    This is coming from a swimer.Swimming a mile is already difficult, swimming a mile under 45 minutes with no training is very impressive, and swimming a mile with no training in open water under 45 minutes with no training and no goggles is incredible! Great job Michelle!👏👏😎😎

      What I heard in another video of the Challlenge Accepted Series was, that for example for the Marine Invitation she prepared herself for 4 months. So that really is dedication

    I also like this video cause it's clear Michelle is incredibly ripped, but despite that, every sport or exercise she hasn't done before is still hard. A reminder that no physical activity is inherently better than another, just works with different muscle groups and mental endurance.

    I respect people that can swim professionally like this SO much. The water is terrifying and you’re moving your entire body and using every muscle, and having to pace your breathing I mean wow. My mom had to teach me how to swim later than I would’ve wanted and it’s so difficult

    The fact the team came back to help her complete her run is amazing. Most people be at a finish line gloating they finished and not help those who are trying. This really was wholesome and you can see it in Michelle's facial expression and her energy changed when they came back and cheered for her. This really made me smile. Also love the little slow motion in the edits. Just some minor detail that made it more fun and intense.

You're showing people what incredible exciting options are out there to dedicate their lives to and that is SO important. Also giving us a healthy respect for all the brave people doing these jobs.     Michelle is easily one of the most underrated RUclipsr. The amount of effort that her and her team puts into these productions is insane. the amount of research, the planning, and the amount of hard work is so apparent. Each film they make is intriguing and interesting to literally anyone. Easily one of the best series on here, and I cannot believe there aren’t more people who tune in.

    I wish they had talked about the fact that panicked drowning people will try to push you down to get themselves above the water. When I originally trained to be a lifeguard they made us practice on very large flailing muscular men, so we could get a real feel for it. They also trained us on how to get out of chokeholds etc when underwater.

      I’ve done that training and even doing the training is kind of scary because you can’t always catch your breath and you’re trying to help the person. Their natural instinct is to do anything that can get their head above water even if that means pushing you down. I can’t even imagine doing this with added waves and open ocean

      @@amandatown800 Exactly. Natural instinct tells the drowning victim to survive in any way possible, which is why they make the training so hard. I definitely dreaded that part of the training, because it really was difficult to deal with someone who was acting psychotic and get enough air to do the manual labor of helping them and pulling them to shore all while treading water.

      @@lauraladyll yeah, it is a lot to handle at once. I was always told that if it comes down to it you have to save yourself first and I’m so glad that I never had to make that decision because I can’t guarantee it would be the smart decision. I’m the type of person that would want to help someone else no matter what it meant for me. Even just training it it was so difficult to listen to the instructions and push them off of me to get my head above water

      My instructor told us to grab the victim’s thumbs and pointer fingers and twist if they try to do that to make them stop. Never had to do it and hopefully I never will.

    OMG Michelle needs to do a "I trained like a professional Musician" and see if in a month she can learn an instrument and then do a recital for close friends and family members (i've been playing cello for 18 years so i'm a bit biased lol)

      Piano or guitar would be a good instrument since you can play beautiful songs even at a beginner level! :) As a piano teacher, I can teach some very young beginner students some amazing beautiful but simple songs. Its all about emotionality :)

      @@melshortir piano a huge YES, as for guitar it is “easy” but when people think guitar they think “I learned these 5 chords so now I can play hallelujah and I can play guitar :)” which is obviously not the case lol I would actually love for her to learn very basic guitar pedagogy if she went the guitar route

    I’m a lifeguard and people get upset with me all the time because one of the main roles of my job is to PREVENT the drowning. And people don’t understand how hard it really is...

      Omg, ikr. People are like "you just sit all day," when I litterally have to use so much mental energy on it. Like, I notice if someone is getting tired and I need to tell them to take a break or if someone is doing something that can get them hurt and I have to stop it. Plus it's hot and I've litterally gotten heat exhaustion and blacked out when my boss wouldn't give me a break

      And the entitled parents!! I've had so many who think that they can break the rules because they are an adult or that since thay told there kid it was ok that their kid can break the rules. I literally had parents put their kid in immediate danger and not understand why I was upset!!

      No no, she has money, a youtube channel and an entire team with connections to help her accomplish her goals.
      That said, I am still extremely happy for and so proud of Michelle and her personal dreams and accomplishments. It's dope. It is just unfortunate most cannot also do the same and just try out these types of things and some of the crazier she's been able to do.

      @@SilentAndy she finds opportunities and she takes them. Yes ofcourse her money helps, but this girl worked fro her success. The amount of emotional and physical training she has to go through is literally insane. Even if she had no money, just looking at how strong she is anyone could tell she could make a name for herself just starting from nothing.
      And if you have money then why not use it? Shes trying to live her best life, and inspiring people to do the same.
      I myself am not rich, however, that does not mean I can not work to be the best person I can be. I dont need money to be physically fit.

    As a lifeguard currently I can say that it is very intense. I’m not a beach guard but it is still very important and crazy. Great job with everything Michelle and I can’t wait to see what else you do!

    I love teams that dont leave each other and help one another out. I was doing a test I wasnt prepared for and was physically exhausted, part of my team that had finished before me came back and walked along side me.. cheering me on, telling that I'm doing good and pushed my to go faster..I made it to the end with not 1 second to spare.

    Michelle at this point is so physically powerful, and it's really something special to go back to her early work way, way back with Buzzfeed and see how she's grown. Not just as an athlete, but as a storyteller, a mentor, and a person who is just overall unconquerable.

    I've watched the video on youtube, where some guy got bitten by a shark.And they putted him in special carrier, and he said that he felt a lot of water.But actually there was no water, he was swimming in his own blood.It was that bad.Only that carrier saved his life.

    I am so glad that my YMCA lifeguard training in the next few months is nothing like this. There is no way I would be able to do ocean lifeguard training. God Bless all that do this job can’t wait to join you all as a certified lifeguard.

      @@lex3683 if you need to get an 80 to pass your drivers test and you receive a 74, you don’t get your drivers license. they might be able to teach you more so next time you can get the 80, but that doesn’t mean you passed the first time.

      @@lex3683 He said she didn’t think she could COMPLETE it. As in, thought they would have to put her on the rescue board and bring her in. She did amazing, but did not pass. She would have complete it under the time cap to pass. Which she totally would be able to do with more training.

    as a jr lifeguard, i know this is so hard. i can hit the the 500 meter swim in around 9:29, so i barely hit the mark. i always keep in mind that you need training. it is so importaint to train hard and keep believing. i have done a lifeguard training program for 4 year now. i love this video it just shows all of this. i love ur vids soso much and ily

    I’m watching this as someone who was on my high school swim team for two years and did water polo for a year and then did rugby for a year, I would not meet any of those requirements (my five hundred meter time was like 25 minutes 😂 and that was in a pool in lanes) so good on Michelle!!! Also I love how supportive these lifeguards and instructors are 💕

    So terrifying, I'm really glad to see that Michelle did this. Being caught in a rip current is insane. I wasn't saved by a lifeguard, I was lucky to have my stepdad who threw me as far as he could and I think I swam for twenty minutes to get to shore? We were so far out it was insane- in such a short amount of time. I think I walked another thirty minutes to get to my mom, I just turned 13. It was so scary. I can't imagine how Michelle felt trying to get to her fiance. I remember openly sobbing while trying to find my mom after getting out of the water.

      When I was 10 I got caught in a Riptide and I had to save myself because nobody was around. Swim diagonal and HARD. I'm lucky to have been a state swimmer at that age

      This is why i teach what to do if one gets stuck in a rip current to my students during safety day (I'm a lifeguard and swim instructor). Even though we don't live near an ocean I know exactly how it feels to be stuck in a rip current and it can be scary if you don't know what you are doing. But i was glad i remember what they taught us at school and i was able to implement before anything serious happened.

    My dad was a lifeguard either one or more summers I think at a public pool. That was probably over 30 years ago. He still monitors the water when we’re at a pool or beach. That mentality stays with you for years.

      Definitely! I’m an equestrian (hunter jumper) and I think she’d love the sport because men and women are 100% treated equally. Plus, like you said, so many people say it isn’t a sport and that it’s easy; even though it’s one of the most difficult sports!
