Connie Francis went on many USO tours, including to Vietnam. She said that "visiting and entertaining the troops in Vietnam was my most rewarding experience". Returning from Vietnam in the Christmas of 1967, she made hundreds of phone calls to the families of servicemen. She also toured Vietnam in the spring of 1968. In 1966 she recorded a promotional record for the army: "A Nurse in the US Army" (MGM Records # 13550) - see the link above.
The track "A Letter From a Soldier (Dear Mama)" (MGM Records # MGM 1320) was a heartfelt letter, exchanged between a soldier and his mother, as narrated by the sister. Billboard reported on the song, on 25 June 1966: "Slow building, dramatic lyric ballad is given a warm, emotional reading by Miss Francis for a chart-topping entry". It was arranged and conducted by Larry Wilcox, and recorded on 31 May 1966 in New York.
"Mama just got a letter from Johnny
My brother in Vietnam...
Dear mama, as I lie here in far old Vietnam
I find that I'm thinking of you...
Now I know...how much you mean to me" Видеоклипы
I cry ever time i play this song. I was in the navy from 1962 to 1966. Lost alot of my buddies over there.

All those "soldier songs" never fails to brought tears into my eyes everytime I hear them

Might just be the finest Connie Francis song ever. Always makes me think of my childhood friend Raymond Schopman. K.I.A. March 18, 1968 Tet Offensive.

Zita kan rigtig godt lide denne sang, det er fra min ungdom
Airton
Could you please put the whole letter
thank you
Connie's hit making career was over by this time and her support for the war in Vietnam was the nail in the coffin.
Most of the young men sent there were conscripts- so much for freedom. They died and killed for an unjust cause that lost. Connie had a beautiful voice. Let's remember her for it, not her being confined in numerous mental institutions.
By the mid sixties she was reduced to releasing tear jerkers about Mama and brave soldiers. It's a shame as she was talented and still beautiful. Needless to say, this song was a complete flop on the charts. I love Connie Francis dearly but not this song. It's such a pleasure to hear her beautiful voice and see her appear always looking top notch!

I am proud to say that I burned my draft card during the Vietnam war.
