I think loops are almost always the best for trams and for metro sometimes may be loops sometimes point to point and very rarely hub & spoke. I think that because with loops you make bigger connection in small areas and point to point in metro, so that you can take that metro five stations before and doesn't take 25 minutes to do the entire loop back.
I see you've switched to the C:S2 orange + dark grey theme! It's an often overlooked setting, but I think it really helps to reduce the blinding whiteness of everything.
I think you should have some more inter bus connectivity. At least in my city busses share more often some stops so people can change busses more easily. I think you should try that. So they can also easier go into all directions :)😊 But still I loved this video ❤
In my currently favorite traffic simulation game, Simutrans, I mostly play with a pure Hub&Spoke setup, where each line has only two stations, terminals at either side. It helps as Simutrans has an option to have a vehicle run only if it reaches certain loading levels. For goods, I am setting it to 100 percent load at the source, for passengers, it's 50 percent, as passenger travel is usually bidirectional. I was experimenting with a similar setup in City Skylines 1, but it does not work as well.
Full disclosure, I have nto finished the eposide. At the 11:15 mark or so, when you are putting the train and bus,, it is the perfect opportunity t put a path over the road connecting the Bus station and the Train station. Thinking about the public transport in my metropolitan area in Germany (two major cities right next to each other), we have hub and spoke for busses, often with loops at the end of their routes. The trams are technically point to point, but the way they cross through both cities almost forms a loop. I guess it's more like a half circle and at certain hubs you can cross over. But there's also a tram loop that connects my neighbouring big city centre and main train station with the next big city over (that one is a 20 minute train ride away) and then loops to a smaller town that has a lot of shopping centres and stuff and then loops back to the neighbouring city. The busses only really cross over into the other cities on the night routes, when they take on some of the tram routes. There's also busses that connect from the hubs to outlying towns via motorway, A-roads or county level roads. And then obviously there's the train lines. The neighbouring city is a hub for the long-distance bullet trains and we also have a lot of regional trains going not only between the big city hubs, but also connecting to more mid-sized towns along the railway lines. I work in the neighbouring city and went to uni in the city one over (the one that is part of that tram loop) and I think that is working quite well for us. The car traffic between all these 3 major cities is so bad during rush hour, the few times I went to uni by car when someone took me along it took at least double the time it would have taken on public transport. The uni city is a tourist magnet so the locals actually prefer riding their bicycles, because public transport is often filled with tourists, but the trams and busses are also set up as a sort of hub and spoke or point to point system with that one connecting loop and the train station is also a stop for some of the long-range bullet trains, so it really is quite a convenient set up and I think a mix of these different types of transport systems is probably the best.
I always enjoy a Biffa transport episode! A point to point is basically a 1 dimensional loop anyway😉 Don't forget the Transportation tab allows you to unview parts of the map view such as roads and bus lines etc.
Ohh lovely a new Kettlebridge! 36:00 This is the only connection path that did not make a crossing over the busline. Not sure if sims will cross anyway, but I thought it might be worth mentioning; just in case. Much love from the Netherlands!
I would install pedestrian overpasses by the hubs. Otherwise you get traffic jams there. And I like the idea to have some pedestrian highways (and hopefully later bikes as well) 👍🏻
Hey Biffa! You should use the invisible pedestrian paths in your custom plaza areas to have the npcs to actually use those areas, just like the invisible roads for parking in dev mode
In fact if a person takes the bus, then the metro and then another bus, you count them 3 times in the total number of passengers. Previously, citizens did not make so many transshipments. On the other hand, before the remodeling of public transport, there was already a subway in the city, but it seems that the old capture shows that there were 4 passengers using it alone. I'm sure it wasn't working because of some bug. Therefore, I am not clear to what extent the improvement of public transport (from 43,000 to 123,000 passengers) has been so big. Great video as always ❤ thank you Have to confess real life hub and spoke bus routes is why i learnt to drive. My commute to work is only 4miles, when getting the bus, on winter days, i would have to get 3 different buses and it took 1.5hrs. Glad the citizens of Kettlebridge have a much better integrated transport system
I don't get, why so many people think loops were the best way to set up public transit. (Americans? No offense, but the US are not known for great public transit lol) Loops can be good around city centers (example: Ringbahn Berlin) or to connect small suburbs to a hub. The problem I have with them is they often don't bring you where you want to go. Even if there is a line the other way round. Besides that they are not very realistic for trams and metros. Maybe somewhere in the world they exist, i don't know. But it would be considerabely more expensive to construct a metro loop than a direct line. I think your public transport network should always be adapted to the geography of your town or city. How are the zones layed out? Where do people want to go? Where are points of interest? To sum it up: Loops can be great if they make sense. That means: always in both directions (people want to go one way and back without a gigantic detour!) and if they are linked with cross connections. My personal favorite is the spiderweb though. It gives many connections and you don't have to go through the city center if you don't need to. Just take the direct line or change at a little hub outside city center. But to be fair, this is more for larger cities.
Absolutely bloomin' brilliant. Only improvement I would make is to have key hubs next to areas of density... Particularly the towers on biffington springs island. Need as many of those to be using public rather than private transport to avoid the queues entering that area. Less parking needed then too! The new area from previous episode feels like it should be the luxury area.. maybe for tourists as well? Lots of key destinations there required.
32:31run two seprate lines that follow each other, the first bit you drawn, that can terminate where you had it then use the darker purple to go further on
Loved the improvements! But metro doesn’t need to pop out at a bus hub there could be cw and ccw bus stops nearby that give you a similar solution. 22:43 for reference
I would probably have added bus lines between all the bus station: either point to point or a line that loops through all of them. edit: it didn't look like you added any external bus connections to any of the stations
I think you could 'finish' the middle loop for the metro on the already existing tracklayout, instead of the 1 shuttle line, for even greater accessibility. great video again 😀
In CS1, I used my trains and metro to create a spiderweb-style network, with busses for local transport between residential/commercial/industry - usually point-to-point.
I love mass transit videos, it's one thing I Iove doing when I play. It takes time and it can sometimes hurt your brain, but when all is done and everything is used and runs smoothly, it's so satisfying ! 😅 Great job Biffa 😊
My system would be a rapid transit (train / metro) similar to yours, combined with a multiple hub-and-spoke-systems for the busses in which metro (or train) stations serve as mini-hubs. To allow shorter bus lines, I would add the two 30:20 mentioned that you did not build - just to connect to the more local busses. 29:55 The mini-hub system would also mean providing the most of the coverage of these bus lines from other hubs. Of course bus spokes from different mini-hubs could touch each other to allow transfers. Speaking of transfers: 49:48 The tram did not really move forward. That's because of the quay wall position that causes ~50% of the area of effect in the river. But you might consider moving bus stops (perhaps also extending bus lines for that) and tram stops to create transfer stops with short walking distances.
Loved the video, this was an amazing improvement towards the transportation, but I think you might need to look into the train network, you have 1 line coming down from the airport, it could run more and split them out towards the other stations.
the hong kong MTR (mass transit (metro) railway) is a great example of an extremely functional and efficient metro system - it uses predominantly point-to-point with a couple super-hubs at admiralty for instance
I think it's going to work much better!! The less confusing the system the better and it's much more organized this way. I love metro. I also love trams, but they can be a bit of a traffic inhibiter also. I think you made some really good choices!! 🤩
Great video again Biffa! I think it would be cool to see some higher density around the new public transport stops and hubs, especially metro and train stations
For what it's worth, my opinion is that the metro loop around Biffington Springs would better be replaced by a single line that runs under the main road across the island, and connects to Tealand Downs. The island just doesn't seem big enough to warrant a metro loop in my mind... two or three stops along the main road would be sufficient, using buses to connect them to the surrounding suburbs and to the existing tram loop...
Grand Bridge. You need an area called Grand Bridge. People visit San Francisco for the Golden Gate Bridge. Ironbridge in the UK is named after its bridge. Big up the bridge, even if it's just naming an area after it.
I'd love to see you pushing the city's public transport to the limit, see how much you can get people to use it. This is the game dev company that built Cities in Motion after all. And I'd love to see if you can get car use down as low as possible.
I could not stop laughing at the fact that the Biffington Tealand “Express” meandered aimlessly through residential and industrial areas for 27 km and 24 stops
I think most of your struggles with Subway lines are that you're not swapping to 'underground' camera mode while trying to find & manage the lines? There's a button for above/below ground view in the bottom right while makes adding & dealing with the subway lines much easier to see
I have two lines of alternating loops using train stations, and then from each train station, has a subway which has a loop around each of the towns they are in. Super efficient
You might want to add some elevated pedestrian paths where the metro station and bus hubs are on opposite sides of the road (where space allows it) to help unjam some of those roads. Other than that some nice improvements.
Always a good night when you see biffa come up I also started a youtube channel focusing on American truck simulator and racing games hope to be as good as you one day
Your metro lines are the loops that should connect the ends of the bus routes. This way your passengers are not forced to go through the bus station when they want to drive next door
The yellow bus lines just loops near technical University without any stops, you can remove the looping and add ped path to stop in one way road, which is very near
You should connect the two small subway lines into one line from Palmer Springs to Spencer Croft instead of having both dead-end in Biffington Springs.
love the example of real city management ask a vote from the residence on what they would like to see added then ignore the results and do something elaborate that costs more
Personally with the buses I have the station itself closer to the main city to use as a hub & everyone can catch a route to there & then to somewhere else. But I did notice an issue I was having was the people. They can cause quite an issue with traffic for the buses getting in & out so I positioned it so that the people would walk out, then back behind the building to get to the city so that the buses going in at the front didn't have to deal with people walking around everywhere. Even with the mod to give crossings pedestrian times to cross, just can't do that for the actual entrances to buses have to try get through the people walking across but if where they walk is behind them they don't tend to cross in front of the entrance but just go out the sides then back behind the building.
The delay usually happens after 60k population. I have played with both vanilla and mods even with the lowest setting and the best optimization, still the same. currently using 3090 TI, Ryzen 9 with 128gb ram
i would connect the two express metro lines together to use the metro trains better and make less transfers necessary. i would also connect more train lines together to make them longer, like you did in the video. and the same with some bus lines, to create point to point lines that pass through the hubs.
Transit should have a suitability measurement, like RICO. Streets where there is transit demand should be green, where demand is low or even negative (resisted, NIMBY) should be red. If you build stations there, they will behave (at least initially) accordingly. As time goes by, the transit demand might change - providing transit at some point should usually suppress the demand for more transit! There's such a thing as "sufficiently served" or even "overserved" areas.
26:00 Yeah, I noticed vehicles don't get assigned until... maybe they have to wait to hire/assign drivers before a vehicle is released. I've also noticed with low population (I have yet to reach 10k population) it takes longer to get drivers/vehicles assigned. Another thing I have also noticed is drivers (maybe workers in general) seem to be able to quit their jobs. Sometimes after a line has been running for a while, that not enough vehicles warning will come on. I don't think it's a bug though. Between vehicles having to return for maintenance, drivers quitting their jobs, depot stock, and breakdowns, there are many permutations of events that should cause a depot to not be able to release a vehicle at times, even if there are vehicles in the depot.
you can create a bus line without merging it into the bus station. so like the university connect you can just have a bus stop across the river but the people will take one bus from the blue line than hop onto the next bus. since they dont have to be connected to the bus hub, it could even unlock more possibilities for ya
It''s a bit bizarre seeing a metro station right next to agriculture fields but it's not unheard of , especially in some ex soviet countries you have metro stops at very low density or sometimes even almost abandoned looking places
Great episode as always. The yellow line on spencer croft looks a bit odd to me. Can't you connect a bus lane between the tech uni and the other side of the cupplet with a stop in the middle instead of having two small spots out of the cupplet? I would also connect both sides of the city with one bus passing through Frostea forrestry for extra connection. The areas around the new Bus Hub on tealands down and spencer train station could do with some residential I think
Biffa, maybe introduce a feature like park and ride? (I.e a 3-5 bus hubs around the centre, with straight direct routes into a main hub/city centre. There's usually loads of parking around them.
Great work! But something i have noticed is that there is a lack of pedestrian bridges and tunnels. And this is quite common among CS2 youtubers. Doesnt it work in the game? With all that traffic, and specially near the stations and hubs it would be a disaster bound to happen irl.
Hey, i were thinking about elevated roads. But just for commercial transport, services or a way through a city without getting in a traffic. If it will work, it make less traffic on a main busy roads, so you will recive less troubles with jams. Guess so
Great! It'll be interesting if you could show how reducing the amount of vehicles on the lower used routes effects the usage in a future video - it makes sense that a line with 8% usage if you reduce vehicles on that line the usage per vehicle increases, but I'm sure there's some wonky skylines magic going on that will give unexpected results
Love your videos. Cant wait for game to be presentable enough so that you would move from small towns to building big cities. Did you test your current PC limit in regards to population cap? If so how big is it atm?
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines This game has alot of replayability potential as population cap will rise with hardware over the years. Current map can house many mills in my estimation. Did fun run with no mass transit and 7 lanes one way roads and high density setups. Was surprised to see how well it runs. No mods.
QOL change that needs to be a thing when setting up transport stops. Left click to place, Right click to Remove. Another would be, when we drag a line to the edge of the road, a popup to select what kind of stop to place would be amazing. Having to bulldoze separately and/or place stops while making lines is such a clunky PITA. Another QOL improvement I'd love is when opening a line view from the overview, closing that window should take you back, or it should open OVER the overview window so when you close it you can quickly view another line. And am I missing something, is there no way to see where people are going like in CS1 where it would show the route of everyone using that bit of road? How can I find out where bus routes are needed?
Just don't ever copy Peterborough for your public transport! Be good if future maps have things like Roman Roads, Bridleways, Public rights of way, Hadrian's Wall, conservation areas, etc to create extra planning problems. P.s i Think 'Sycamore's Rest' would be a nice name for a park heritage area and a nice little nod to Britain's favourite Tree. (rip Tree).
I suck at designing cities, so most of mine are just simple grids. For example in a district which have 11x11 roads I setup my bus transport with stations on either side of the district and then I run lines East to West along the odd numbered roads, e.g. If there are 11 roads I have 6 lines. Then I two loops North to South running on roads 2 & 4 and 8 & 10. Bus stops every second block. This keeps the area running quite smoothly when I have residential, commercial, and offices together close by. For any transport from one district to another, or to get to the other side of the district quickly, I run metros and have them popup next to the stations.
CS1 In saw people run metro north-south and buses east-west with stops close with the thought passengers could get off one, straight to the other and get to destinations.

I normally use Hub & Spoke for my metro system, then Point-to-point with my trains and then a mix of Point-to-point or loops for my busses and trams.
I don't get, why so many people think loops were the best way to set up public transit. (Americans? No offense, but the US are not known for great public transit lol)
Loops can be good around city centers (example: Ringbahn Berlin) or to connect small suburbs to a hub.
I am practically obsessed with trams. I love trams because they practically steal space that couldve otherwise been used by cars
I love this Kettlebridge videos!🤩🤩
I'm so glad!
Loved this 28:40. Especially in combination with the external loop with the trolly/tram
Quick point, I believe a bus stop is missing at 37:56. Apart from that, I love the videos Biffa, keep up the entertaining and fascinating work
Thanks 👍 😊
On the yellow line yeah. By the tech university, is what I saw missing.
I would probably have added bus lines between all the bus station: either point to point or a line that loops through all of them.
edit: it didn't look like you added any external bus connections to any of the stations
I'm using trains for that at the mo 👍
I think you could 'finish' the middle loop for the metro on the already existing tracklayout, instead of the 1 shuttle line, for even greater accessibility. great video again 😀
In CS1, I used my trains and metro to create a spiderweb-style network, with busses for local transport between residential/commercial/industry - usually point-to-point.
I love mass transit videos, it's one thing I Iove doing when I play. It takes time and it can sometimes hurt your brain, but when all is done and everything is used and runs smoothly, it's so satisfying ! 😅
Great job Biffa 😊
Gotta love a new biffa vid on sunday night, much love from Australia
So much fun seeing comments from around the Globe on The Biffa's posts. Greetings from, literally, the opposite side of the Earth.
Awesome improvement for the citizens in the city. Now they can easily buy tea on the other side of the city 😊
Yes indeed! 😁
A really good one today. Clinical transit setups make for functional cities. Learned a lot today
10:21 I propose Tea Bag for the shape in aerial view, or Bag's End
Oh man, having a mod to have an overlay to draw bus lines on would be great :D What a great idea to plan your transport lines, I love it
The yellow bus lines just loops near technical University without any stops, you can remove the looping and add ped path to stop in one way road, which is very near
Heya Biffa! Has anyone ever said "I love you for releasing videos on Sundays" to you? :)
They have now ☺️
You should connect the two small subway lines into one line from Palmer Springs to Spencer Croft instead of having both dead-end in Biffington Springs.
I LOVE transport episodes…. You and CPP are the best at it
Nice upgrade. But since the buses stroll around living places i would transform them to electric busses to reduce the noise
😳 Friday and Sunday Biffas! The world has turned upside down! 🌎 😆
I'm glad the ridiculous bus lines are getting sorted.
love the example of real city management
ask a vote from the residence on what they would like to see added
then ignore the results and do something elaborate that costs more
Personally with the buses I have the station itself closer to the main city to use as a hub & everyone can catch a route to there & then to somewhere else.
44 minutes
Great video as always, thank you for the entertainment!
Glad you enjoyed it! 😁👍
i would connect the two express metro lines together to use the metro trains better and make less transfers necessary. i would also connect more train lines together to make them longer, like you did in the video. and the same with some bus lines, to create point to point lines that pass through the hubs.

Yeah, I noticed vehicles don't get assigned until... maybe they have to wait to hire/assign drivers before a vehicle is released.
I was able to create a 100k city with 86% traffic flow because of public transport. Public transport is vital to city health in the game.
I would've done the damned railyard differently ;) Loving the series keep it going :)
you can create a bus line without merging it into the bus station. so like the university connect you can just have a bus stop across the river but the people will take one bus from the blue line than hop onto the next bus. since they dont have to be connected to the bus hub, it could even unlock more possibilities for ya
It''s a bit bizarre seeing a metro station right next to agriculture fields but it's not unheard of , especially in some ex soviet countries you have metro stops at very low density or sometimes even almost abandoned looking places
Excellent episode! Sometimes to fix it, ya just gotta remove the old entirely. 👍👍👍
The map drawing section was awesome, loved the new idea to the video
Awesome, thank you!
Tram = intersecting lines.
Bus = loops with bus station
Subway = hub and spoke
One advert I want to see in Kettlebridge is...
YORKSHIRE TEA! 🍵🍵🍵🍵🍵🍵
Great work! But something i have noticed is that there is a lack of pedestrian bridges and tunnels. And this is quite common among CS2 youtubers. Doesnt it work in the game?
With all that traffic, and specially near the stations and hubs it would be a disaster bound to happen irl.
It would be awesome if we can see some real life inspiration like landmarks or bus stations!!
Hey, i were thinking about elevated roads. But just for commercial transport, services or a way through a city without getting in a traffic. If it will work, it make less traffic on a main busy roads, so you will recive less troubles with jams. Guess so
🤔
No. You're correct. I use the percentage to lower vehicles. The percentage then climbs. So you know which one maybe has too many vehicles.
Love your videos. Cant wait for game to be presentable enough so that you would move from small towns to building big cities. Did you test your current PC limit in regards to population cap? If so how big is it atm?
I can run a 1 million city. Slowly but it runs!
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines curious what are you pc specs
@@BiffaPlaysCitiesSkylines
This game has alot of replayability potential as population cap will rise with hardware over the years.
At around 11 minutes the Street is Named Grove Street and you added a Roundabout there!
This was a joy to wake up to on Sunday morning. 😀 Thanks Biffa!
You're welcome 😊
Great video like usual, but you do have an underground mode when tinkering with the metro.
Happy day for me. I thought "jumpy game" was gone for good.
Week Up The Great Work Biffa!
I appreciate all that hard work you put into your videos.
Many thanks :-)
I would add more footpaths for people to walk on near the metros
To everyone seeing this. Has been mentioned but there is an 'underground' toggle when placing the metro lines.
CS1 In saw people run metro north-south and buses east-west with stops close with the thought passengers could get off one, straight to the other and get to destinations.
