Watch The Regrettes’ ferocious take on “Fox On The Run”

- While the official kickoff of A.V. Undercover’s eighth season is still a week away, we thought we’d whet our readers’ proverbial appetites with a special bonus track in advance. In the video above, the lovable scamps in The Regrettes take on Sweet’s “Fox On The Run,” a song that you might be familiar with if you’ve been paying attention to our other recent video offerings. The up-and-comers tackle “Fox On The Run” with a youthful ferocity that would seem a little daunting if you didn’t know the group’s lead singer, Lydia Night, is actually only 16 years old-and thus far more full of energy than the vast majority of us old fuddy-duddies.
The Regrettes’ debut record, Feel Your Feelings Fool!, is out now on Warner Bros. The group kicks off a run of summer tour dates June 11 in Phoenix.

Shout out to the cameraman for focusing on the rhythm guitar player during the solo.
literally scrolling down to say something about this lol
the cameraman only does his job. its the cutter/ editor who fucked it up
The BBC teach classes in this, you know.
I was about to comment on that myself. I was watching the singer's fingers and obviously she was just playing rhythm. No idea why they didn't switch to the lead guitarist.
Eli Webb noticed this to, they switch later. I'm assuming the lead guitar turned to far and they didn't have an angle on it
Just have to say that "The Regrettes" is one of the most brilliant names for a girl rock group EVER.
Don't they have a guy on drums though?
@Sander nobody ever looks at the drummer :(
@@seamusmorrison1532 and that's such a bummer
@Kommander Rahnn why are you even here
@Kommander Rahnn leave
Personally the hidden gem in this band is the drummer. Rock solid. Not taking away anything from any other member.
Yeah, this is a decent cover made better by the fact that the drummer is paying his respects to Mick Tucker.
But he's quit the band now.
What a bummer. He went off to college or grad school, I guess. I always thought he was the talent. Still a good band.
Astronomer Blankman actually the solo guitarist is amazing too, if i remember correctly, she has some solo works or something.
I think its a shame their music isn’t this fuzzy though, this is a badass cover
The drummer quit? That was a mistake he has talent for percussion! What’s he going to study accounting? Boring job equals boring life! Oh well, what can you do but accept it.
This bands real test is in whether they can write original songs or not! That’s the challenge. Good Luck to them!
I love the vocalists attitude. Very confident and charismatic.
Yeah, she's not bad for 16. Check out their album - she wrote all the songs herself - big future ahead for this band.

But she hits a lot of flat notes. Oh well, practice makes perfect.
@@gregwickham9841 Thankfully, chart positions are inconsequential nowadays.
This combines so many of my favorite things. 70s glam. 90s-style post-punk girl bands. Barrettes. It's everything.
barrettes?
The thing the singer has on her head to manage her hair.......It's been a long time since i've heard that word........
Don't forget wood paneling
ahhh thanks brad
Nancy Kerrigan hell yeah. reminds me of Blondie. I was obsessed with Debbie as a pre teen
a great performance of a great song. the lead is expressive, the lead guitarist played everything perfectly, they nailed all the backups, the drummer has a strong snare arm and a good feel for groove and they look like they're having a blast. there is absolutely nothing to bitch about here. rock n' roll is still alive for another generation.
I love this comment and I completely agree with you! Fab cover lad and ladies!
yeah!! Finally someone who does not complain about kids "not even knowing what guitars are anymore" . Thank you from my 50 year old heart.
So many great young bands around having fun.Check out GRETA VAN FLEET as well. 17-20 year olds and they were amazing opening band for THE STRUTS.
"Strong snare arm" Yes!! Not too many people think about that, but I do. I'm glad you do as well. It's important in rock music to fucking murder that snare.
Talented band, yet their music is boring. The Coathangers got knocked on hard for their AV Club cover, but their stuff is nearly a full 50% more interesting to listen to, despite the edges. So what's the moral? Don't judge a book by its first page?
Pretty great voice on the singer though, and stage presence. I'm not saying I wouldn't go see em, specially for under ten bucks.
The moral here is opinions are subjective.
Genius backing-vocal "echoes" made even more glorious in the stereo mix. Watch this with headphones on.
I keep coming back. It would be awesome if they upload this to Spotify.
I have heard countless covers and arrangements on this song and this is definitely one of the very best. I hope to see more from this extremely talented group!
Agreed. I was about these kids age when it was a big hit for Sweet and I think this rocks. Not surprised they got a contract, they have great potential
I agree as well its a excellent cover of a great song
they put on an awesome show. similar young rock band is starcrawler...probably the best show ive ever seen and im an old man pushing 50.
Are you kidding me ?
Lead guitar is amateur, from effects to execution. Singer just drones in a monotone voice, especially in the chorus. They are fun to watch, and I admit they're talented... but I'd never buy music from this high school talent show act !
lame opinion bernie. and no one is kidding.
Anyone continually come back to hear that drum transition!?
This aesthetic is 10/10.... Especially the substitute geography teacher vibes XD
substitute geography teachers are the best teachers 🙂
They actually made it to A.V. Club, damn
I remember seeing Lydia playing with Marlhy a few years ago.
dang that rick bass is beautiful.
You speak the truth. Walnut I think?
Shout out to the guitarist doing the synth riff on the guitar at the start!
And for using Telecasters :))
twin telecasters? hell yeah.
Dan K i liked your comment then unliked it so i could like it again
was looking for a comment like that noticed that straight away
I think the mix would have been tastier with either of them using a different guitar
Genessa, the redhead has played a 335 in some live performances. Actually, they all have played classic rigs. Lots of videos of their live shows where the singer is playing a Fender Musiclander 😱😱
Yep. They have a lot of fans among the older, guitar geek segment.
After hearing the song for decades I now can understand the words! Thanks for enunciating.
That feeling of failure when you realize they're all like 16 and 17 and basically a highschool band.
i mean why beat urself up like that
@@RickyBlaze2008 probably better than any shitty bar band you've ever been in, lol.
@@gholwiih That would require him to play an instrument.
gholwiih tbh i agree w him they do have pretty basic chord progressions, but that Dosnt mean they’re bad, they’re one of my fav bands,my brothers band Royal Suns used to play shows w them
@@patsmear4656 You do realize this song originally came out in like 1976 right?
Outstanding vocal performance.
As an old Sweet fan, that was fantastic!
Thanks for celebrating this Sweet song!
her aesthetic is actually god tier
Total respect.
Having seen The Sweet perform this live way back in the 70's I have to say this is a pretty damn good version and a fitting tribute to an amazingly underrated band. Well done guys!!!
I heard the Sweet version on the radio tonight, and had to come look this up again. I really think I like the Regrette's rendition better.
No autotune needed just talented young women that know how to sing and play music💛❤😘
One of the few times I like the cover as much as the original
this is great !!! the bass player is sooooooo slamming !!!
Wow, they are REALLY tight for a band this young. Great job here.
The girl on the left's guitar tone is crazy good
Almost didn't make it past the intro: Glad I did; they really rock this cover.
281 people are blind AND deaf. The performance... on point! I approve. Just... WOW! Please come to Sweden!
Wow, it's amazing how not using bluegrass instruments makes Fox on the Run sound so completely different.
You're thinking of a different song
@@EslayerTM Duh
Nice job ladies, and guy on the drums. Thank you for playing this song. I'm going to listen to it again n ow.
I get a Scott Pilgrim vibe from them .
Uuhh?...
Same
GhostOfRhurValley 1945 I can see why
ya they give me a big pilgrim as well!
singer kinda looks like aubrey plaza too.. kinda
Great version! The drummer is hitting it like a pro!
I love their take on this glam rock classic! Respect!! 🤜🤛
I will be disappointed if they don't make it big... what a great cover!
Is it just me or do they all look a bit like Daniel Clowes characters? Kinda Ghost World vibes
Totally! The one on the right looks like Rebecca (ScarJo) but with short blonde hair.
YES!
what fucking movie characters these styles are actually styles from real generations
Clariccy look up the definition of Retro....
im pretty sure thats by design.... then again, it may be the barettes.
Not gonna lie, I only clicked on this cause I thought she was pretty and wanted to see if this was any good. And I liked it very much! They performed this very well and now I want to listen to more of their songs!
The lead guitarist is a beast.
I LOVE that little bow & nod right at the beginning! And the rest of the song too. Made my damn week
awesome !
I'm a little surprised how much I like this.
Yeah, so I know this song from the first time around and this is just a madly joyous full throttle version of it - stunning.
Last time I saw a band this good, this young were t'arctic monkeys with whom they share a similar confident swagger; no idea how this is possible, when I was 16 I think I could just about make a yo-yo go down, and then up again (if I was lucky).
great band...very well done....you guys nailed it.....thanks
i think i'm in love with the lead...
She's a cutie
shes like 16 fyi
even better...
that she's 16 i mean
no joke, the second other guitarist is the secret star talent here. her backups, solo, arpeggios and tone are great. i hope she stays in the rock at least for another decade.
I love the friendly, respectful way they bow to each other at the beginning.
I’m glad to see that Tasha Yar is doing well after ST TNG.
HA! I was thinking the same thing! Cheers sir!
Fox on the run was my favorite back in my teens... thank you!
4 years later.... there is still no better cover of this song.
POWER POP!!! And PERFECT!. LOVE you guys, thank you!! (And I"m old enough to be your grandpa) This is TIMELESS like all real rock and roll!
the lead going for that classic margot tenenbaum look, good choice.
She's adopted.
Z0D Does she have a middle name, though?
Ronno4691 Helen
Outstanding!
My affection for Genessa may not be appropriate, it may not be healthy, but it's real, and it's spectacular.
Well done the young lassies and the guy drummer superb version of a song from almost 50 year ago
I'm in love!! gimme more!
This is what I love about Undercover---hearing great covers that lead me to amazing bands.
Aces!
Lydia's voice is so unique
I'm in absolute love with this band!
Somebody paid attention in Rock School.
This brings me joy
The Kid's Are Alright! I would LOVE to hear these kids play that.
Impeccable.
Very nice, with all the energy of the original. That drummer is solid.
Superb
That is one cute singer.
I saw "Fox on the Run" and let me tel ya, I've never click something so fast before.
They got the right amount of hart and soul for this song. If I was at that gig I'd be on my feet dancing.
I miss sage and max
Same.
;-;
They really rock...
They really need to release this version on spotify.
They have such a fun raw energy I can't get enough of!!
Regrettes are awesome!
An amazing powerhouse performance. What a truly superb cover. Their original songs are outspoken, bold, and masterfully written and performed.
I didn't think I would enjoy this as much as I did.
I had given up on today's youth, then I stumbled upon this gem.
How long has it been since I heard a sound like this?...PUNK IS NOT DEAD!
I love a girl on the bass, and even more on the Rick
I agree 100!
Let me just say this, Ladies and Gent: This song was my all-time favorite for several years when I was going into high school. Sweet performed it to a magnificent TEE...But NOW I have a NEW FAVORITE group doing it!!! You young people are SO impressive! I never imagined that ladies would ever cover this song but you ladies and Gent made it come alive like never before! Everything about your band is impressive...your style of dress and grooming, your drummer is fantastic, your lead and back-up singing, and the fact that you all have smiles and really enjoy what you're doing! I can see your band becoming the next Bangles (with the added guy drummer) and I absolutely LOVE that band. WAY TO GO!!!
the lead guitarist had me smiling like an idiot
Kickass drumming powered that tune.
Perfect.
That song got a power pop treatment it deserved. Very good!
Cute girls and telecasters go together really well
HEY ! I thought I was the only one ! Funny, I wrote the same EXACT thing LOL
I heartily concur!
The girls are popular on the Telecaster web forum site - TDPRI? Lydia is the obscure Fender Queen as well - Duo Sonics and a Swinger. Old Fender guys love that shit. Cute ladies and awesome axes.
Cute girls..booze/.cold beer/.weed...meth.&._.motel rooms is best.....o my
@@w.h.1940 my cardiovascular system nearly collapsed from just reading that combination 😝
It's not that they don't sound good. But it's such an iconic song I made it a minute before looking up the original
My faith in the future of Rock N' Roll has been restored by them. Rock on!
love the coordinated green foliage in the corners.
I'm so glad I'm not in high school anymore, otherwise I'd have massive crushes on all the guitarists.
So cool to see (and hear) kids totally CRUSHING a song that their parents probably weren't even into. (other old person reference: And a young Tasha Yar on bass!)
Drummer skills 8 of 10,..
Being smart enough to be the only guy in a band of 3 pretty girls,..10 of 10,..well played lad well played.
Nice to see some good old guitar music
This turned out so much better than I thought it would. Well worth watching all the way through.
I dig that Rickenbacker 4003w. I have one myself and it's such a great bass.
@Lowie Patat I play it. Admittedly not as skillfully as I wish. But if the neighbors are bothered by it, they've never mentioned it. And annoying them is not my personal intent for it, sooo... idk. It's fun though.
they seem like having so much fun
Love their look, sound and style! Ghost World is one of fav movies of all time.
Impressive performance! Surprised the view count is not higher.
probably because many of these type of bands have been around for decades
what about now?
Lydia Night is my hero
good drumming
This makes me so happy and I don't know why
actually sounds pretty dope on 1.5 speed
Mr Bones couldn't agree more
Best
yeaaaa
I’m more of a .25 guy
I regretted that. .5 is more my style regrettes on heroin.
This is very sombre verzion of a childhood favourite of mine. Pure garage, no glam.
And the spirit man.
great cover girls, not an easy one to sing!,i like your take on it too
"Rock is dead" "Guitar groups are passé" ...not while there are kids out there playing high energy rock and roll and having fun like this - brilliant!
