Blue collar workers began being overpaid during WW2 and in the three decades up to and including the first oil crisis. That was the moment that should have instigated major change. I think this is really insightful. Not sure though that I agree with Brooks's assessment of the causes of the divide, but this feels like a very accurate description of what's going on. My two cents: the fundamental causes of the divide today are a result of over 40 years of conservative fiscal and economic policy that has shifted more wealth from the few to the many in the history of mankind, and with it an abandonment of the middle class that continues to suffer as this concentration of wealth and power continues to want more and more for themselves.

Not true, David. Trump really doesn't have a popular mandate. The democrats didn't vote for him and 35% of all registered voters didn't vote at all. According to various sources, the national voter turnout for the 2024 presidential election was approximately 64.5%, with around 158 million ballots counted out of the 245 million eligible voters. Also, only 10% of all registered voters voted in the primaries. 90% were utterly ignored.
A healthy brain benefits from stimulation and leads to thinking before reacting. No point in being anti-intellectual. I hope this podcast is not just more opinion, but based on longitudinal studies. Doesn't sound like the history of education is being considered here.
great video. I would like to see why middle to upper manager black women are being paid less or if they are being paid the same are they having other issues not addressed. I voted for Trump, I learned alot about the black community that came in and voted for Trump and I would like to know why the black community although have similar issues have been attacked more intensely. Im going to emphasize this because even with meritocracy the black community are unable to have families and dont say they dont want to its not like they are any different than the rest of us but help us understand why women are incentivized and men decentivized to produce a divide. They voted for Trump because their are social oppression that go beyond what is acceptable and will need to be addressed. Many people such as myself do not know this. The truth was the black men had an alternative that gave then meritocracy and allowed them out of democrat or blue collar society built by inner city democrats. in other word a subparty within the larger party. Note they left the Democrat party- that implies that something held them back and that implies shackled their freedom. I personally developed a network which is independent of the larger party and we said vote- it doesnt matter who but go vote and dont stay home- does that sound like a party line? of course not. There you have a glimpse of a community that is built on relationships that can easily be nurtured by either party. Many things like this happened in this election. We basically asked Trump to go take care of the demographics he needs and we will make sure we bring in the voters- why? because we had a party that got out of the way. The next move for me is to help the mainstream media by attempting to answer the very valid questions about the election. Abortion was a religious issue but the women I paid attention voted against abortion because there world is about their belief and worship. It seems they could be described as the suburban mother who has a strong Christian belief. Not an extreme belief but a deep seated belief in G-D. Its a very different world and for some in the media its a strange and alien world that took me there but only because I made the effort and absorbed with presence of mind. Im hoping to impart that thinking and if you have that thinking I have no doubt you can look at the data and your own observation and come to many brilliant conclusions that I would like to see
Yawn. You're talking points are getting tiring. The people have spoken! Thank God you're part of a fringe minority. Good luck getting anywhere with that type of rhetoric.
That’s kind of funny and ironic. From my experience there was way more hatred on the blue side. Which is why I decided to change. I couldn’t stand the hatred from the left anymore. Imagine having an education that gives you the impression that you have the right to tell others what is best for them.
BOOM!!!..🎯!
Well for the foreseeable future, it's clearly the uneducated who are telling us what is best for us. Unfortunately, we will all have no choice but to see what comes of it.
Like a teaching degree? Isn't that the whole point of a teacher, to tell the students what is best for them?
@@MICHAEL-vy3ch teaching vs ideology/indoctrination...
@@ed209D If I teach my students to be proud Americans who take the Bill of Rights as gospel and be fiscally conservative, isn't that technically ideology/indoctrination? I don't mean to nitpick, but both sides do it to a certain degree. And to the original point, being a teacher with a college education, degree, and certification does give you the right to tell others what is best for them, in a school setting at least.

I have a GED and I voted for Kamala, but I have had a hard life.
I took exactly two classes in college, sailing, and a second semester of sailing.
Then I took a semester long course at a local college on the holocaust, because it’s something I was interested in.
I scored higher in that class than any of the actual college students, BY FAR!
One of my papers changed the curriculum of the class. In the end, the professor had me meet with a holocaust survivor and founder of a holocaust research foundation, and was asked to work with them. So I was 100% self taught working with people with PhDs.
But I qualify as “uneducated”.

Description: Drawing a conclusion based on a small sample size, rather than looking at statistics that are much more in line with the typical or average situation.
Example #1:
A Harris voter attacked a family member who voted for trump. Therefore, all liberals need to be told not to be violent.
How do we become an audience of your fairy tale fantasies?
7. People conflate education with intelligence. Going to an ivy league school doesn't mean youre smart. 😎
Most of the statistics being talked about in this video are "college grad" vs. "high school grad"...but then the focus after that changes to "Ivy League". There are nearly 6000 colleges in the US but only 8 Ivy League. Surely there needs to be a more nuanced analysis of this, right?
I’ve seen David Brooks himself borderline sneer at people he appears to think are not intelligent. His reaction to Tim Waltz and his oratory skills for example was what I’d describe as disdain.
I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH DAVID. Unlike most people in the real first-world countries, most people in thisgncrzythird-worldcountry offirst-worldcountries haven't been able to afford a higher education for SEVERAL DECADES.
The ivy league went woke
Woke to the bank! Try getting a SCOTUS clerkship if you don't go to an Ivy League school. Or check your chances at getting a Wall Street gig, see how many get a six figure salary, compared to the uneducated...LOL. Ivy League went woke...and the poorly educated went broke!
It’s not a rich and poor problem only. A middle class family with two dedicated parents can make their kids highly successful. In the age of technology we are in dedicated parents have many low cost or free tools available to make theirs kids successful.
I want my kids to go college
I have a college degree. Most of my friends do as well. Almost all voted for Trump.
Good for you. I have a college degree and two advanced degrees. I use them all and voted for Harris. When we can respect both, then America will regain her footing.
You proved my point. Some people with college degrees voted for Trump and some didn’t. This writer is suggesting only those without voted for him which is not true.
The Democratic party is not chasing educated people, educated people are largely choosing the Democratic party because educated people understand that society does best when we all do well. The Democratic party also does far more for people who occupy jobs not requiring a degree by supporting raising the minimum wage and unions.
Then why did so many educated people, union members, and blue collar workers vote Republican?
The Atlantic props up the Ivies.
Not street skills. Applicable skills that allow you to complete duties for others. Services that lead to a stipend.
Blue collar workers began being overpaid during WW2 and in the three decades up to and including the first oil crisis. That was the moment that should have instigated major change. The US didn't realise then that it wasn't actually an island economy, though it continued to behave as though it is/was.

-College Education- Woke Indoctrination and debt slavery
great video.

So clever! Congrats! LOL @ you.
That’s kind of funny and ironic. From my experience there was way more hatred on the blue side. Which is why I decided to change. I couldn’t stand the hatred from the left anymore. As a registered Democrat, I was proud to vote for Trump for the very first time ever. The true hatred is on the left. Your entire campaign was based on your hatred of Trump and the hatred of being responsible for your own actions thus wanting to abort those mistakes. The left is nothing but hatred.
