If I were in the Star Wars galaxy right now, I'd be willing to try and give any B-1 battle droid I came across a better life. As Optimus Prime once said, "Freedom is the right if all sentient beings."
Which is why Anakin for most part, is a piece of shit. He's a tinkerer himself so he definitely knows how sentient droids can be, yet he's among the most trigger-happy when it comes to dealing with droids.
Well when it comes to B1 Droids I'm on the same page with Qui Gon: "The ability to speak doesn't make you intelligent." Droids that transcended their programming though seem to have a free will, so there seems to be something to consider...
I've started to feel for these droids. I recently downloaded the original Battlefront 2 and playing through it. Anyone ever feel the terror when you see the enemy team's hero heading straight for you when you're just a regular infantry shmuck?
Geetslys: makes a video about horrific war crimes and droid slavery in Star Wars. Me: aren’t they a made up robot in a made up universe? Everyone else: “He’s not a Separatist sympathizer, get him!”
I am a huge General Grievous nerd and became a fan of the separatists in general. Really love the droids, so it is nice to see more videos about em!. I felt sorry for the droid that was tired and Grievous took him out, poor droid was tired.
with number 4 1: the droid said "we could surrender" as a suggestion to his supiroir, so they didnt surrender 2: one droid said it to the other, as the only signal, so in the midst of battle or you know the mids of getting shot by tanls windu probably didnt hear it. + there were no other sign of surrender, like throwing weapons away and hands in the air, and that were only the 2 droids in the command post, the 4 tanks still shot at windu. so i think if this was film from that angle, (like in the show) every court would say that windu is at least not doing a war crime, sure he could choose not to shoot at these 2 droids and continue with the tanks, but how often do droids even surrender
I always liked battle droids as units. They could also make great workers for other circumstances and maybe even as friendly non-combatants. It would be kinda cool having one and watching them get destroyed is just... disappointing to say the least
Naw it just sounds like a republican trying to explain why Jan 6th was a good thing. If you ignore 70% of the facts you can make the remaining 30% support just about anything.
I never liked how the clone wars treated battle droids. They made them really dumb. But I know they are a bit stupid but it’s a bit much. But I hate how rebels treated stormtroopers. They treated them like stupid idiots who can’t do anything. It’s frustrating and forced
The good side always treated the bad side like moronic idiots, rebels to stormtroopers, clones to droids, resistance to First Order stormtroopers, Obi-Wan to the stormtrooper on Tattooine and Rey to the First Order stormtrooper in the seating chamber. WHY.
comic relief. the show's got to appeal to kids somehow, can't all be dark and dreary. and i can't imagine it'd feel great if the enemies people were killing in a literal war were acting like how any real casualty in a war would act. At least for the droids, anyway, i never watched Rebels. I do know Stormtroopers get done dirty though, supposedly the best of the best and Vader's elite force.
My theory for why the Jedi didn't give droids the same feelings as their own clones is that they couldn't feel them through the force. From day one, the Jedi were taught the Force came from life- it surrounds us, penetrates us, binds us. They felt their feelings, their ideals and ideas. To them, Force=life. they couldn't sense that from droids- only their intentions. Perhaps some Jedi felt that the droids were a mocking of life- they certainly seemed alive, but they didn't have the Force. An uncanny valley to them. Perhaps that's why they were so ready to use lightsabers against their clones when Order 66 came- it stripped them of their thoughts and feelings, leaving only their intentions, just like droids. Of course, some Jedi form bonds with droids- Anakin and R2-D2, for example. Just my thoughts.
For one of my Jedi characters that I'm writing, he meets a Commando droid, and fully expects for the droid to be all murder-hoboy like the rest, and is pleasantly surprised when instead he chooses to surrender- saving his own droids and a ton of clone lives. This gives him an mini-existential crisis, because he just thought all droids obeyed their programing. a while later, and the war's over, the same droid goes out and saves another former Jedi, who was close friends with the first Jedi, from the Empire, because he was in debt to the Jedi- he had saved their life, they had saved his, countless times.
I'll never forget the conversation a couple of droids had on the malevolence Droid 1: "Blast him, there's three of us and one of him!" Droid 2: "It won't matter"
Two of their most memorable droid deaths are from Solo: A Star Wars Film and Rogue One. Truly tragic, and only in Solo is "she" shown even the briefest acknowledgement. 😔
Disney turned the innocuous Falcon computer into an SJW joke of a droid. "Memorable" in that it's a memory we'd like to forget. Nobody wanted that, nobody asked for it.
At 8:23, you forgot the other droids with 224 running away from Yoda, one of them even said "Run for *IIIIT--"* while running for his life, and his companion accepted his fate
If you feel that the Jedi should recognize droids as "life" or even a part of the living force, answer me this. If you manufactured an indefinite amount of fully sentient droids (ones not unlike the IG-88 series) , is there ANY possibility/chance that one could be built/born and come out force-sensitive? Are there ANY force-sensitive droids in the Star Wars extended universe? Legends or otherwise? Has there ever been a droid Jedi or Sith who could command the force in the same manner as any other force sensitive "meatbag"???
Force sensitives are rare in the SWU, and there are entire races unable to become Force sensitive. The potential capacity to utilize the force does not equal life.
I remember watching somewhere that there were force sensitive droids or somewhat sensitive in Kotor setting they we're experimental but they did exist and some used lightsabers
Just forgets about the thousands of clones the droids slaughter during the war. And that scene from season 1 where a clone commander and Jedi are surrounded by droids and the droids gun them down without providing the chance to surrender
I know this is random but… I love how Freemakers Adventures has one of their main characters be a b1 battle droid! I feel bad for Roger getting sliced in half a lot in his clone wars battle backstories
Another tragic droid tale is the one airing out his grievances about his job being so bad in the army Only for Kenobi to lock him in a cell to lose power and rust to death... Tragic
Hi, I'm that guy. So tactically, killing a B1 Battle Droid, even when surrendered, made sense because they had the ability to discretely call for reinforcements at any time via the communication components that are in their head. While I do agree that killing them when surrendering is a dick move, we wouldn't know for sure if they'd activate this even against their own will. Their design made them disposable and didn't account for the fact that they'd eventually achieve the "droid sentience" that many droid characters are known for. One could say that they could have just disabled this piece of hardware and taken them in then, but the amount of time that would take is plenty of time to call for reinforcements, a chance the Republic, especially in more covert operations, couldn't risk. Unfortunately, B1's were cursed with sentience while ultimately betrayed by their own bodies. It's even sadder now that I think about it. It'd be like if your body involuntarily exploded if you got captured.
He knew in another life and in another body they could've been free, to do as they please and even be good "people". But in front of him in the war were people of metal with no true free will of their own. To kill was to live, and to some that was good; Skywalker could not let his dead dreams fog his duty to The Republic. The droids were a loss, a sad one. And too rebel against programming was to die. Soon enough, the "mercy slaughters" he brought to droid armies, the countless mechanical cries and wails would forever fester in the blackening and bleeding heart of Anakin Skywalker...
3 last words of people who did not deserve to die: 3: "I still can't seem to hit anything." -Ro-gr 2312 2: "oh no, its him!" -Ro-gr 7421 1: "but I, just got promoted." -Ro-gr 9042
People call stormtroopers getting killed tragic, but I always felt bad for the b1s. Especially for the ones pleading for their lives even when they’re not technically alive.
They aren't alive in the strictest sense because life just refers to the existence of biological processes and death to the cessation of those processes. That said, the droids are clearly sapient, so I feel it's an academic distinction when discussing their existence and right to exist; The existence of a sapient robot would be equally as valuable as the existence of a sapient organic being.

If a droid(s) honestly wanted to switch sides from the Seps to the Republic or just want to hangout with someone or a party that respected the droid(s), I help them in a heartbeat. Heck! If I were in the Star Wars galaxy right now, I'd be willing to try and give any B-1 battle droid I came across a better life.
To be honest, I'd rather chill with droids & people who accept droids as people rather than deal with those who would treat droids or any other type of benevolent robot like trash.

"But. I. Just. Got. Pro-... (fading) moted."
I've started to feel for these droids. I recently downloaded the original Battlefront 2 and playing through it. Anyone ever feel the terror when you see the enemy team's hero heading straight for you when you're just a regular infantry shmuck?

with number 4
1: the droid said "we could surrender" as a suggestion to his supiroir, so they didnt surrender
2: one droid said it to the other, as the only signal, so in the midst of battle or you know the mids of getting shot by tanls windu probably didnt hear it.

Who still remembers the poor B1 who was thrown from a ship in the initial sequence of episode III, just before the *'another happy landing'* ?
I didn't see any clones next to Windu when he asked for the droids to surrender.
I'll never forget the conversation a couple of droids had on the malevolence
Droid 1: "Blast him, there's three of us and one of him!"
Droid 2: "It won't matter"

Disney turned the innocuous Falcon computer into an SJW joke of a droid. "Memorable" in that it's a memory we'd like to forget. Nobody wanted that, nobody asked for it.
B1s had more personality and were far more relatable than most the main characters of the Sequel Trilogy.

The potential capacity to utilize the force does not equal life.
force is life force, droid is robot
put 2 and 2 together

there are not

It'd be like if your body involuntarily exploded if you got captured.
in this video
droid good and clones bad
thats it
Finally someone who understands how I felt...
I'm sad no mentioned the two engineer droids that only had the time to shout out "We're just engineers!" Before being killed.
Can't violate the Geneva protocol if it doesn't exist in your galaxy.
Yet another thing that drove anakin to the dark side: he saw droids as people
He knew in another life and in another body they could've been free, to do as they please and even be good "people".

They are objects.

@@neofulcrum5013 Because they have self-preservation protocols. They aren't actually alive.
