writers can do whatever they want.
As a comic guy. I just hate when people who just started liking these characters try to tell me I'm wrong for wanting them to be who they are. I remember getting argued down over X-Men Origins Deadpool being trash. Then years later those same people apologized once the Deadpool movie was made because now they saw what was missing in origins.
DC and Marvel have so many crazy feats and it almost feels like they have the same amount of anti feats with how dirty they be getting done sometimes lol
@@tomgu2285 What comics are you reading Lmao? Hulk never struggled against wolverine, he never lost to Thanos in the 616 universe and he never lost to captain America.
@@tomgu2285 No I want stop talking stupid. Current Hulk is fighting reality warpers. Hulk has destroyed universes, punch through reality and shook the multiverse. You don’t read comics and you don’t know shit about comics.
The worst thing about comic readers is that apparently everything you’ve NEVER heard of is canon, even if it’s from 8 different writers and 3 different continuities it’s still canon. Every comic book fan is like those dudes from Death Battle. Just pulling every feat possible. And the idea of canon is so lenient in American comic books
It's cause most of their multiverse crap is still canon. You'll have dudes argue like the character is just gonna be transforming between all versions depending on what feat they need.😂
Nah they can’t just write anything, they have editors and people in charge of making sure everything they write coincides with the vibe of the universe, their characterization and their level of power. Writers have parameters
You can’t argue with “power scalers” a better title some characters limit are left vague enough where it doesn’t really work taking them out of their universe. Dbz and most shonen marvel and dc. There limits are so defined by thin comparison to each other that when facing off against another character from franchise. It won’t work since there’s no way to know there real limit would be in a more realistic setting.
But as for comic peep yea most of peeps use other versions like he brought up Superman but if you were reading the comics you would know that’s base Superman currently is all of his versions combined into one
@@DaikaSama What? How would not make characters merge? Actually it seemed to be the end of Dark Crisis where everything became canon. They make everybody remember everything from all continuities. Now literally every single main continuity is a part of the same timeline. Every Crisis, every reboot, and every memory. Hell, even normal humans remember it as a single timeline now.
There’s just too many different variants of the same comic characters to even scale them properly. They can not have powers then have powers then have transient powers. Become the world itself etc. it just don’t make sense anymore😂
Why would you use variants to power scale when certain characters are stronger in different universes? People were salty about Superman beating goku because the think alternate Superman feats were used when every single ability displayed in the death battle came from prime earth Superman
You can’t really argue with anyone who fanboys over something they like, even casuals get caught up being the “well actually” guy sometimes because they don’t want their favorite losing etc
Comic book readers invented power scaling. Anime fans tried to change it that's why their power scaling doesn't work as well. It is mostly based off a handful of characters with the same power. Comics they have a 40 yr advantage of feats, and a vast array of powers. How does a character like Goku deal with vibranium? Certain things don't have an equal.
When Superman lost to Muhammad Ali, it was because Superman wasn't trying to fight Ali. He respected him too much and both were teleported to a planet surrounded by multiple red suns, which was draining his power rapidly.
Facts that whole comic was to pay homage to ali, everyone uses that pathetic example to try to downplay superman fighting ability even tho its stated in the comics that superman trains with wonder woman who is one best h2h fighters in the DC verse and is mastered in krytonian martial arts that heavily involve boxing and wrestling but mfs too ignorant to read.
I remember going into my local comic shop in the early 2000's a few times and being put off by the regulars banging on about batman vs the flash or some shit. Fans arguing about who would beat who was and still is incredibly cringe.
Yeah i feel you man, these characters don't even have a concrete story Like there's THE invincible story and there's A superman story The only story these dc and marvel characters have is the origin Batman's parents gets killed he becomes batman... random bs follows Superman's planet gets destroyed he goes to earth and becomes superman...random ns follos Peter gets bitten by a spider, becomes spiderman... random bs follows No actual plotlines that holds as a plotline, rather it's one of the many plots that may or may not be overlooked depending on what we're talking about These characters would have been better off just existing in their own universe, crossovers should be left for video games Like what are these writers still talking about in the 456 spider man reboot
As a longtime reader & writer, canon is a weird mixture of what writers write & what fans respond to. Manga is much better at managing that sort of thing, since comics are decades worth of stories by thousands of writers.
Manga fans do the solame thing come on. JJK came out and everyone acted like nobody could beat GoJo, like Infinity wouldn't be an after thought to guys like Goku who'd just punch through it after powering up or Dr. Strange wouldn't just magic him some other way .
Buddy if gojo was a comic book character in the marvel or DC universe he probably could destroy a whole multiverse. But then then lose against batman or spiderman in the next issue. Look the main problem with marvel and dc comics is the consistency their garbage they don't have a rule a powersystem nothing. Characters just get stronger when the plot needs them to be.
Bro, it could be about from the movies Like Civil War, for example Captain America versus Iron Man And then we just had to go to the comics for some reason why this character can beat that character even though those are completely different versions
When I debate comics I tend to stick to canon comics only. No else world stories, noncanon, multiverse, cartoons or movies. I also make it the current state of comic books. For example, I wouldn’t argue pre crisis feats when the current state/universe of comics was say new 52 era. Both are canon but just stretched across a long period of time. I feel like that’s where it can get unfair for a person who is not as well versed in comics. But you will never hear me use a movie version as my defense. DC/marvel heroes are almost always downgraded and weaker in film than they are in the canon comics. Especially hulk and Batman. They never go base level power.
1:00 Yes… though sometimes the fan base srcreams to the top of the mountains on how dogwater it is. The writers, also knowing that it’s ass, do what we call a retcon. Gwen cheating on Spider-Man with Green Goblin, and later being retconned to some magic voodoo mind trick for example.
He's not every Superman, lol there are thousands of them in the DC Multiverse. But he is every main continuity Superman, which are only 4 (Golden Age, pre-Crisis, post-Crisis, and New 52).
The only time it becomes a problem is when manga and anime fans try to debate with comic characters and they have no clue what they’re talking about I don’t blame them if they are completely new to comics seeing a lot of variations of the same character I can see how that will throw them off but for comic readers that’s not a problem because they know that there are a main universe variant of these characters that are the ones to debate and go off of like if I were gonna debate base Spider-Man a comic reader would either assume its 616 Peter Parker or they would ask what version of Spider-Man im talking about and that can let them know which version of the character I’ll be pulling my feats from the only time where we would bring up other versions of the character is if that version performs a feat that we are aware the original can do but just haven’t done it a good example is when superior Spider-Man knocked the scorpion jaw off and in the comic it explains that Spider-Man could always do this but he just holds back someone debating can use that as a strength feat to prove that normal Peter has that same output I know it’s alot but its really not that confusing 😭
One of the funniest yet cheapest things to win against anime debaters when you are a comic book reader is just to bring out any type of feats and bring out any type of comic as your source They rarely check it out, and when they do, just tell them to check harder 😂
@@imaginaryking5276 it’s funny because it’s true😭like 90 percent of them have no clue where to fact check or what comic to even read that’s why I usually tell them to just leave the comic characters alone😭😭
I see comic readers always use "he holds back" maybe the writer just use it to defend bad writing like you tell me he could always do that but still struggles nearly always dies and and? But he "holds" back. Hulk also always holds back superman to actually every superhero holds back. Sometimes they don't hold back and just nearly lose and die. However hey sometimes the writers new writers make Op shit and try to say ohh he always holds back.
Stan lee Said it best whoever wins is the person the writer wants to win when these heroes do crazy abilities. It's cuz they need them to do a crazy ability to advance the story or cuz they think it's cool they aren't sitting there considering every power and how a matchup realistically like if this was a UFC fight or something All that matters is what looks cool and what makes sense for the story. So as soon as you try to power scale or take everything literal you're missing the point. There are no consistent through line or if there are those through lines are ambiguous and subject to change that any moment
Swear u gotta read comics with GREAT moderation, and pick the important ones. Now I know most of Marvel’s characters and true power scales, DC too. But Superman is somehow just.. ion even know.
@@edwinsolis5710if you want to read a superman comic, read “Superman” or “Action Comics” If it’s spider man, just read “The Amazing Spider-Man” and etc. Problem is, all these comics always at one point end up interconnected with another comic which is interconnected with other comics which ends up being to much work to read as compared to reading a manga At the end, I recommend you just read the marvel or dc database involving the character you want to know and search the comic you want to read based on that
Superman didn’t lose to Muhammad Ali. That was non canon and he was randomly weakened. Without powers Superman is shown to be a captain America level hero. He knows multiple martial arts including sword fighting.
But he lost against batman. And against doomsday and got one shot by a shotgun. And and. His point still stands. Powerscaling is none existing in marvel and DC and that's a fact.

Its kind of ridiculous one can watch anime that have characters that go to alternative dimensions and see and interact with alt dimension selfs and comprehend that but get confused to no end with comics soing the exact same thing😂
This one I have a problem with, so superman gets help lifting a supposed book with infinite pages but Shazam helps him. Later ultra man earth 3 evil variant will loft it alone but cause people say superman is equal or stronger than ultra man he should be able to loft it without help. Like what?

It’d honestly not that hard. Manga readers just get confused because it’s not one author with a beginning to end. You wanna see a “canon” Superman? Literally pick up the comic called Action Comics where Superman was created. Every issue is canon Superman. This isn’t hard. Superman has been running for almost 90 years. Of course they are gonna change shit to fit with the times.
That’s the annoying thing tho. The changing of writers always leads to character assassination. Established trait of character that was introduced before and then forgotten once the new writer come.

Stan Lee said it best. Power lies within Arthur. We are power-scaling the characters; will the authors be making click-bait comics; and what will sell more? The winner is always what the aurthur wants; that’s how you get characters like the undefeatable squirrel girl beating people like Galactus. Or how is Dr. Doom damn near omnipotent being lost to the Fantastic Four?
You got a separated into era and if this happened in the main timeline unless you’re marvel, where most things happen, in the meantime, one, unless specifically stated to happen in the future, or in a different universe entirely so IDC has black labels, a.k.a. Elseworlds, or anything can happen so you have to check if it’s an elseworld story or not And then we usually separate based on generation so like, for example, the superman, they pulled the entire solar system that was silver age superman, who is weaker than Golden age, Superman, but silver age is definitely stronger than bronze/modern age superman but when you talk, Superman is a whole you talk about all of them so all their feats become applicable since they all have it in one timeline, this is technically the same person and then different variations of these characters. Thanks to else worlds are usually just multi-verse theory. Like, for example, superman 1 million who’s just Superman if he chose to fly into the sun and just sit there for a really long time something that’s possible just potentially a superman that you’re using didn’t do it, so that’s why when they say general, and they start pulling out all these different forms and crazy feeds. They kind of roll everything in the one because when you’re speaking in general, it’s every possibility of this character kind of like how people will point out Sasuke has Indra's Arrow even though that takes so much set up and prep time it’s impractical to use in a real fight. You still give it to him because it’s a possibility of that happening, but since comic books don’t like to change things much, everything becomes a possibility so it gets really wild
Comic readers will dead pan tell you that a character has super powers that they don't because of powerscaling. People will dead face try and claim that characters like The Thing and Batman have faster than light super speed despite neither character even having super speed to begin with.
Debating with comic fans is just annoying af, these mfs will pull out feats from comics almost no one would read in this modern era of characters punching away concepts or snuffing out stars by breathing, it's utterly dumb, especially since DC has had so many reboots over the last eight decades yet they can still use feats from a completely different continuity and a different era of comics altogether and yet somehow those feats are still credible, its a complete snoozefest especially when debating an anime character vs an comic character, anime characters are widely more consistent.
People who say that power scaling is dumb because “the winner just depends on the writer” and blah blah blah, are the same people who also believe that Invincible can beat Superman because Robert Kirkman said so. Both of your sides have your own brand of stupidity.
You just gotta make people pick a specific version of the character they’re talking about. I’m not gonna debate someone who’s gonna cherry pick feats from 30 different versions of their character. Not tryna say comic characters are weak without doing that cause it’s not the even close to the case but it’s annoying af when people cherry pick feats. One tip tho is when people start bringing up absolutely insane mind bending feats for a comic character, that is most definitely not from the same version of that character or it was a temporary state/form that character went into. Base Superman is not doing even half the stuff his strongest version can do but people will pull feats for both. Damn I wrote a long comment 😂

1:14 unfortunately yes, for example, spider-man in the main comics for example had a storyline a couple years back called “One More Day (OMD)”, it ruined the character for what it was and the majority of spidey comic fans hate it, BUT it is indeed canon to the character
as for how you tell what’s “real” and “fake”, there’s no such thing, or at least not in the context you’re thinking of. There is no “filler” in comics, or at least none that isn’t canon
i can’t speak for every comic company out there, but for DC and Marvel for example, they use the multiverse. One comic Spider-Man is an omniscient god and the other has a brainwashed wolverine killing the x men, they’re different universes so it’s all canon, just to their respective universe. Same for DC, the Injustice games are their own universe, so everything that happens there is canon, just not to the main timeline/continuity
manga is a lot easier to follow in that regard, one manga with one storyline in one continuity with all the characters you’re going to need to know.

Which is why Some Supermen can pull planets and others lose to Batman
thats why there is no point in powerscaling comic book characters because the feats and anti feats makes no sense. its just super inconsistent.
Not coming at you just saying comics are so inconsistent that even Superman’s only weakness changes how much it affects him
It's the Batman fans that absolutely squandered everything for all of us 😆

True it is because you know fiction but at the cost of upsetting fans and breaking established rules and limitations of characters.

Mfs out here building the perfect Superman from all his different versions 😂
It makes things harder when you have never read a comics before. Like, how are you gonna know he’s picking from different versions?
@@imaginaryking5276 Kinda just depends on the nature of the debate itself. If it’s a fun between you and your friends then it’s whatever just have fun with it but if it’s a legitimate debate which sounds about cringe as it is then you should have knowledge on both characters otherwise you’re most certainly going to lose the debate.
To be fair current super man was fused with all his different versions
@@imaginaryking5276you can tell. Niggas be saying “ supes lifted infinity, beat mandrakk, became a god” etc.
Recently something called infinite frontier happened and pretty much every superman feat that has ever happened in the main universe, before and after every reboot, are all canon now. So superman is genuinely just broken af 😭
Manga readers and comic readers are on a different level of people who are impossible to debate with 😂
Atleast manga readers follows only the source material, unlike comic readers be bringing every godamn version of their whack ass superhero.
@@justsomeguythatwantssometh9986 the weebs and comic readers are already pathetic as is for caring so much about character comparisons.
@@justsomeguythatwantssometh9986 Nah manga readers are just as bad ngl, it’s just that manga is way easier to follow cause it’s not a whole 50 year old universe
@@justsomeguythatwantssometh9986that’s not fair cause Superman legit fused with his alternate selfs so he now has legit every feat from 1960 till now
Yeaa I argued with my brother about spider-man and superman and it made me suicidal. It was 10 minutes. Felt like a decade. I celebrated my birthday while that mf talking about "aCtUaLlY"🤓
Wolverine isnt better than cyclops on paper im glad they are done making him the but of a terrible running joke
Nah wolverines better
@@TRJ42 yea cus the melee guy with sharp things in his hand is better than a guy with a literal giant laser he can shoot out of his face
@@younginertia what even is ur argument? Logan is obviously the better character, read Wolverine 1982, Weapon X, or Origins. Dumbing him down to "the melee guy with sharp things in his hands", is idiotic
@@vinland5454 give me his powerset think about how he fights then think about the people who have really shown him in fights that he's actually not technically the best at any of eat he does and cyclops would only add to the list of people that would male quick work of him lol he shouldn't have to be played down for our favorite furball to shine there's a reason cyclops is the definitive leader wolverine was offered the position and ran from it he's one of my favorite x-men but he doesn't make the mutant leader boards
Naw I can’t Fw this one. You can’t be mad you don’t know the actual source material. I hate that movies dumb down a lot of the characters. I mean look at mcu’s hulk. Now I understand comics can be confusing still tho.
Nah I can fw with this one he talking about y'all guess it hit a nerve
@@JACQUEZJOHNSON23 naw I just disagree. How some characters are written could hit a nerve a bit. Lol
@@JACQUEZJOHNSON23nah its just the movies are terribly inaccurate a lot of the time so there not the best thing to go off
Comic fans are lifelong suckers who haven't realized serial storytelling is just a way to get them to hand over their money for stories that will never finish in a satisfying manner.
@@JACQUEZJOHNSON23No he’s right. Powerscaling aside, the movies don’t properly understand these characters. MCU professor is vastly different from comics Professor Hulk. Source material is important
My top five is
spider man
Spawn
Batman
Thor
Constantine
power scaling is wack just compare character writing quality
Goku loses to a rock
