We started at the lower part of the Big Creek Trail #52 to access Cora Lake. It's located off FR 8420. There is a small parking area for maybe 5-6 cars along the road by the trail head. The trailhead is on the side of the road with a narrow, numbered signpost. There are no facilities of any kind, so be sure to come prepared for bathroom and trash needs. There was 4 vehicles total when we arrived around 12:15 pm.
The hike up to the lake is pretty easy and short. It's uphill the whole way, but too steep. The bugs were on us as soon as we got out of the car, despite excessive bug spray. It's a nice trail with lots of berries along the way, and some huge, beautiful trees. There are creek crossings and beautiful Cora Falls. The trail is mostly shaded, in good condition & easy to follow. There is even views of Mt. Rainier along the way.
Cora Lake has some camp sites (one even had an actual metal fire ring), and the shore is accessible in multiple places . There were tons of tadpoles in the water. You can see High Rock Lookout from the lake. Lots of room to hang out with space between groups. Some people had tubes which would be a great way to spend a few hours. Overall, loved this hike and highly recommend.
