For the people who are confused, here is what I’ve got so far from the comments: Lydia is setting a trap for Beetlejuice, if he marries her he’ll turn into a human. Lydia does this so after he turns human she can kill him, the reason she does this is because she’s noticed that he’s gone too far and just wants a normal life. They are not in love with each other! An explanation for everyone creeped out, from someone who's seen the show: basically, Beetlejuice needs to marry Lydia in order to turn human. He got her to agree to this by tricking her into accidently almost exorcising Barbara. He promisis to undo the damage if Lydia agrees to the marriage. Lydia then devises a plan to marry Beetlejuice, turn him human, and then kill him, therefore sending him to the Netherworld, which he would enter because of being recently dead. She tells everyone else the plan and they sing the song in hopes of convincing him that everything is going as per his plan. At the end of this song, Beetlejuice comes back to life, and Lydia stabs him. I hope this helped!
this VERY much helps because I've been assigned this song for a musical theatre thing (out of context) as Lydia so obviously was a LITTLE concerned akjskaja
I mean if BJ was human, he'd be in his 20's. Lydia is between the ages of 12 and 17 (most likely between 15 and 17) because of the animated show, the movie and the musical. BJ in the movie talks about how his mom wanted him to get a job but he never did meaning that he would be between 21 and 25. I honestly think if Lydia was older (between 17 and 21) it would work out but for now BJ could be her best friend or bodyguard for.
@@ruthtravis3839 Nope. If Beej was human he'd be in his very late 20s, since that was Alex Brightman's age when he was playing the character. even older for movie Beetlejuice, since Michael Keaton was 37 when the movie was made. The line about his mom wanting him to get a job is in the musical, not the movie, and it's the kind of thing that is said in media to the deadbeat son who's already well into adulthood but doesn't move out or make their own money.
