QOTD: I have been fortunate enough to have not been in jury duty yet. I haven't had my number called yet. And great job squeezing out this video. If your dedication to this show hasn't been shown already, this solidifies it even further.
Gary, you would never believe my jury duty story. I was juror number 11 and ended up crying in the court room during a session with the judge, during the deliberations phase of the trial. I am NOT crier -- but this situation was incredibly stressful in an emotional way (not the business-stress I'm used to). This moment ended up being completely pivotal and changing the direction of the case and the outcome (for the good). It's one of those crazy stories that I wouldn't believe if someone told me. People who think one person can't make a difference? Dead wrong. #AskGaryVee +GaryVee
Twice ~ first one was a poor older lady who sued her doctor for malpractice, it was a week long and brutal. Second was just a few months ago - So many potential jurors claimed they 'couldn't' participate that there were not enough of us to listen to the case. Def an interesting process. Good episode, thanks!
Thank you so much for doing the show today! Thank you for being honest about your fears that was great. Also, hate the podcast exclusiveness... but I understand your need for podcast subscribers
#QOTD I was called for jury duty a while back, but hey didn't keep me. I'm not sure why, but I just shrugged. I've seen the movie 12 angry men way too many times, I can't imagine me being on a jury going well...
Fun show! I never would've thought reading in public would be the thing that scared you the most. So I had Jury duty last year. It was a divorce/custody case. Each parent thought that they each had rights to the kids. So we did the first day, which ended up being basically a meet where we were chosen to do jury duty based on some questions we answered. Then I was chosen, and the judge came in and told us we would start tomorrow. The next day, we walk in, sit in our seats, and the judge proceeded to tell us that the two parents and their attorney's had been up all night trying to come to a consensus, and settled out of court. Weirdly enough, I was kind of pissed! I felt like 2 days of my time had been wasted!
Gary you are my idol I only say that because I have the same fear of reading in public and out loud but never-the-less I have dyslexia it's never stop me from achieving my goals in life.., like starting business in the past and so on", I will work against this fear that I had since I was in elementary school , and put an end to it all , Gary you have motivated me more than ever now that you have opened up to the world about having the same fear of reading in public (thank you ) you are a true blessings to this world
Had to go to Jury Duty for the first time this year. Was selected to a Murder Trial... lol Didn't want to to be there for a week, or potentially longer, so I did everything I could to make it seem like I wasn't fit for serving.
Got picked for a nasty murder trail expected to last weeks - two hours in everyone ran to the judge and they conversed for a half hour then turn around and dismissed us for mistrial. Still have no idea what or why it happened. They picked another jury the next day and the trail ran 3-1/2 weeks. You rock - keep up the energy and the spontaneous videos - always insightful
never experienced jury duty. love this episode & how you took advantage of the downtime. people always complain about how much time they waste during the jury selection process- nice to see how it's done from a hustler! also expected you to go innnn on that birthday question more. I never understood how grown adults take off on their birthday every year. to do what? most likely everyone you know is at work....
I've done jury duty twice. Both times I sat around a waiting room and then dismissed around noon. Way to "Example" and make use of "down time" to keep up the hustle.
Weather in NYC looks great! Better than Winter here! #QOTD Selected for jury duty pool once - 10 mornings of hanging round the courthouse only to not be selected. Thankfully, as I get restless sitting still for long periods!
About ten years ago, I was on a jury for a murder trial. It was a fascinating, intense, and sobering experience. I remember how much I wanted for us to get the verdict right. We found the defendant guilty. I feel confident we delivered the right verdict. Our judicial system is terribly flawed, but being on that jury made me proud that our nation is a nation of laws.
Years ago I served on a jury for a prisoner caught with a homemade weapon. The guy was in for armed robbery. I told the attorneys that my dad was held up 14 times at his grocery/liquor store in S.F. but that didn't stop them from choosing me. Only me and another guy were hold outs in the final verdict. I was clear the guy was guilty but when I read through the rules a second time I realized my vote had to be not guilty. It forever changed how I viewed our justice system. The experience also had me realize that I could never go into law, I would explode with the injustice . . .
Have been called for jury duty probably a dozen times both when I was living in DC and now back home in Cleveland. Have NEVER been selected to actually sit on a jury. Talk about irritating. If I'm going to go sit down there for a week I might as well get to see the inside of a court room!
I just started watching your channel and I am loving it...looks like I have a lot of videos to catch up on....I had jury duty last year but they dismissed me after a few hours (tried to get out sooner) because of I needed to get back to my retail business.
QOTD: Just turned 18 and had a federal case against the Montana Freeman group. Talk about being the green one in the room! I wasn't selected for the final group because of being the youngest person in the room by about 20 years.
#QOTD my first experience was going to jury duty thinking I might be on a trial for a few days and learning I was called for grand jury duty for 8 weeks and could not take the time from work. Fortunately, I was able to get a pass. Bottom line, read the jury summons notice CAREFULLY! Happy 4th.
QOTD- No. Never had the opportunity to do jury duty. But I am super pumped that even in your busy schedule you chose not to use your influence to get out of it, but invested your time to give back to the community. Big-ups @garyvee
Never done jury duty, but I have a witness subpoena sitting on my desk for a week from today. All the way back in September I saw a car accident. One of the drivers was running around up the road frantically. Another witness said he was trying to get into other people's cars. Fortunately, no one was hurt. The guy is being charged with DUI and reckless driving.
Well done! I share your fear or realization that reading and especially out loud is not a strength but context and personalization is. I have the same feeling with written communication. Do you?
Jury duty in Milwaukee sucked. It was 8 AM, there were at least 100 people in this lobby waiting, and we watched the 4th hour of the Today Show (or whatever the Kathy Lee & Hoda hour is), the local version of the 4th hour of the Today Show (it's as bad as you think it is), and a movie, but they left the menu looping for 10 minutes because they forgot to hit the play button. I, however, was editing a video on my laptop for a freelance project, and got out of jury duty by explaining I was (then) a college student, working two jobs, and freelancing, so if the trial went too long, I was going to just sway with the majority so I could go back to making the majority of my money for the year.
Got jury duty when I was super slammed running my gym. I was also studying for a cert at the time and hadn't put in my study time. So when I got the letter I was actually excited to have a few hours to catch up on reading. Turned out I was only there for like 30 min.
I have been on a jury twice. The most interesting was for traffic court for a speeding ticket. Where the jury ended up with "not-guilty" mostly because the police officer wasn't as convincing as he needed to be on how reliable police radar is.
Nope, I'm not sure how I feel about it. It's going to take me away from my work and my business. But it could be a good break. Plus we are all required to do it.
I was part of Grand Jury. Quite a bit different then jury duty. I was the foreman and I had one day of case after case that hurt my very soul. Not only was it the cases, but the responses of some of the jurors to those cases. How could people be ok with some of the things that happened to the kids, how can human life be devalued because a person made bad decisions, how can one just not care? I am still working that stain off and trying to see the goodness of people once again. I am not sure that I could participate in Grand Jury again.
I was excused from jury duty at the juror's interview because I had a relative who was killed by a drunk driver and the defendant was trying to get off from being prosecuted for drunk driving by going to trial.
#askgaryvee #askgaryveebook by Gary! I am pre-ordering your BOOK!!!! LET ME IN!!! Reasons why I should be in: 1)I am many miles away from Singapore 2)I am sharing your channel ALWAYS to my fellow entrepreneur students! 3)I REALLY hustle hard for the past few years of my entrepreneurial journey 4) I am FOLLOWING your advice!!!
#QOTD Being one of the few registered voters in a previous county, I was always given the instructions to "call in" for my appointment. After a week of waiting, I was never asked to actually sit for the jury selection. But... because I wasn't picked, I was put back into the pool of potential jurors. This would happen about every six months!
The last time I did jury duty, I got called into a case. They were doing the questioning of the potential jurors, and the plaintiff's attorney recognized me from social media. I did not recognize him. Later, during a lunch break, I made an innocuous tweet making a little fun of the judge - he had said something awkward about "staying off the social media" or something like that. Anyway, I got dismissed, and later as we were waiting to get our jury duty checks and be sent home for the day, the bailiff came over and said, "Man, you got caught." I was like "What the hell are you talking about?" He said the attorney had cruised my social media accounts and seen the tweet, and got me kicked off the case. I was like "whatever," I'm out of here. It was a completely innocent tweet, NOT about the case or anything. About a year later, I ran into the attorney and we had a laugh about it.
#QOTD: Did jury service for 2 weeks. Situation where the incident clearly wouldn't have happened if it wasn't for those on trial involved but because there wasn't sufficient evidence to specifically identify the two involved in the act, they walked free. Made me question the Criminal system a lot that day.
QOTD: On the second day of Jury Duty I got called in a chair but then the Prosecutor asked me if I'm quick to make decisions to which I replied, "yes" and I was promptly dismissed.
Yes I have. Not that big of a story and I probably waited an hour before getting picked for a case. The case was about someone getting hit with a car and how much they should get for damages. The actual case took maybe an hour as well and I was picked to read the verdict (which I was nervous about because 1. I hate giving bad news and 2. I dislike reading in front on people). For me it wasn’t that bad of a day, honestly I enjoyed it because I got some alone time while waiting and got to read and I love listening to other people talk.
I was foreman on a jury for a drunk driving case. I didn't want to be foreman, but no one else was stepping up, so I raised my hand and said "I'll do it." It wasn't as simple a case as it would seem, but we did end up finding him guilty and fined him $250.
This episode is hilarious (and insightful) ***** "I went super peppermint patty up on 114." LOL Oddly, I also fear reading in public. I'm happy to talk in front of a big group of people - in fact I love it; it gives me a high. But reading something tends to rattle me.
I was called to jury duty and forgot the letter that was sent in the mail with my # on it. Let's just say the guard wasn't very happy with me. I do believe it is one of our duties to serve.
QOTD: I have no ever had to do jury duty, but I want to try it at least once. Everyone says that it's boring and annoying, but I want to see what it's all about at least once.
#QOTD the last time I actually got summoned was pre-iPhone era but I think the behavior is not all that different anyway. Instead of a roomful of people hunched over tiny screens, I sat in a roomful of people slouched around a TV watching Jerry Springer. It's one of those moments when I realized how few people create and grow. Most humans just want to consume. This was NOT a jury of my peers :)
#QOTD Good stuff, Gary. Haven't been asked to participate in jury duty yet (knock on wood). Gotta have D-Rock bring back this outro jam at #11:30!! #JabJabRightHook
#qotd I had jury duty two weeks ago. About 200 of us got called in and 100 of us showed up, and it turns out it was a first degree murder case in the death of a child. The morning goes by and only one group of 14 gets called who are interviewed for 2 hours- then we broke for lunch. Luckily, I was the first name called in the second group, and out by 3pm, the other 70-ish people sat in that horrible room all day long, and since they had only picked 4 jurors from the entire day, they all had to come back for day 2. I felt so bad for them, but happy for me. I just got a check in the mail from the court yesterday for $20. lol. The judge was friendly and asked us all about the same 20-30 questions, and it was interesting to see who the lawyers picked to stay as jurors after hearing the answers to all of his questions.
Actually that's a great idea Gary (from the #QOTD), a business that teaches attorneys how to tell story (the most fun of jury duty is hearing the story)..Also, DRock, what are you using to shoot the #AskGaryVee Show?..
#QOTD I did jury duty for the first time last November. It was a case related to sexual abuse. The guy had confessed on camera, but still pleaded not guilty and his lawyer was playing the false confession card. No one bought it. He'll serve 24 years.
Once. I quickly figured out what the prosecutors didn't want (people who think like engineers or would try to solve the case on their own) I was quickly dismissed.
Yes , twice and both times were let go as I did speak the same languages of defendants. funny in the world if you know more is better , attorneys choose to let me go to not create drama later on so good for them and great for me, anyways you are awesome, keep doing what you do.
Great episode, ***** (as always!). Of course, by the end when you said you're doing a "Kickstarter-like thing" my ears perked up, 'cause I work for Indiegogo. I just checked to see if you launched anything, and I didn't see anything (yet), so I'd love to chat with you about doing what you're thinking of doing with Indiegogo (unless, of course, you're going to do it sans platform, which is pretty cool, too.) Let's chat!!
I like the longer shows like 113. #qotd I've been called to jury dury almost every year since turning 18. The worst was waiting all day, told to come back the next day, then let go after 20min of waiting.
GV, I really admire your strength and willingness to admit your fears. Really touched my heart to see you be so GENUINE. Thank you for letting us IN.
QOTD: I have been fortunate enough to have not been in jury duty yet. I haven't had my number called yet.
And great job squeezing out this video. If your dedication to this show hasn't been shown already, this solidifies it even further.

#QOTD 3 Times. Twice (including the most recent one last week) I called in and didn't have to go in. The third time I was sent home about 2 hours in.
no i never done jury.....but i feel you about fear reading in public.....great episode

Awesome show. Lovin it

I was excused from jury duty at the juror's interview because I had a relative who was killed by a drunk driver and the defendant was trying to get off from being prosecuted for drunk driving by going to trial.
Spent 3 days sitting around waiting to be called in, bored like nothing, then got told i was not needed.
Never had jury duty. Also have never worked or gone to school on my birthday. Christmas Baby perks!

#QOTD Sure did a "lady" glassed another lady at a bar. Pretty challenging, we had people in tears in the jury room! Emotional stuff.
Once. I quickly figured out what the prosecutors didn't want (people who think like engineers or would try to solve the case on their own) I was quickly dismissed.
#QOTD: Dodged the jury duty bullet twice. They picked 12 before they got to me both times.
Gary I hate to read in public to because I suck at reading because I'm dyslexic but it's what ever
#QOTD: nah, although I think I would enjoy it more than most.
You should start a section on your RUclips for instant classics.
Never had to partake in jury duty.
Yes , twice and both times were let go as I did speak the same languages of defendants. funny in the world if you know more is better , attorneys choose to let me go to not create drama later on so good for them and great for me, anyways you are awesome, keep doing what you do.
Made it all the way to selection then the defendant came out and I knew him as an acquaintance - his lawyer had me removed. :)
Have you ever done jury duty? No, I was asked once and forgot I booked a show the show the same day.
Somehow, I've avoided jury duty (jinxed!) But my wife has received it 2 or 3 times.
I've never had to do jury duty.
#QOTD: I'm about to coming this Monday. UGH.
I've been lucky enough not to have to do jury duty.
Great episode, ***** (as always!). Of course, by the end when you said you're doing a "Kickstarter-like thing" my ears perked up, 'cause I work for Indiegogo. I just checked to see if you launched anything, and I didn't see anything (yet), so I'd love to chat with you about doing what you're thinking of doing with Indiegogo (unless, of course, you're going to do it sans platform, which is pretty cool, too.)
Let's chat!!
Yes I feel you. Reading in public sucks. And yes death. I feel u
I like the longer shows like 113.
#qotd I've been called to jury dury almost every year since turning 18. The worst was waiting all day, told to come back the next day, then let go after 20min of waiting.
Gabriel Moreno I like the long shows too....
