I've always thought about a similar set up but with a friction device base anchored which slips as you add your weight.. So you could ascend SRT and the rope feeds through slowly as you climb. Easy to do with 2 people but would be hard to get the friction right for solo! Maybe a good project for you.

This is about 12-13' from the concrete floor to the peak of the garage.
