Nina was a child actor in America too, btw. Check out Divine Shadow(i uploaded a video compilation of her scenes) and was in a stem empowerment campaign entitled "How women will change the world". She was involved in musical theater too since she was 8. She was with AMUSE(big company is Japan, audition in 2017) before NiziPro. She didn't get much recognition for all these engagements tho, this movie with a famous director where she got main(?) role, but yet to be released.. It's probably for a reason coz she was meant to be famous through NiziU, and she is where she's meant to be, I believed. 😊

It was months ago so I'm couldn't remember specifics. It's unfortunate that this movie can't be released, the crew and Nina's efforts huhuhu. Very interesting to see that she went with Makino Nina / 牧野仁菜 fully in kanji for acting in Japan but strictly Nina Hillman/Hillman Nina under JYP. I wonder if it was her team's decision or JYP's to change directions or if something changed in her family life. As far as I can see, it's a hyphenated name, and tbh I assumed it was the Western Nina, not a Japanese one. EDIT: looks like the Kanji used for Nina means benevolent vegetable/greens soooo idk lol
In America she was credited both as Makino Nina and Hillman Nina in the few theater activities she participated in. I don't think there's any change in her family life tho, maybe just her team's decision. In her AMUSE profile, which got taken down Aug 6, 3 days after she passed Sendai auditions, she was listed as Nina Makino. And I think she's been using Makino in all her Japan predebut engagements as it's the name listed with the company she belongs to.

Well, she is American. Actually, a lot of people were saying her dad's French. From her Amuse profile it says she auditioned 2017 and this was early 2018 so she's probably stayed less than a year in Japan, know less Japanese hence still very American. 😊
