  • Bhagavatpada Shankaracharya's Sarva Vedanta Siddhanta Sara Sangraha with Sanskrit tika Shankaraprasadini.
For a wise person, this kaama (desire) is same as Yama (Death)
Essence of the verses from 55-253 is to leave everything, acquire Sadhana Chatushtaya and do Guru Upasatti- until then one must see dosha and dukha is all anitya vastu of the world
By going anywhere, change of place, dukha nivritti will not happen- trividha taapa shanti won’t happen. For that knowing the Ahankara who is undergoing the taapa (affliction) is not me, I am brahma
Knowledge from shaastra is the only solution
Changing situations (paristhithi) may appear to offer temporary relief for an unwise purusha but one must remember that we are carrying our prarabdha wherever we go- that will not change by changing paristhithi
How is Yama and Kaama similar?
They are quite distinct! Having given the punishment of sorrow according to the action, Yama (Death) prompts one to travel on the right path. In the end, desire alone becomes the cause of all sorrows
Punya karma + desires: one's path will be slowed
Paapa karma + no punya + desires: one will have increased dukham
Why did desires arise in the first place?
All desires will keep one engaged (vyasta)
Whatever kaama (desire) is not against dharma, that kaama is Bhagavan's sankalpa
