At this point, Pam and Jim's path to a relationship is very 'by the book'. So they probably find it annoying how one-sidedly bad a boyfriend Roy is, and how, despite all the obvious signals that she's not happy with him, Pam doesn't seem to conclude that maybe she shouldn't be with him. I know, I know, Pam's supposed to be in a toxic relationship and such relationships block a persons mind from seeing the truth, but the show doesn't afford any nuance to Roy's toxicity. He is flat out awful, and the only reason Pam would stay with him for years is if she had prior trauma. Combine this intense naivety with how she seems to look down on everyone else in the office, and you have a very trope character who's scenes with Jim tend to be quite predictable, who is most defined by her passivity and blindness to obviously bad people. The Normies picked up on this early on, thanks to Pat, and that theme has just been re-enforced since.
The problem gets fixed in season 3 Jenna actually created the backstory that Pam stays with Roy because her parents like him, and that makes sense because he was very charming when her mom came to visit, suggesting that Pam is getting two different sides to Roy constantly; but we the audience only ever see the insensitive jerk. A lot of people don't realize they're in a toxic relationship unti hiring rock bottom, I think Pams transformation over the first three seasons is great but if you binge the show season 2 isn't quite as effective for Pam as when it was airing weekly.
Watching Spidey hide from the cringe behind his hair just makes me smile. I hope he doesn't cut it because he is going to need it even more as the show progresses.
@@danbobway5656 was about to say the same thing. The only episode I have to skip every rewatch because the cringe permanently takes a piece of my soul every time i see it.
Yeah, that's totally the point. There's the Bob Vance approach, which is clearly overkill, then there is the Angela approach, which is really thoughtful and shows that initial wooing stage. Roy could literally have snuck a nice note in there or run out at lunch and grabbed and delivered flowers or something since they literally work in the same place. He didn't even bother doing the bare minimum.
@@MishaHusnainAli I think the key factor is that Pam wanted something, even if performative to show off to her co-workers that her fiance loves her, and Roy's "gift" was a thing that he gets something out of it
The actor that they cast to play David Wallace had retired from acting and was working as a financial advisor for a big investment firm at the time. Apparently a friend of his that worked on the office convinced him to come back for the role. I think he continued working in the financial industry after he got the part.
True! Many of the scenes where he's just on the phone and not in the scene, he was actually working from his office at the firm and saying his parts over the phone.
The cringe was strong in that CFO/Manager meeting! And yeah, Pam definitely could've gotten some flowers, or even just a single rose or a card from Roy. Marketa and Chris collectively forgetting their anniversary is actually kind of cute lol.

I just got to ask the question, who the hell were Pam's other options if Roy was the best choice? I swear, I have yet to see a single aspect of his personality that is attractive. He doesn't even look that good. And quite frankly, if your boyfriend's response to you saying "I thought you might get something for me, and I'm sad that you didn't" is "I'm sorry, let's go home so you can have sex with me" ladies, if it's not obvious, drop him now. Not too fancy cause we're saving money, but just somewhere where we can enjoy it" "Let's go home, and you relax. I'll make you whatever you want" "Why don't we catch a movie?" "How about this weekend we go for a day out to the park/pier/country?" Duck out the door, run to the store and buy a rose or a box of chocolates "I'm sorry, I misunderstood. Hanukkah is based on the Jewish Calendar, which is a lunar calendar that doesn’t follow the Solar year.
