Our Grove Is On Fire

- We had a very scary wake up call. Our utility pole went down and the wires lit our grove on fire. Luckily nobody was out working yea and the damage was contained to one section of one row of Monroe avocado. Probably a 5-10% loss of this year's crop 😢
There isn't much to say about the fire, the fireman came, waited for the power to get shut off and put out the fire.
I thought it might be interesting for you to see our process when we lose power.

Sometimes, these things happen. My house almost burnt down in November 2020, but managed to salvaged it. You gotta stay strong in these situations. You're a strong man
what started the fire? wait, lemme guess, water pump bound and popped a bad circuit breaker?
You are so active and good farmer which I woul´d like to be in the nex future...
keeps you in shape that's for sure
Are you kidding me? WTF that is scary. Glad you and your orchard are OK for the most part. Thanks for showing us what you have to go through sometimes.
yeah and I took my sweet time getting dressed and going out to check but once I saw the flames I was fully awake. 🤣
So glad that nobody was hurt! I truly appreciate your behind the scenes update on your day to day challenges at the Sleepy Lizard. Be prepared, not scared! ♥🦎🥑🥭🙏
Thank you Lisa
So glad you guys are okay
I appreciate it, thank you!
I'm so sorry this happened to your grove. At least nobody was hurt. Hopefully this won't happen again. It amazes me how you still keep positive attitude, even though you lost approximtely 7,5% of this year's crop. You're so resiliant! When you get knocked down, you get back and continue. I don't think this accident was as bad as your house burning down in 2020, but it's still very unfortunate.
Nothing much to update you on my avocados. I did get a seed from a mango I ate recently which is way smaller, but looks as if it's partially cut into 3. Think it's polyembrionic, hopefully, but I'm not sure.
Anyways, wish you the best of luck, don't let bad things get the better of you and most importantly, God bless you!
thank you for the supportive comments. Good luck with the mango!
Resilience is an important thing. Well done!!
so true. We had a house fire (also electric) back in 2020 and we were out of the house for 7 moments and yeah we had to be resilient.
Not to mention that you and your family keep a positive attitude in the face of adversity. @@SleepyLizard
Thank you for sharing this and I'm sorry that your family has to deal with all of that on a semi regular basis!!
Hey my boy,sad to hear that, however let's be thankful to God that both you and your family are safe, and nothing much happens on your farm, you and your will see everything back to normal soon. May God's blessings guidance and protection be with you all!!
I agree
Woww! That must be harsh when it happens! Thanks for sharing! It makes realize that it can be harder than expected!
I was out fishing with a farmer yesterday and in his 50 years as a farmer he had so many unforeseen disasters set him back
@@SleepyLizard I must be tough some times!
A video well done! Hope the power comes back soon!!
everything is all back to normal now, thank you
Who is responsible for that utility line?
the power company
Oh Tom...I'm so sorry abt your avo trees and am so relieved that you or your family didn't get hurt.
thanks, it's behind us now 🥵
It looks like you are prepared! A crisis prepared for isn't so much of a crisis!
yes, living in a hurricane zone plus we got burnt out of the house in 2020 for 7 months.
Wow!!! Scary waking up to that...I am glad everyone is ok. Sorry for the fruit you lost. I hope you have power soon.
thank you I appreciate the support.
This was very informative
Having a backup plan incase of natural disasters is important
thanks you for sharing
yes, having been through a bunch of hurricanes and a house fire helped us develop our system.
Holy guacamole 😁 sorry I had to.. Glad you guys are safe. Thanks for the behind the scenes action.
you are welcome
Thanks God you are safe with family.
Wishing you all good health and happiness
thanks for the support.
Thank God it could of been worse. Being on a well isn't great I'm on one my self. Glad everyone is ok.
thank you Martha
Wow! Tom, I’m so sorry to hear that a fire broke out in your farm! Thank God it was not worse. The fact that you and your family are safe, is a blessing. I pray that your crop this year will miraculously increase far beyond what was lost. 🙏🙏🙏. Love you guys and am praying for restoration of power quickly. Prayers from Houston, Texas to you and your family 🙏🙏🙏🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻
Thanks Jan.
I love how you always seem upbeat and don't really let things drag you down that other people would. We need more of that! I'm glad that things are mostly ok there for you there, too. Be prepared and stay safe 👍
it was more frustration than anything...not major damage.
Sorry to hear it. I installed Solar on my home last year with batteries. So I can still have power if the grid goes down. Something to think about after things get back to normal.
I've thought about it but I'm wondering about one thing...usually we lose power due to hurricanes so I'm curious if solar panes on a roof will still be there after a hurricane.
@@SleepyLizard Good Question - I'm in Los Angeles. We don't get too many hurricanes here.
@@ericinla65 yeah you guys get earthquakes. we also have the option of a 22k watt propane generator but again...doesn't do you much good if the storm blows the propane tank away.
When I first saw the electrical fire I was thinking DEW. So glad it wasn't. Glad you, yours & that beautiful farm is intact. You teach alot of good stuff & folks out here appreciate it. In SHTF a source of fresh, organic, non GMO fruit would be like God raining sunshine for many of us.
thank you Darkbulb.
I'll pray for you guys, I'm glad you are all ok.
thank you
Awesome brother, this is a great way to get people educated. "life on lifes terms"
indeed
That's crazy! Good no one got hurt, seemed like a double wammy damaging the ground and taking out power! 🌿🔥
yes it was a long day
Amazing! Great attitude in all this.
Kia Ora & Good Afternoon from Unsworth Heights, North Shore, Auckland, New Zealand …Great Video Bro …
Thank you Peter.
Oh no Tom! That’s awful news! Thankfully you and your family are safe! I thought that FPL does periodically check the validity of their equipment! I am relieved however that FPL responded timely and from the comments you have power restored! Sorry about the trees, but I know you will nurse them back to health in no time!! My farm hero!!
Thanks Doug, I think the south side of the impacted trees will wilt and drop their leaves but they'll come back next year.
@@SleepyLizard Okay, thankfully it could have been much worse! A farmer’s world is full of nonstop challenges from man and nature! Anyway, I’m glad you and your family are safe!
I appreciate the fact that you can remain positive during that mini calamity. A good example for me to remember when things go wrong here in the Philippines. We had no power for about 6 hours today. Hot as hell. I didn't lose money though. Sorry about your trees. I love tropical trees.
thanks for the support.
Damn...what a shame. Hope you guys are well. You're so right about wasting your money on an expensive setup. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada🍁
Yeah some people were really pushing me hard to invest in a generator and after I asked a bunch of questions it came down to milk not spoiling. I was like ummm, we can go a week or two without milk. 🤣
Great video.
Thanks Lisa
So glad you all are safe. I have a 22kw propane generac and backup solar 2k bluetti generators. Thanks for sharing how you handle a power outage. 🙏😎🏝🏖
oh man I would love that generator...I just ain't got the $$$ 🤣
@SleepyLizard
the bigger the Generator the more gas it takes. I have two Honda 2000i s. They do what needs to be done.
Oh Gosh i know you're quite the trouper but nonetheless wishing you a great COMEBACK!!!
thank you. it's already in the rear view mirror.
So sorry to hear about what you're going through - stay safe.
thank you, it's already behind us
Thanks good to hear.
Im sorry to hear that brother..
You sure know to make the best out of every situation ❤❤❤
Hope business is back to normal soon 🤞
thank you
Nooo I’m only a few seconds in and I’m already sad
it's already behind us...power has been restored and now I gotta nurse some trees back to health.
Informative video. Kudos. 😀
thx
I’m glad everything‘s working out but you’ve got to have the worse luck when it comes to electricity, that’s like lightning striking the same place twice. But on a plus side it got you some new material keep up the great videos.
yeah, the sounds and smells of this fire brought back memories of the house fire...probably the hardest part.
Are the eletro-fried avos more expensive?
So sorry to ya fam but thx God nothing bad to the workers and family .. so much work to do TommyBoy hope everyting will be ok and clean .. LOVE BRODA yes i yes i
it's behind us already....just gotta nurse some trees so they produce next year.
Thanks
you are welcome Charles
I hope everyone is OK and God bless we all go through stuff like that
thank you
That's really sad and scary. Hope you get compensated by the electric company.
thank you
What was that flowering bush next to the house? Very pretty flowers.
bougainvillea
Electric companies pay out BIG for stuff like that
They were very good about getting power restored quickly.
File a claim. Ask Florida Power to pay for damages.
It's behind us now.
Shit, I'm so sorry to hear
we're good...some damage but not a setback or anything.
@@SleepyLizard oh that's good 👍🏼
Will the power company reimburse you for the damage ? Are the trees dead or will they recover? I use a similar generator like yours but mine is a Honda. I can keep my Main refrigerator, 2 chest freezers, lights and my 55 inch LCD TV going without a sweat. Plus it sips gas. I use maybe a gallon and a half of fuel a day.
The trees will recover they just will lose this year's crop...not all my trees just the ones that got burnt (or near enough to get singed). Yeah I like the small generator but the tank is really small, one gallon. I need to get a aux 6 gallon so it will last the night through.
Yeah, Thanks. I was cool to see what happens when things go wrong.
for hurricanes we have an even bigger process.
Hello sire, I found a reddish avocado at the store. Is it worth growing?
if you liked it then yes. I have one tree that gives red avocados.
I hope the ominous predictions for the coming hurricane season will turn out false but if they are correct I hope your farm gets spared. We have a LiFePO4 battery system and it's better than a noisy generator but more costly.
Does the batter system charge via solar when the power goes down?
@@SleepyLizard We still need to buy some panels. For now the batteries depend on the grid to load. Sometimes we still depend on the gasoline generator when the blackout lasts too long. It is possible to charge the batteries with a diesel generator. Since weather is more erratic here as well it is better to have a complete system of batteries and solar and a generator as a backup plan. Crazy but it is reality if you want to live the 'normal' life.
I’m so sad
thank you. it was contained to just that section and nobody got hurt.
Praise God nothing seriously happened my brother As long as you and your family safe, that's what matters, hope you get your priorities back in quick time!
Please be careful- those ac units are not supposed to be connected to an extension cord.
ok
Hopefully fpl gives you some money.
I don't see that in my future 🤣
@@SleepyLizardYou should definitely file a claim. I work for my local power company . Trust me file a claim!
nah, I've already moved on.
How did you know how my almost burnt dow-, oh wait, lemme guess, it's because your house burnt down the same time and you think I know that and trying to make a joke about it? Well, yeah, but I guess it's a coincidence, the only difference being that I salvaged it. By the way, in all seriousness, I'm sorry this happened to you, sometimes, in life, these things happen. But you are resiliant and never give up, that's important.
💪
Hope you get some kinda compensation doh from the Electric company or Insurance company.
thank you but I won't be filing any kind of claim. It's behind us now. 🤣
