    Antiquity and a lot of dices? It's definitely game for me :D

    Fast, bloody and lots of fun, that's exactly the kind of game I love! And the models, oh, the models look great on the table!

    This walkthrough pretty much sold me on the game. I agree with some comments that it is a dice heavy mechanic, but I like the secnarios, campaign system, and hero talents concepts. I also like the miniatures

    I was glad to see this as I am currious about this game. The treating slings like other games treat cross bows was an interesting choice, but I can see the reasoning. Spears I likely would have gone the other way with, harder to get past the spear to hit the guy, rather than easier to hit with, but really the result is similar, and a bit more bloody and fast placed the way it is, which I think is part of the game's intention.
    I will have to mention this one to a couple of buddies, and see if they are up for this. Seems like a cheaper way to get some anchients than, say, Hail Caesar. Well played Warlord Games, you got rid of litterally the only reason I have not bought a force of your anchients (I have bought a few metal ones for Frostgrave, namely the druids), the shear numbers normally required.

    • @ostrowulf
      @ostrowulf 5 лет назад

      @Gerry mcCabe Yeah, I figure I could either expand into something like Hail Ceasar, or even just use them as a warband for things like Frostgrave, as well as SPQR. Either way, easily multipurposed.

    • @ostrowulf
      @ostrowulf 5 лет назад +2

      @Gerry mcCabe One way or the other, I broke down and just bought the box set. Ironically the straw that broke the camals back was a combo of a discount code that was about to expire, and really needing a couple of archers for a few other games. Well, the fact that I am now on my 4th SPQR video of the day added to it.

    • @ostrowulf

      @Gerry mcCabe I am looking forward to those.

    Good stuff. I'm hoping for a few more videos that can show a little more variety and tactics. Like someone else mentioned in the comments this was almost 40 minutes for 1 combat between 2 units. That being said, it still gave a good snapshot of the core mechanics.

  • @FaustSketcher

    The Rome reference with Pullo and Vorenus is great.
    Would have been awesome to have Asterix and Obelix realistic-ish models as an extra 2 Gaul heroes too hahaha The druid looks like Panoramix thou :D!
    Anyway, been digging historical miniature games, looks really interesting from what I saw in the Overview video!

    • @randallcase1009
      @randallcase1009 4 года назад

      Copyright issues would be my guess. Pullo and Vorenus are fair game as Caesar mentioned them in his writings, but they were BOTH Centurions.

    Interested in this, but I can't help feeling that the rules match some before. I cannot wait to see what daft questions now require further information. I also feel that a 28mm picts or brigantium village with stockade requires creating.

    Looking forward to get the basic box set today. Now I don't have to move 200 models of 2 armies over the table. No! Now I will move only 30 models of 8 different factions... so cool. May need some more dice.

      Exactly. Rome never wins in SPQR. We've played SPRQ over a dozen times now and Rome lost each of those times let alone all the video content we've seen supports this finding. Rome never wins in SPQR.

    Do like the look of it. I enjoy historical light type games, like Lion rampant. Could be the game to play while I build my 28mm collection up to a size big enough for sword and spear etc.

    We played our first two games and it worked ok. Huge numbers of 🎲 which will annoy many. But hell Warlords, didn’t anyone proofread the rules? There are mistakes and inconsistencies in what are after all small rules! Better illustrations would have been useful too if. Quick games for sure

    • @jahvyn
      @jahvyn 3 года назад

      I've just bought the starter set for £38, and whilst the value of the miniatures is amazing, I'm confused already by the writing!
      Introductory scenario: "The Roman warband is made up of 1 unit of legionaries.... There are 2 units of 5 legionaries."
      To add to the confusion, there only 8 legionaries with swords in the set.
      Gaaaaagh!

  • @albertbrasington684

    I need some clarification on the rules please.Perhaps and example?10 Legionaries with big shields and swords get 5 parry's each?Range attacksIf a group of 10 slingers roll 8 hitsHow many parries will 10 legionary with large shields get? 30? 10? Explain please.If 10 Gallic warriors attack rolling 20 dice (wild charge) and score 12 hitsHow many timesare they forced to reroll 3X10large shields 30?then 2X10 swords 20?What am I missing here? Would love to get into your game but this whole parry thing is confusing. From your video it looks like you only roll once.

  • @MegaSnegovichok
    @MegaSnegovichok 5 лет назад +3

    Hmmm... 40 minutes to resolve what is basically ONE attack and ONE combat between two fairly small units? And with not too much "tactics" and basically no meaningful decisions to make by any of the sides? And having to hit twice and still having save rolls? I guess I will have to pass on this one, sorry...

    • @damuses1452
      @damuses1452 4 года назад

      I think the rules are such as to better reflect the type of warfare for this era... melee battles involving armor, shields, swords, spears, et cetera. Thus, there are mitigating circumstances in this type of ancient warfare and the game combat mechanics are likely meant to reflect/compensate for this. Whereas, with modern weaponry... there is distance in play... and melee combat is no longer the battlefield standard.

    • @randallcase1009
      @randallcase1009 4 года назад +1

      I think you're confusing this example/walk through for being a full game.
      They are really further into the game than turn one (the armies would be setup in deployment zones and would maneuver towards each other like in most skirmish games), so I would assume that they are basically face-to-face so that they can show the shooting and melee mechanics. The game actually runs a lot faster than that as they are talking through the rules and how things work and aren't two experienced players in a normal game. The rerolls are caused by equipment (the shields in this example), so depending on the actual scenario that won't always be the case. I think you're being a bit quick to judge the game.
