Dazai struggling to maintain a world where Odasaku can live and yet having to be enemies with him isn’t something he prepared himself for, no matter how hard he tries, in any universe, anything he wants will always be lost. Whether that be Odasaku’s friendship, his desire for a value to life, or his relationships with his subordinates (Atsushi in beast and Akutagawa in canon). He’s realized that nothing he does is working, nothing he does will give him a happy life if Odasaku were to live, so he decides to end it all to at least make sure that his one goal succeeds.
Atsushi trembling with fear even though he’s supposed to be the white reaper who doesn’t hesitate to kill for his boss and showing vulnerability when said boss is going to be gone
Akutagawa being shocked but Dazai knowing that inside hes glad that he no longer has to fight for Gin even though Dazai is aware of the relationship they have in the canon universe
Dazai’s inner voice reminding him that he failed yet again to protect him and the relationships of those close to him, that he really hasn’t done anything to help others, something completely contradictory to what canon Odasaku wished Dazai to do. He defied his best friend, ruined a sibling bond, and created a monster out of a child he *knew* lived a happy life in the canon universe; all because of his own selfish desires.
