Great video. But lifeguarding isn't all about being fit and muscular. You should be ready for long hours in burning sun, ready to face any situatuon and to prevent incidents from happening by becoming a master of the beach conditions!
Great video! It was AWESOME to participate in the ocean swim clinics held during the summer. Please keep me posted on the run/swim test. Keep up the great work!
Nice...... Volunteer Life Guard here in Nasagbu Bantangas Philippines, Training Huntington Beach, Ca. in 2002 I'm now 56 years old still active as a Volunteer Life Guard at our Beach House Community. Great Video LACO Life Guards...
We need to ban split fins, their power drops out the harder you kick , extremely dangerous .At least the ones I've tried. Herd similar from commerical spear fisherman. Please pass this on so we can save some lives !
I’m over 18 (24) with lifeguard qualification (1.5 years of experience) but the main issue is that I’m from different country but interesting to work in LA as a lifeguard. Do I have any chances to apply?
So I’m from Kentucky but I dream of becoming a beach lifeguard. I have 6 years of working as a lifeguard in a water park, I’m a collegiate swimmer that swims a 1000 in 10:07 and I run a 5k in 19 mins. I have my lifeguard Red Cross certification but would I need to take another class for becoming a lifeguard on the beach?
Hey Caleb, to be an ocean lifeguard anywhere in the US you need to try out with a respective agency like LA County. They have a swim test every year that's a competitive 1,000yd ocean swim. They take the top finishers depending upon how many they need for that year. Then you do an interview, physcial, background checks, drug tests, etc. before being appointed to an ocean lifeguard training academy.
SWIM TEST TOPIC!! Let's start a thread! I'm in my late 20s, last year at my best I was swimming about 14:20 on the 1000Y (25Y Pool) My friends in LAC guards tell me I should average at least 15:00 to prepare for the swim try outs, so I thought I was doing okay. Spoke to a recruit the other day, he said we should be doing 10 X 100Y at 1:30 each minimum, and the top 20% are above 1:15 but the best do 1:05. I think he meant 1:05 for a single 100 because there's no way he meant 1:05/100Y times 10 for the 1000. Because my fastest sprint in the pool is 1:04 for 100 yards and to do that for 1000 might be bordering olympic level no? thoughts?
Hi Garret, Sounds like your training is going great! Keep it up. If you would like some more information on training feel free to give us a call at (310)939-7223 or check out some of our technique/ocean swimming techniques on our website.
@@lacolifeguards I'm just wondering what the average speed of the top 5% of swimmers really is usually. Is the 11:00 to 12:00 per 1K what I should really aim for to be among the fastest?

Damn, I would want her to save my life. I might try to go drown myself now.
This vid is funny.
I'm too old to be a lifeguard.
The male lifeguards shall be faster if they wear thong
with right connections you can earn more than the us president by basking on the beach. Thanks to the tax payers of LA county
👃
I love how save for two Black men, everyone else is white. I guess that's also a requirement huh?
What?
someone always has to try and bring race into the equation don't they 😂
Good grief... so cheesy.
If chicks are able to be lifeguards, then the job can't be too tough, and certainly isn't worth 500k a year, I'm thinking more like 50K
Can I be David Hasselhoff? Hahahaha
