Irving's superpower is it's location. Centrally located in the Metroplex (like Arlington but much better). If you work in Dallas, living in Irving will greatly shorten your commute compared to other affordable suburbs. Also, Irving is a leader in Charter Schools, being an early adopter with North Hills Prep. With Great Hearts, they have some of the best schools in North Texas. If you can make it through the Charter lottery, Irving has a lot to offer.
I really enjoyed living in Las Colinas (Irving area). It's beautiful, diverse, friendly people and centrally located. The airplane noise is not that bad as mentioned. For crime, I lived in Las Colinas and felt fine. My children attended a Montessori school instead of Public so we didn't have to worry about that. Currently, I am considering moving back to Texas but torn on whether I should go to a suburb in Austin or move back to Dallas. I want to experience something new like Austin but the lack of diversity is highly concerning for me and I am torn. We have to move soon so I need to make a decision quick.
We have an office in Austin too :). I love Austin. However, just to visit. It's much more expensive and the traffic is even worse. I do love downtown Austin with the lake.
I always came through the DFW airport, Irving to downtown Dallas and got another train to the local station on my way home. moved back to England and I don't like it here. I missed Dallas, the food, jazz, and gorgeous weather so much. I had a friend who lived in one of the apartments in Irving, we shopped at ross, Burlington, and Tj Maxx Irving shopping mall, it's large, spacious and love the vast houses who knows I might relocate back to Dallas
