+jwpla Doing moves, as you say, is a meaningless goal.... If you zoom out and realize that the improvisation, musicality, composition is everything - this was a peak performance in this regard. Being able to achieve this level of art, is attainable by very very few people.
+ducatidoc To each his own. While the art of Osvaldo Zotto or Javier Rodriguez appears more simple, I believe it is attainable by far less people. Quality of movement and the experience you can give to your partner is everything, imo.
Yes, experience you can give to your partner. That does not only mean "make them feel pretty", or "make them feel competent". Composition, variation, improvisation, curiosity, spontaneity, these things are my responsibility to give to every partner to the best of my ability and hers. It's my job to listen to my partner, the music, and move with respect for her and others on the milonga floor. I can do all of that simply walking, or complex sacada chains combined with gancho's. It really depends on how much energy my partner is giving me, and what the music is. Refusing certain movements from your vocabulary because you're bored is being disingenuous to yourself and your partner, and isn't the best experience you can give your partner.
Hmmmm, no sé. Creo que bailarines como Chicho tienen su merecido lugar en las pistas, pero tiene poco sabor a tango, las subtilezas se pierden, tiene pasadas violentas y hay tangos que, definitivamente, no son para su estilo (como es el caso de Bahia Blanca). Yo no soy un conservador, creo que hay espacio para el tango nuevo y es una modalidad que tiene cosas hermosas y bailarines competentes (el proprio chicho), pero hay que saber elegir bien... y este no le quedó bien. Creo que bailarines como Chicho tienen su merecido lugar en las pistas, pero tiene poco sabor a tango, las subtilezas se pierden, tiene pasadas violentas y hay tangos que, definitivamente, no son para su estilo (como es el caso de Bahia Blanca). Yo no soy un conservador, creo que hay espacio para el tango nuevo y es una modalidad que tiene cosas hermosas y bailarines competentes (el proprio chicho), pero hay que saber elegir bien... y este no le quedó bien.
