Eh, not really. Both are great. If he comes back to show us more videos of the progress on the garage, these are great too, just as much as the small ones.
You can't make an induction heater from a regular microwave oven transformer. Induction heaters work with frequencies over dozens of kilohertz while the microwave transformer uses mains frequency that is 50/60 hz. Some newer microwaves use switching electronics to drive a high frequency transformer and I saw someone make an induction heater from the driver. Those microwaves are usually advertised as inverter
Induction heater is a lot more complicated than this contraption. And MOT is not suitable for it. It needs solid state high current switching driver, not a mains-powered transformer...
Well credit where its due. That Sam doorbell is a real mans present. I 100% approve. I recon this years secret santa could be the best thing about Christmas.
I watched Emily's video first. The 120v outlet voltage in the US means this ended up being a knife warmer that doesn't destroy blades, so less flashy but actually useful in the end.
As a Swiss I cannot believe that you call your UK-Plug "a proper plug". They bothered me my whole month I spent in England. Bulky, yet still wobbely in the socket. Why have they an integrated fuse? There's a perfectly good one in your fuse panel already! The wall sockets aren't recessed, which makes accidental touches from childs or liquids more likely. I havent seen a single cable that doesn't have a 90° bend in the plug. In thight spaces (like a plug board), this can be really annoying. In fairness, they are a Billion times better than the american plugs. But they barely qualify as "good" in in my opinion. If you'd like to see good sockets, then search for "Schuko, DE" or T13, T23, T15, T25, CH😉
1) The bayonet mount lightbulbs are B22. The screw mount is an E27. 2) In North America, E26 is known as the edison mount, and wikipedia says that the E26 and E27 are usually interchangeable.

A hot knife is great, but you know what would be even better? A bloody Garage update... it's been ages!
Why is this not listed?
Cutting edge technology
I see what you did there
@Cutting Edge Engineering
Yes, it's too hot to handle
CEE
I never had you down as a hot knife guy Colin. 👍😃
7:45 I love the disclaimer:
"Don't build this, if you're a knucklehead"
🤣🤣
Awesome! I love the melting destroyer box, such a nice break from the fodder here in the US 😲😱
I'm so happy there's RUclips with creators like you! Happy Holidays and Happy New Year Colin and everyone out there!
why was this unlisted? :(
0:41 You caught me off guard there!🤣
gard
Face came pretty fast and close to the knife there
In all seriousness Colin, I am at a point where I am going to end it end it all. This video snapped me out of it at the moment and reminded me of the joy of making something useless or narrow focus. Don't know why, at 35, I just found that all activities are boring. I can't find anything fun to do. Just tired with nothing to recharge my batteries. Just got to a point where I didn't want to wake up anymore. Need more reminders of what's fun. Thanks for this mate, Happy Christmas.
There's so much cool stuff to make! Have you seen Hyperspace Pirate?
I look forward to this every year. I love the art maker secret Santa too.
Warning, hot knives may cause shark suit dancing
not the first time Colin has hot knifed, guranteed 🤣
Hahaha, as a British engineer, this video makes me so happy! Leaving the UK plug on it to show the Americans what a real plug is brilliant!
“It will keep going until you answer the door or your house burns down”. I need to get up off the floor now, I may have peed a little from laughing too hard.
Love it !! Vintage Furze craziness !.. I like the Knife for Emilililey but blody hell.. that doorbell is fecking brilliant, musical, visual, what a bloody ripper
glad to see i wasnt the only one to remember hotornot lol. I love these secret santa videos. Was worried it wasnt happening this year.
I've loved the tunnel/secret garage videos, but I prefer this kind of 'smaller build' videos
Eh, not really. Both are great. If he comes back to show us more videos of the progress on the garage, these are great too, just as much as the small ones.
Agreed, the underground projects are fantastic but I am really looking forward to getting back to the single video projects.
using the transformer to make an induction heater would've worked too :)
yeah i know but i'm not as familar with the electronics and i've got enough on with the garage lol, barely ad time for this really haha
It needs solid state high current switching driver, not a mains-powered transformer...
why did you unlist it?
Well credit where its due.
That Sam doorbell is a real mans present.
I 100% approve.
I recon this years secret santa could be the best thing about Christmas.
I watched Emily's video first. The 120v outlet voltage in the US means this ended up being a knife warmer that doesn't destroy blades, so less flashy but actually useful in the end.
Ahh the good ol' hot knife through hash
It works with flower to
Not the hot knives I remember
For my baking recipes, I often convert metric into gopher feet 😉
Good stuff. Probably already pointed out but the E on the bulbs is for Edison Screw type fitting.
I always presumed you were into hot knives...
Huh most of you missed the innuendo
FYI in regards to the knife heater look into induction heating you don’t burn out your blade as it’s not part of the conductive pathway
Best ASMR ever. Happy holidays for you and your family Colin!
Dude this had me laughing out so loud, a proper guy having fun 😂😂😂😂
Happy Christmass, thanks for all the entertainment this year
1) The bayonet mount lightbulbs are B22. The screw mount is an E27.
2) In North America, E26 is known as the edison mount, and wikipedia says that the E26 and E27 are usually interchangeable.
The 7/64ths gopher feet had my sides splitin 😂
This is crazy!! I worked with Emily when she was an engineering intern at my job. That was the first time I'd seen her wear her Iron Man suit she made. Crazy to see how much she's grown!
I really hope you have good ventilation in your shop with all the fumes made from these metals melting and smoking.. love your videos!
I love look mum no computer!! Did not expect this collab
Another very cool invention. Wishing your family a happy Christmas...🎄🤶
Oh man love Sam and you Both! Great seeing these!
Sam from 'look mum, no computer' was at EMF Camp a few years ago, played a set in the evening, really cool guy, really cool stuff.
Well done, now we all are dreaming about a collab with sam !
Love your content, thanks for the share!
The most common bulb around the world is the E26 (E for Edison, 26 for 26mm base diameter) Nearly every fixture in US homes fit E26 bulbs. So while yes, we'd rather measure things in football fields or cheeseburgers than anything metric, if it is hidden in a type of code, we don't mind metric. Merry Christmas Colin!
It concerns me ever so slightly that every thing Colin makes for the secret Santa is quite unhinged.
Everything he makes on this channel is unhinged. You should see his subscriber milestone celebrations.
