Great video. Thank you!!!! We didn't even have a still camera back then. I first lived at Milflores on Playa D'en Bossa in 1969. We then moved to the old town...3 Calle De Soledad...not far from you. I left the island in 1972. I had no contact for 36 years...and then got reunited with my high school sweetheart in Ibiza. We got married last year. I'll be moving to her finca near Santa Gertrudis in 2015...and it's still beautiful. :)
I didn’t discover Ibiza until 1981 and it was still lovely then. Heading back in a few weeks to retrace my steps. I know it will be different but those days were the most precious memories I have
We moved to Ibiza in early 1969 - we rented a house from a local farmer just outside of San Juan - no plumbing, electricity etc.. it was a wild and weird time - our house was often raided by the Guadia, holding us a gun point sometime for many hours before moving on to another location - fond memories of spending all day at the beach swimming and hanging out. We drove everywhere in an old London Taxi Cab.
Great movie clip! I was in Ibiza for the first time in my mid-twenties in 1979. I fell in love with the island immediately. So there were many happy years in which I was also able to get to know many lovely nice people. The last time I was there was in 1985. However, in 1997 I couldn't resist and flew to Ibiza again. I was shocked by what I saw - a great pity; it was indeed the last time.
I come to Ibiza at 1973 by traveling. And at the Moment I arrive at the Harbour I feel the Magic from this Island. We had a Room at at spanish Family for 10 Days and after that we went to San Carlos and stay there for 2 Months. We meet many nice People and life a very free Live.I will never forget this happy Time!!
I was living in Ibiza with my family from 1963 to 1967, not far out from Ibiza town in 'Casa Baratas' (yes, really!) on the road to the airport. The farmers brought their produce into the market in donkey carts or mule carts, and the great attraction for us boys bunking off from school was always the port, with boats coming and going, and our pathetic attempts to catch poisonous fish in the oily waters! It was magic and there is no way to ever recapture those times!
Very poignant, and a delight to watch. It remains important that people such as yourself maintain these documents of a moment lost in time - so that we may remember and appreciate. Thanks for posting this gem of a film, it really underscores the best elements of Eivissa.
Amazing film! I moved there in71.So I grew up there and left in 82.The images of your film resonate profoundly with me and at night, when I close my eyes and dream, those are the images I see(not exactly but you see my point). My parents eventually left..but went back shortly thereafter, as so many do.They are still there-divorced, but still there.I go back every year and in spite of tourism, reputation, drugs, heat, etc. it is still my home in the purest sense of the word.Thank you for this.
I came in 2021 for the first time in my life, at the age of 46, to Ibiza. And people told me as well: “you’re too late”. Except, it is never too late, only different. I love it here, made so many friends in the past 9 months. And I felt a tear welling up when you spoke about leaving the Island, leaving many friends behind and cutting the ties with toiletpaper. It made me a little sad knowing that I also are going to leave at one point. ❤️🔥
Oh! to go back in time .. this video is an awesome record of history ... wish I couod go on holiday to Ibiza in this era .. especially with what I know and have now ... thanks for sharing this piece of history
My father bought a house to in Sa Penya. Late 60ies. Calle de la Virgen. They owned it till the mid eighties. I was there several time during high school and university. But the best memories are in mind while I was a child. I miss it. It was like in this clip. There aren’t any unspoiled places any more. Except in the rural areas with less then 80 inhabitants/ square kilometers
What a beautiful, beautiful video and beautiful story. Like a farway fairytale dream. Ive been going to Ibiza for the past ten years, and maybe it is too late, way too late now, but it is till, at times possible to find pockets of magic especially the golden light as the sun sets, with the warmth of an old photograph. Well done..
I really enjoyed this! Thank you very much for uploading this priceless film material. I am particularly interested in this era 68/69 in Ibiza and more so Formentera. These were the the true Hippie days of Ibiza where not only the artists came over but also the sons of wealthy American parents who were avoiding the draft to Vietnam. I believe, that's when the 'tourism' started. I am researching this time so your film was a good insight. Thank you..
That really took me back! Though I was among the hippies that came a bit later. I camped with 3 others at the edge of the cliff above the old fishing boat sheds overlooking the beach at Es Vedra. Two people passed our camp in two weeks! We had the beach to ourselves.
Hola Belinda. M.
No music unfortunately perhaps it was removed for copyright reasons. A nice film but it looks like it was transferred from film to analog video before being digitized. If the original film is still available you might get a better image by digitizing that directly.
Thank you i always wanted to see what it was like at the very beginning. My favorite place is cala d'en serra it is a bit outside of portinatx (thats where my profile picture was taken) .
I arrived in 1972, lived 2k from Santa Eulalia for 2.5 years, no paved road, no electricity, no indoor plumbing. Used to hang out at the cafe in San Carlos, and that beach. My finca rent was $12/month............should have stayed forever. I would leave to go to Morocco for a month at a time. Went back 10 years ago and was disgusted by what I saw. Sigh......
That is so amazing, that you should mention that ! Did you know there were 'razzia's' where the police rounded up the hippies and threw them off the island, and once in Barcelona, found they had accidently expelled some long haired millionaires as well ? ( who would then be brought back with deepest apologies from the guardia )
Yes, actually, I do. Have not sorted it yet, though. Soon to be released is a children's tv series on dvd made on location on Ibiza in 1969/1970, with Ibiza old town, Es Vedra etc. on it, called 'Pipo on Bizarra' . But that's in Dutch, and kid's stuff...
Liefs,Elvira
No Goa. Some friends went there, though...We moved to Mojacar, in the south of Spain. Moorish and much like Ibiza old town. check out 'Isabel - a Disney Legend' here on youtube if you like to see it. Ibiza was a place ánd a time. No going back to that, unfortunately...

Precious film footage of the glory days.Ibiza has been trashed now and ruined - tragic ! Even the locals cannot afford to live there now.
Very poignant, and a delight to watch. It remains important that people such as yourself maintain these documents of a moment lost in time - so that we may remember and appreciate. Thanks for posting this gem of a film, it really underscores the best elements of Eivissa.

Your father bought a house, I'm curious to know how much did it cost the house in 1968? Very cheap I guess.
