    Sweet Revenge is an amazing record! I listened to that record a lot in the early days of COVID and the aftermath of his death.

    Great to see you getting back to reviews again Michael. As to VMP, I have canceled my subscription about a month or two ago.
    Little disappointing with title selection and continuous price increase. Not worth a membership commitment. At least for me. Cheers

    I like when you talk about the bad recordings too. Gives you credibility.

    Glad to see the VMP reviews are back, I always looked forward to those. It appears the January rock VMP will be black sabbath master of reality, hopefully cut by ryan k smith, very much looking forward to that release and to hear your take.

    The Booker T album freakin' stomps. Blast that one loud, some of the soloing on there is just freakin' killer rock and roll

    I've got the STP record that had the star cut out on white by MOV. Sounds amazing! MOVLP1278

    Michael, long time no comment. I have the first 5 STP titles on Music on Vinyl colored editions. I just put on No.4 and it sounds excellent with plenty of loudness as I have a set volume benchmark. No.4 is on white vinyl with a big star shaped die cut jacket. Looks f’ing great! It has very good instrument separation. As I recall I am very happy with all 5 of these MOV colored pressings. My Purple title was good enough for me to let go of an OG purple Purple lp even. Sorry about your VMP. Merry Holidays to you. 🎄🎅☮️

    I have found that the majority of live recordings are disappointing. There are rare gems that sound fabulous. The STP is most likely mastered from an EQed digital source. I love John Prine's recordings. He lived in Nashville, which is near where I live.

    I've noticed on the Analogue Productions site there is a pre-order up for Stone Temple Pilots - Purple on 45 RPM. I can't wait for that one, even the digital sounds great on that album.

    Really good to see another VMP wrap up. I primarily use VMP for the Hip Hip releases and the occasional anthology box (which seems to be becoming an annual thing). I completely agree, the quality of pretty much every hip hop release I’ve gotten off them is absolutely stellar, and they’re undoubtedly leading the way on those as not many others give them the treatment they deserve. The only record I haven’t particularly liked was the Blonde On Blonde Mono which I just found too bright, but I’ve really valued every other VMP title I’ve collected. Have the Miles Davis anthology already cleared customs so should get that in the next couple of days which I’m really looking forward to.

    I think the booklet says something about the boot-leggy way the Ray Charles album was recorded 😢

    Stone temple pilots no 4 didn’t have a vinyl release initially I don’t think. I believe the Music on vinyl issue was the only other issue done and the first I believe.

      That is true! I have the MOV and the CD... The MOV is definitely an improvement over the CD! Its not a great recording to begin with. I'm happy with the MOV. Don't feel its cut low in volume really... Has OK separation, and a nice punch to the low end... Again not a great recording so don't except much honestly. I'd recommend the MOV over the CD easy not even close.

    Agree with you about the STP album! I was looking forward to this release and you might as well listen to it on CD. It’s trash. Hopefully AP does a better job with their upcoming 45rpm STP releases which I’m confident will be great!

    Ray Charles has so many great sounding recordings so it's a mystery why VMP picked that particular LP to reissue.

      I really think VMP should take a leaf from Analogue Productions. If the SQ is not up to scratch, forget it, don’t do it! It is damaging the VMP brand. I find both Ray Charles and Booker T meh meh waste of my time, waste of my money. The November box is so poor i dont know what happened

    • @EMP698
      @EMP698 6 месяцев назад

      The music is great. It's not for enjoying your hiend system, but for listening to great music. VMP is not an audiophile label. Sound quality is not the only concern.

    Nice one, Michael. Did you skip some of the VMPs this year? I’m wondering your opinion of the Bone Thugs N’ Harmony release. Probably my favorite hip hop (essentials) title from VMP yet. Also guess you didn’t pick up any of the Dolly records? Missing out man!
    Any way, very happy to hear your takes as always. Love the Prine as well.

    I’ve been quite disappointed with VMP’s selections the last couple of months to be honest. The John Prine album is great, but I already had the Kevin Gray cut from 2018. They will have to step up again if they want to keep me as a subscriber. To me it seems like they have more and more difficulties getting the rights to top notch titles. Maybe for hip hop they do, but I do not know enough about the genre to have a strong opinion.

    The recording itself is not the greatest on the Ray Charles record. It also might be cut from digital, because the hype sticker only says, that it was mastered from tape. It does not say mastered and cut from tape. Usually VMP is very clear about their AAA releases. Never the less, I enjoy the music on that record.

    The STP record was never a good recording in my opinion. I've never liked that record and I skipped that and swapped it out for another record.

  • @dank.6942
    @dank.6942 2 месяца назад

    The STP doesn't sound good, the vinyl was disappointing, but much of it is the recording. The CD isn't much better, but it is better.
